70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman
Chapter 465: Disciplining the Little Brother
"You’ve made so much already? And this is just in Imperial City?" Xu Mumu widened her eyes as she looked at Xu Mumu.
"Don’t underestimate the people of Imperial City. The purchasing power here is really strong," Yin Yang said with a smile. Imperial City, after all, is the nation’s capital, and how many people living here are really so poor that they can’t even afford to eat?
Moreover, there are quite a few wealthy people who remain hidden.
"That’s true," Xu Mumu nodded. At least among the people she’s seen in Imperial City, Xu Mumu didn’t think any of them seemed very poor. She’d never heard of anyone in Imperial City going hungry either.
Seeing how Yin Yang was making money so easily, Xu Mumu felt a bit emotional. Yin Yang doesn’t appear later in the book; he’s probably developed his career abroad and never returned to the country. Otherwise, he might have been able to compete with Huo Qingze.
Xu Mumu wasn’t really sure how much Huo Qingze was earning, but the amount she received each month wasn’t small, so naturally the amount that went to Huo Qingze was even greater.
"How are you so amazing?" Xu Mumu said with some admiration.
"Not bad, I’ve been exposed to this stuff since I was little," Yin Yang said with a chuckle, having been enlightened with business strategies from a young age.
The two chatted for a while about company matters and then talked about the courtyard in Imperial City. After being away for a few days, Xu Mumu started to miss the two dogs. Every time she returned, the two dogs would wag their tails enthusiastically, looking clean and tidy after being washed by Mrs. Liu. Xu Mumu occasionally hugged them.
The sun was getting stronger, and more and more people gathered around the pavilion.
"It’s getting hot here. Let’s head back first and come out for a walk again in the evening," Yin Yang suggested with a slight frown as he glanced at the nearly blinding sun.
"Alright, let’s first go over there and see if Minglei and the others are back," Xu Mumu nodded in agreement; she wasn’t fond of the sun either.
As they stood up to leave, their spot was immediately taken by a couple. Xu Mumu’s lips twitched. The way the couple scrambled for the spot made it seem like many people were waiting to grab it, although their place wasn’t particularly good either; soon it would be fully exposed to the sun.
They arrived at Mingjiang Road, which was bustling with life. People were setting up wine tables outside, and there were many waiting to eat.
The two of them walked around the area but did not see Xu Minglei and the others, so they just headed back.
At home, the little guy was extremely happy and immediately rushed toward Xu Mumu.
"Sister, where have you been?" Fengfeng hugged Xu Mumu’s neck, overflowing with joy.
"Went out to play. When did you come back?" Xu Mumu asked with a smile.
"We’ve been back for a while. Sister, have some candy." Fengfeng dug out a piece of candy from his small pocket, ready to feed it to Xu Mumu.
It was the wedding candy from that family, wasn’t it? Xu Mumu shook her head, "Sister doesn’t need it, you can have it, Fengfeng." It was just plain malt candy, but the little guy really liked sweets.
"Sis, you wouldn’t believe it, the little one ran straight to the bride when grandpa and I weren’t looking. Luckily, the bride was easygoing and gave him wedding candy. Grandpa and I were scared to death," Xu Minglei said with a pout, feeling aggrieved. He had only let go of his hold for a moment, and the little rascal had disappeared in that instant.
Fortunately, the bride was the center of attention for everyone, so when a kid suddenly appeared in front of her, it naturally drew everyone’s focus.
Upon hearing his brother’s words, the little rascal buried his face into Xu Mumu’s embrace, unwilling to come out. His brother was mean, speaking badly of him.
"This rascal is really mischievous. I was initially planning to swat him with a feather duster, but even without hitting him, he started crying," said Madam Chen, feeling a headache coming on. She couldn’t bear to discipline the child once he cried.
"Fengfeng is being naughty, huh." Xu Mumu looked at the little rascal in her arms with speechless eyes, knowing he was now at least aware of being shy.
"Sister, eat candy, I want candy," Fengfeng said insistently, trying to distract from the matter.
"No more candy, where’s the candy? Give it to sister, sister wants to eat," Xu Mumu said calmly as she rummaged through his small pouch and took the remaining candy.
This kid is really a handful and needs a lesson; otherwise, he’ll be impossible to handle.
The candy was snatched, and by his favorite sister no less, causing the house to echo with the little rascal’s loud cries.
Xu Mumu handed the candy to Yin Yang, watching with a headache as the little rascal cried in distress.
"Fengfeng, if you continue crying, you won’t get any candy in the future," Xu Mumu placed the little rascal on the ground and crouched in front of him, face to face.
The little guy was still too young to understand complex reasons, so it was important to teach him good habits from an early age.
"Mine, candy," Fengfeng reached out, trying to grab the candy back from his brother-in-law’s hand, but being too short, he couldn’t reach it at all.
"Mumu, maybe give him one candy," Madam Chen suggested, feeling her heart ache watching her dear grandson cry so hard.
"No way, Grandma, you should go cook first, I’ll handle this," Xu Mumu said shaking her head. Upon hearing his grandma’s words, the little rascal cried even louder. This little rascal was quite crafty.
"Alright then, you teach him," Madam Chen glanced at her grandson, who was crying with tears streaming down, then at her granddaughter who had a serious look. Madam Chen decided to stay out of it. Truthfully, she hadn’t been very good at disciplining children herself; her own children hadn’t turned out very well.
Grandma left, and the little guy looked even more aggrieved, tears welling up as he looked pitifully at his sister.
"Fengfeng, stop crying, can you talk to sister?" Xu Mumu felt a tad soft-hearted, but she knew she needed to teach her little brother well, or he’d end up turning into a spoiled kid. Depending on her mother’s methods, it seemed hopeless; their mindset was more like, if the children were fed and grew up healthy, that was a success in itself.
The little rascal continued sobbing, turning his face away, refusing to speak to his big sister.
"Fengfeng, do you know there are child traffickers out there? If you’re not holding onto Grandpa, Grandma, or your brother, and someone takes you away, you won’t be able to see Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Grandma, or your brother and sister anymore. And you won’t have any candy either," Xu Mumu turned the little guy around. If he weren’t her own brother, she wouldn’t have bothered teaching him this way.
His sobbing softened a bit. He listened to his sister’s words and thought about not being able to see his family or eat candy; the thought darkened his world, something he didn’t want.
"Fengfeng, you’re a good kid, right? So you shouldn’t run off like that in the future, okay?" Xu Mumu picked up the little guy.
"Sister," the little guy said, snuggling against his sister, frightened by the picture his sister painted.
"From now on, you have to be obedient, understand? If Brother, Grandpa, or Grandma tell you not to do something, you shouldn’t do it," Xu Mumu said seriously, looking at the little guy.
