Chapter 435 - 434: Adaptation of an anomaly

Listening to Dr. Elias's words, everyone paused.

That anomaly?

Why… no, no, it was too dangerous.

They still hadn't found a permanent way to destroy it, and it kept evolving. They didn't want to place it near anomalies it could adapt to. That was dangerous and would only increase its power.

And Osiris…

One of the highest-level anomalies they had seen in years.

If they paired him with an entity that constantly adapted…

Wouldn't they create a monster?

"I understand your concerns, but so far, we don't know the extent of Osiris's powers. We are still in the dark. Or have you forgotten? We are studying Osiris. Now, placing an anomaly with near-limitless regeneration and

capable of adaptation with another which strenghts are unknown will push both to their limits," Dr. Elias said with a smile.

The senior researchers remained doubtful as they pondered his words.

Dr. Elias had a point, but…

"If it grows to that stage, who or what will contain it?" one of the senior researchers asked, his brows furrowed.

Hearing this, the others perked up.

Yes.

That was the real problem.

If it reached its limit, who or what could contain it?

Dr. Elias chuckled lightly when he heard the question.

"Isn't that why we are all here? We are studying them in real time, and with every new form and limit they reveal, we should be developing new containment methods," Dr. Elias replied.

The eyes of the senior researchers brightened.

This was true.

And it could work.

It was also a test.

Could the Foundation keep up with SCP-682's rapid evolution while simultaneously developing new methods to contain it?

Very quickly, the orders were passed, and SCP-682 was brought over. At the same time, a live broadcast was sent to other Sites so they could study both entities.

"The next anomaly is an adaptive-type entity. No matter the damage inflicted so far, it has always healed. We do not know the limit of its regeneration, so perhaps not atomic-level destruction… but if possible, we wish to see how far it can regenerate. Also, after each attack, it adapts," Dr. Elias explained through the microphone as his voice was transmitted to Osiris.

Inside the room, Void listened as he looked at the reptilian creature being brought in.

It was nearly seven meters long from head to tail, and the moment it entered, its eyes locked onto him.

"That's good. It interests me as well. I also wish to see how far it can go. But this room… I'm afraid it may not be able to withstand it," Void said as he walked toward the wall and pressed his palm against it.

Instantly, they felt a pulse spread through the Site like waves.

Then...

The room changed.

It transformed into a planet.

It was massive, almost the size of Jupiter, yet strangely enough, the Foundation could still observe every part of it as though it were still a normal room.

But its size…

Very quickly, the organization analyzed it and realized that Void had used spatial manipulation to expand and layer the room itself.

Not only that, but traces of time distortion and several unknown forms of energy were also detected within it.

Once again…

Osiris had shocked them.

"Kill you…" SCP-682 suddenly spoke as Void removed his palm from the wall and turned toward the reptile.

"Hmm…" Void walked toward SCP-682 and placed his palm on its head.

At first, considering SCP-682's aggressive nature, especially after Osiris arrived at the Site—they had expected it to attack immediately.

But it hadn't.

And now, Osiris was touching it…

Yet SCP-682 still didn't attack.

The moment Void touched it, he understood its pain.

Void nodded slowly.

"You don't need to say anything. I understand you. Come… let's enjoy ourselves," Void said as he stepped back.

"Tha…nk you…" SCP-682 replied.

"Hope you all recorded that," Dr. Elias said through the communication channel connected to the other Sites, a smile appearing on his face.

"Yes, we did. This is incredible," they responded as Dr. Elias nodded.

Inside the planet-sized battlefield, Osiris and the reptile finally began.

Void attacked with Rank 0 power.

Boom

Splat

SCP-682's body disintegrated instantly, leaving only its upper torso intact.

Behind it, a ravine thousands of kilometers long tore through the planet's surface.

Trees were obliterated.

Dust rose into the air.

The ground shattered apart.

Silence spread across both the battlefield and the Foundation Sites.

The only sound remaining was the wet writhing of flesh as SCP-682 slowly regenerated.

Muscles…

Bones…

Tendons…

Slowly reformed as seconds passed.

Everyone watched as its body regenerated once more.

But this time…

Stronger.

Then, a few minutes later

Bang!

Osiris punched again.

This time, SCP-682 only suffered minor injuries, which healed almost instantly.

Gasps spread across the observation rooms as Dr. Elias smiled. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"Fascinating…" Dr. Elias muttered.

But he wasn't the only one impressed.

Void himself was amused.

Was the adaptation truly this fast?

Although he wasn't using the full power of Rank 0, SCP-682's adaptation speed was monstrous.

Its regeneration was still somewhat slow, but as it grew stronger…

That speed would undoubtedly increase.

"ROARRR!"

The newly regenerated SCP-682 roared as it charged toward Void.

Bam!

Void casually slapped it aside, sending it crashing into the ground and creating a massive crater.

This time…

Void used the full power of Rank 0.

SCP-682 was severely injured.

But it still survived.

The adaptation was obvious.

On Void's first attack, SCP-682 had nearly been destroyed.

Now, even against a stronger attack, it was only heavily injured.

Both Dr. Elias and the senior researchers were deeply impressed.

The rate of adaptation and regeneration was astonishing.

After SCP-682 fully regenerated once more—

Void attacked again.

Bam! Boom! Bang!

With each attack, the damage inflicted became lower and lower.

SCP-682 was adapting at a terrifying speed.

"First phase complete. Record everything," Dr. Elias ordered as he watched Osiris finally stop attacking.

"The next attacks will become increasingly destructive. They might involve galaxies later," Void spoke.

Not only Dr. Elias, but the entire Foundation felt cold sweat drench their backs.

Was Osiris serious?

A galaxy being affected?

Could they even contain something like that?

Void slowly raised his arm, and everyone felt their heartbeat increase. Their hearts pounded violently.

Was Osiris finally getting serious?

Tension filled the air as they waited for some massive gathering of energy or a terrifying attack to form.

But Void merely flicked his finger.

For a moment, the built-up suspense vanished, replaced only by disbelief.

Just then

They saw SCP-682 split into two halves.

But not only that…

The entire planet, almost as large as Jupiter, was split apart as well.

Osiris had not been lying after all.

He had casually split an entire planet in half.

Blood surged out from SCP-682's body, but thankfully, the adaptation it had undergone from Void's earlier attacks had prepared it.

It immediately began regenerating.

One half of its body disintegrated completely, while the remaining half rapidly grew into a new body.

Gulp…

Someone nervously swallowed as they watched the scene in terror.

A whole planet had just been split apart…

Which was more horrifying?

The attack itself…

Or the fact that SCP-682 had survived it?
