Chapter 72: Land of the Undefeated [5]

’Is he serious? He just left.’

The gaze of Aegon followed the administrator as he moved on his carpet to the castle and after he had reached the castle wall, he vanished.

’Tch, old man.’

Aegon brought his head down facing Cancer, his hands unfolded as her void eyes were staring deep within him.

It was as if she was staring into his soul. However, even with this gaze, he looked unfazed, after all he had dealt with way worse.

’I was hoping that the old man would stay, and I could fight him then. But who would have thought he had this kind of warrior up his sleeves." Aegon thought in his heart.

’He also said something about her being his perfect masterpiece; worked on her for over a decade? Is she even human?’

When he was talking to the administrator, he had noticed that the old man, although had the appearance of a human, continued to refer to the awakeners as humans.

"I’m guessing he’s not human. It was hard to detect, but I did see his ears were pointy. He had a pointed ear like an elf but he seemed short to me, and with that physique, probably a dwarf.’

While thinking, his gaze was still on Cancer; she had not moved since the administrator left even though he had spoken to her before he left.

"Is she human? He said he had only encountered humans, that is, the awakeners, and was conducting research on them; so I’m guessing she is not human, based on the time difference.’

Aegon placed his hand on his chin as he thought, looking at her, he wondered why she had not moved since.

And also why she was called the perfect masterpiece.

"Looks like you will not move until I do, isn’t that right?"

The words left his lip after he placed his hand down, away from his chin, then he took a single step to his left, away from where Cancer was standing; trying to avoid her.

However, before he could even take the second step, Cancer dashed with an incredible speed towards him, and Aegon sensea were alerted.

Her hands moved forward in an attempt to get a hold of him, but, Aegon seeing this quickly moved to his right dodging. However, that didn’t mean he had escaped.

Cancer void eyes followed his swift movement and her body turned and moved to his direction, her hands still out for a grab.

At that moment, the space between her and Aegon was very small.

It was impossible for her to miss this time as the tip of her fingers had already reached his cloth.

Seeing this, Aegon moved one leg backward, bending his whole body low so she doesn’t have the opportunity to grab him, and when she saw his movement, she moved forward for a better take.

But at this moment, Aegon’s lips cured up as if he had planned this moment.

Since her hands were stretched out, Aegon bent his head under her, moved under the space of her hand, twisted his body, then came out behind her.

Cancer had seen this swift and calculated move of his, and how he had reacted in time.

But she, however, couldn’t. Her metal armor prevented her from being able to move so swiftly and agile, just like he did.

Aegon was now behind her, and jumped a couple steps backwards just in case. He wiped his head.

"Swoosh. She is a tough one. I think I underestimated her. If not for that moment when I saw how her armor collided with each other; preventing her from making her desired move, I wouldn’t have escaped."

Cancer, who had almost lost her balance from grabbing only air, suddenly gained it back, and stood upright.

She stood upright and turned around to face Aegon, her eyes glaring dagger at him.

"Oh boy. I think she’s pissed."

The aura around her started flowing out, dark and sinister.

In that moment, her left arm held her left waist where the belt was. Then her right hand moved to the top of the sword tucked into the belt.

Cancer began drawing the sword out, while it made a scorching sound from its metal to the armor; then she pulled it out completely.

She held the blade, like a heavy piece of ice in her hand, covered from top to button in dark, twisted carvings that looked like frozen gems.

As she held it up, the silver metal seemed to suck the light out of the air, turning the blood-red moonlight into a deep, cold shadow along the steel.

The handle pressed against her palm with a cruel weight, its jagged crown and sharp, leafy patterns looking like they were grown from bone rather than metal.

Holding the weapon felt like holding a piece of death itself, a cursed tool that lived only to taste and leave nothing but silence behind.

Aegon saw the sword, how majestic and beautiful it was. Then, he realized, he did not have any weapon to use and fight, but only his hands; and knowing this, he clenched and raised both of his fists. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

He engulfed them in mana and was waiting for her move when he heard the sound of the system.

[Ding! New Quest Available!]

[Quest: Kill the War Maiden - Knight of Cancer!]

[Failure would lead to immediate death!]

[Possible Rewards: Unique Ability!]

Aegon stared at the system window before him and felt like he had not seen the system quest for a while, and for it to appear when he was about to face off against Cancer, meant that she was indeed a formidable threat.

"Knight of Cancer, just like what the old man had said."

His gaze moved to the name she was called in the quest, which was the same as what the administrator had called her.

Then he wondered what kind of level of threat she was.

Every monsters had their levels of threat and Aegon was able to know which is which.

But Cancer wasn’t a monster, so he wondered what kind of rank she was in.

"I guess I would find out while exchanging blows."

As he said this, he raised his head, looking in her direction, however, she was no way to be found.

"She vanished?!"

In the blink of an eye, Cancer appeared at Aegon’s front, very close to him.

She had her hand in the air holding her sword tightly and then sung it to cut off his head.

’She’s fast!’

Aegon, seeing this, felt the speed in which she used was incredibly fast and he almost had no time to react, but the mana around his body suddenly surged up and he moved down, dodging her incoming blow.

While beneath her, at that exact second, he raised his mana-engulfed hand, and struck her stomach at a massive speed that seemed to break the sound barrier, sending her flying.

However, Cancer stood her ground, holding both of her hands in a high guard block to deflect the blow Aegon dealt her, while scorching her feet against the ground to reduce her speed.

"What, she withstood that?"

Aegon’s eyes were wide as he saw Cancer looking unharmed by the blow he delivered, it was as if she had not felt anything.

Cancer, looked at the back of her hands, steam coming out of it, but after a moment stopped.

She had her sword in her right hand and used her left to adjust the armor plate on her arms.

After doing this, she dusted the plates and then raised her eyes to Aegon, gazing at him with a puzzled expression that meant.

Was that supposed to hurt?
