Chapter 97: Facade

Without hesitation, Charlotte brought out a book from nowhere, it opened, and a bright light shone out of it. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

The light was displaying colors of the rainbow and all of a sudden changed to a star shape. The shape of the rainbow light moved evenly out of the book in her hand down to the assistant chest.

After the light landed, Charlotte left the book and it floated on the air without any support.

Charlotte took her hands and placed them on top of her assistant chest. The assistant was out cold. She collapsed, not dead.

While her hands were on the assistant’s chest, the star-shaped rainbow lights glowed tremendously from where started entering her body as if it was being absorbed.

After a while the light had completely entered her body, as no more trace of it was left.

Then men were still seated on their chairs and didn’t move. They only watched her Charlotte perform her healing.

The Chairman on the hand, because of where he was, couldn’t actually see what was going on, only feeling the moment.

Then, at that moment, the assistant rose, sitting upright.

"What happened?" She asked, looking confused.

Her head turned and saw the table with all the people on it, then her memories clicked. Suddenly, she picked up the clipboard and stood to her feet.

She composed herself by dragging her shirt down, and adjusting her suit to fit properly. Likewise the glasses on her head.

Charlotte, seeing this, had a smile on her face while she stood up to her feet. The book that was hovering in the air, closed and she placed it into nowhere.

The assistant cleared her throat and gave her appreciation, "Thank you!" She said to Charlotte who was already going back to her seat.

"No problem."

"_-_"

It had been two minutes since Charlotte came back to her seat, and no one since then had spoken.

The entire room was silent, the paintings on the ground, the air conditioner making it noise and everyone looking at everything around them.

While the silence was growing, Julius felt the urge to say something. He didn’t want to speak so as not to anger the chairman but because he had been asked a question earlier he felt there was a need to speak.

Even as he tried to speak, the words didn’t come out of this mouth, but the silence was already killing him.

He looked at George, and George gave him a weird expression now Julius feeling like everyone was actually waiting for him to speak.

At this moment, Julius knew he was actually meant to speak and since he hadn’t said anything yet it was getting very awkward..

Just as he was about to say something, the chairman uttered, "If you don’t know anything about your subordinate, I guess you speak to them and get this cleared up. If I hear that the characteristics guild is somehow involved in this mess you and your entire guild will face the consequences!"

The words of the chairman was heard openly and everyone in the room could be a witness it comes and the characteristics guild was involved.

Julius gulp upon hearing this words of the chairman but showed no expression of being frightened.

Putting his head down while looking at his fingers, he thought in his heart, ’Oh Reynold! What have you done now? I told you not to go far in this obsession of yours.’

Julius was worried because he knew Reynold very well. We are in the same rank but I was chosen to be a guild master instead of you, which made you to forwards this path. I just hope it doesn’t come to the worst.’

After thinking of this, Julius raised his gaze and the face thing that came to his view was George.

’Tch.’ He cursed., ’Insolent bastard. I will make him pay for putting me in this situation.’

The Chairman removed his attention from Julius and landed it on George, saying, "So? It says all? I suppose there is the last one, how they were able to escape... isn’t that right?"

George sat upright, "Yes, of course. Well..." he paused and everyone had their eyes on him, anticipating what he was about to say.

In his heart he thought, ’I truly thought I would escape this part, telling them about him but it looks like there’s no point in hiding it. Even if it decided to tell a lie, I’m sure the association would find the true story one way on the other so what’s the point?’

George leaned forward, then as if he was feeling uncomfortable he back, and began rher feeling comfortably he began, "There didn’t escape on their own but were saved by someone."

"Someone? Who was is?" The chairman asked.

George saw the curiosity in the chairman’s eyes and knew he had no other choice but to release everything, "By an awakener. They call him Aegon something,... I can’t remember his last name but that’s the person. He is supposed to be a newly awakened and entering the abyss ess the first time for him."

"But somehow he was able to solo every obstacle that came his way. Even after they got separated the first time, he still showed up when they were captured and fought all the monsters in the castle down to,..." he turned his gaze to Julius to say this, "to Reynold. He fought this person but turns out that he wasn’t actually there, but a hologram of himself."

Hearing all the words that’s George had just spoken, everyone felt a sudden rush of adrenaline coursing through them.

Whether it was the surprised awakener who recently awakened and solo an abyss raid, or rhe awakener who is part of them and likely linked to all these, they don’t know which their body was reacting to.

Perhaps both?

However, for the chairman, he knew the one that made him fell excited, so he uttered, "Aegon, that name sounds familiar," looking at the vice chairman he asked, "Am I right?"

The vice chairman was in a daze when he heard the question of the Chairman. The question bringing him out of his thoughts.

"Yes, I have heard him, and you have also seen him, remember? At the hall a couple days ago when you have the authority for the thieves that stole the relics do he found."

"There was an awakener there that caused a scene. The one whom you told me to find out who he was, the individual that used a return stone even though he was said to have a low talent?"

The chairman nodded, "Oh, I remember now. That strange young man. So, did you find anything on him?"

The vice chairman pointed at the assistant, calling for her.

"Do you get anything for him?" He asked.

"Yes I did," she replied.

Standing nervously, she opened her clipboard flipping through to the early pages before she stopped. "Yes, this is it. Aegon Zoldyck, age 18, no parents, no background story, has only one relation, a sister, but is proclaimed to have gone missing."

"It also says that he went into a coma on the first day of the catastrophic storm and woke up three years later, about a month ago. He only recently awakened after he woke up, at the same time his sister went missing and from there has been in the abyss ever since. He lived with his after he woke up from his coma but ever since she disappeared, he had never been to the house again. This was confirmed by the neighbors."

The assistant raised her glasses and continued "There’s actually nothing else about him even, he doesn’t have any about his early days before the storm. It was as if he just appeared one day and started living."

After the assistant had finished reading, she closed the clipboard and looked directly at the chairman.

"I knew it, this particular individual was special. Get me-" before the Chairman could continue his sentence, George interrupted him unexpectedly, saying with a bright smile.

"I’m actually thinking of inviting him to join my guild."
