Chapter 71: Land of the Undefeated [4]

Aegon looked puzzled, staring at the ground, he wondered in his heart but couldn’t get to a solid conclusion.

Then, he raised his head, his gaze on the administrator, who wasn’t done talking.

"During my research, I had gone through a lot of great lengths to get my specimens; going through ups and downs, wasting, and retrieving more specimens, yet, I couldn’t find anything."

"You humans refused to speak, none of you knew anything."

"I could only get so much, and every single one of them said the same thing over and over again."

"It was annoying, I couldn’t just let my best work go unfinished."

At this moment, the administrator’s voice began to sound sad.

He even used his hand to clean his face as if he was going to cry.

Then, he created a small cloth from thin air and used it to clean his nose.

"I had to make sure his highness got the truth he wanted. To expand his territory."

"And after a lot of work, I became close, very close to breakthrough."

"Then you showed up."

Saying this, the administrator’s gaze turned cold as he stared at Aegon directly in the eyes.

"You!"

He pointed at Aegon, his voice getting louder by the second.

"You came and started destroying things. Hold on, what am I saying?"

He moved his staff to his other hand, and the clothes to the hand that once held the staff.

"You didn’t only destroy, but erased some of my creations."

"Even after all the traps and obstacles I sent to show you, you still came out somehow. I don’t know what kind of power you possess, but you are definitely a threat who shouldn’t pass."

At the moment, the sound of his voice reduced, while he composed himself, trying not to go over head.

"Congrats, you have brought me out of my research lab. I don’t usually get out except when it is a call from his highness."

"So, feel honored as I have graced you with my presence. And since I’m here, you shall not go unpunished."

While the administrator was speaking and complaining, Aegon had his hands folded, listening.

He didn’t utter a single word, or feel bothered by the words of the old man before him.

He simply stayed calm, unfazed, fully certain that he was going to pass, and all the administrator was saying was just whining.

The administrator saw this nonchalant attitude portrayed by Aegon and felt very angered by such.

However, he composed himself and moved around Aegon, in his magic carpet.

"I must say... It has been a while since I spoke to someone who actually listened to me."

The administrator spoke out, moving over the area in which Aegon was standing.

"But it is too bad that we met in these conditions. I can’t allow you to pass, but I can at least let you go away freely."

The words of the administrator sound unreal.

Wasn’t he here to kill Aegon?

Why was he giving him a pass to go?

Aegon thought all these but there was no way he could prove if the administrator was speaking the truth or not.

The thing is, unlike the brainless monsters who were attacking Aegon, the administrator was not of that league.

He was a man of good status and passionate about his work and who he served.

At first, when he arrived, he intended on killing Aegon, but because Aegon had listened to him and even asked questions.

He felt like there was no reason to kill him. He was a man of good heart, yet wasn’t to be underestimated.

Aegon, hearing these words spoke out with a cold expression;

"And why would I do that? I have come a long way, so why would I go back now?"

He moved his neck, his head up, eyes following every movement of the administrator.

"You are holding my friends and I have to get them back, so I’m sorry I’d have to decline your offer."

Hearing this, the administrator felt betrayed, his eyes almost flowing with tears.

"I see. So that’s your decision."

"I was already beginning to like you lad, but I can’t go against the will of his highness, therefore, you shall face the consequences of your actions."

He moved to the front of Aegon, his eyes cold but dripping with tears.

He raised his right hand high up, which held his staff, then he began swirling it.

At that moment, dark clouds began forming above, in the middle of both the administrator and Aegon.

They grew bigger and made the area in which they were standing darker.

"While still rotating his staff, the administrator looked down at Aegon, and spoke.

"Because you have gained my respect, lad. I will not insult you any longer. So I give you my greatest creation ever..."

The cloud grew stronger and lightning began striking all around, thunder echoing throughout the entire area.

Aegon’s head was raised, looking at the dark cloud as it was forming.

And just when the cloud was already fully grown and filled with a lot of lightning and thunder,

a dark figure suddenly dropped down to the ground; creating a cloud of dust from their fall.

The figure landed on the ground, their impact creating a sound like a whole lot of metal jammed together.

Aegon’s eyes followed the fall but his view was blocked by the cloud of dust that was created.

After the fall, the administrator spoke, saying.

"Behold, the one who would send you to the end of grimharrow. The War Maiden, knight of Cancer."

At this very moment, the cloud above had cleared up, giving way for the blood moon to shine clearly on the new figure, rising.

The knight stood to her feet, her shadowy figure standing cloaked in armor as black as a fresh grave, forged from obsidian that seems to drink all the surrounding light.

Her skin, pale as death, a stark contrast to the deep gloom of her gear.

Over her plate, a tattered, heavy hood hid her face, leaving only her eyes; two voids of absolute chilling black, to stare out with a soulless, hateful gaze.

The air around her feels thick and cold, a heavy, dead presence that promises only misery and an end to all light.

Aegon, gulped.

The blood moon hangs in the abyssal sky behind her, casting a hateful, crimson stain across her entire form.

The red light didn’t just illuminate but rather turned the shadows of her armor into deep pools of clotted color, making the metal look as if it’s slick with fresh gore.

The light highlights every sharp edge and dark gap, turning her into a terrifying phantom under the baleful moon.

Tucked into her belt is a jagged, heavy sword hanging ready for violence, its dark blade reflecting the red light of the moon.

Behind her shoulder is a sturdy bow and a bundle of sharp arrows, showing she can strike from the shadows or up close.

"Isn’t she beautiful?!"

The administrator asked, his lips curved up in a blissful smile for his creation.

"She is one of a kind, the only piece that took me over a decade to perfect, my masterpiece!"

Aegon saw cancer, the dark maiden, standing and waiting for the order, her gaze fixed at him.

’Wow.’

The administrator looked at his wrist and his expression suddenly changed, while the words left his lips.

"Oh, it looks like my time is running out. Have fun and try to keep yourself alive, if you can."

The carpet moved to the back of cancer, taking the administrator along with it, then he lowered his head; his lips at her ear and said.

"Keep him away from the castle dear, and kill him if you must."

After he had said this, he moved back, away from her and gave a certain gaze at Aegon, then sped away to the top of the castle,

leaving Aegon and cancer to face each other.
