Abyssal Sovereign: The Demon's Dominion
Chapter 438 - 437: What are Laws ?
"Right… what are Laws?" Void began as he spread his two palms. Space seemed to tremble, and they couldn't tell if it was an illusion, but…
Dr. Elias and the other senior researchers felt as though their souls were reacting to Osiris, as if they were being drawn to his palms.
At Void's palms, Laws formed like tiny orbs—from the Law of Creation to the Law of Nothingness. Each Law had a different color, and each produced a different effect in the surrounding environment.
Void spread them out as they floated behind him, filling the space.
"Laws can be said to be higher forms of elements. The common elements we know include wind, ice, fire, strength, speed, time, space, lightning, and others."
"Each of these so-called elements are derivatives of Laws and can be combined to form them again. They are interchangeable, but their effects are worlds apart."
"For example, one could wield the element of light and create an attack that only destroys a city. But with the Law of Light, not only can you destroy that city, but it would affect nearby cities as well. And the destruction would not leave rubble—nothing would remain."
"One can scale it down to atomic-level destruction and beyond."
"But not to forget, these so-called Laws can have various functions depending on the wielder. Returning to Light—its Law, which was used for destruction, can also be used for regeneration of injured limbs or healing, in simple terms. Light can also become the bane of certain creatures, giving an advantage in battle."
"It can also be used to increase speed, reaction time, and even directly alter one's atoms, rearranging them to make the body harder to hit or faster to respond."
"Instead of brain → nerves → body, it could become brain → body, skipping the nervous transmission process entirely."
Void paused as he noticed the monitors recording everything, while the researchers nodded and took notes.
Having been exposed to anomalies, their way of thinking had advanced significantly, and their acceptance of strange concepts had improved. Most of the researchers here were geniuses, making it far easier to explain such things compared to ordinary beings.
"Previously, I thought that to possess Laws, one had to start from a mortal body, break its limits, strengthen it enough to accept elements, then awaken elemental control before merging them into Laws."
"But after coming here, I've realized different races have different paths to power. A good example are the anomalies here. They can interact with higher levels of power than Laws, despite their bodies being far more fragile than mine."
"Of course, they are not human, so their path may not apply to you. But regardless, Laws and similar energies are constantly present across different universes even though it may simply take different forms."
Void finished as Dr. Elias spoke.
"Thank you for the enlightenment. But how does one actually break through mortal limits for humans? Or, since our universe is… unusual, can we harness powers similar to the anomalies?"
Void smiled upon hearing this.
"That is a good question. But as I said, your Omniverse—composed of multiple universes—is strange. Even I, with my knowledge, still fall short."
"Discovering your path to strength as humans depends on you."
Void finished as Dr. Elias frowned.
His thoughts spiraled, and the other researchers began muttering among themselves. It was not something they could instantly understand—it might take years, or even generations, to uncover the answers and the path forward.
But regardless…
Osiris had opened their eyes.
Void looked at the researchers, smiled faintly, then turned and appeared some distance away from SCP-682.
"So… have you decided?" Void asked softly.
SCP-682's voice echoed not only to Void, but also to the researchers still processing everything.
"I have…"
SCP-682 opened its jaws.
"I want to continue evolving."
The researchers were pulled back from their thoughts.
Although Osiris had given them a lead toward understanding Laws and the path forward for humanity, at this moment, the conclusion of this exchange was far more important.
They had a feeling this encounter itself might become key to understanding Laws and the future direction of humanity.
"That is a good choice," Void complimented as his entire aura shifted.
Space crumbled as the first layer was torn apart, revealing a darker layer beneath. But that was not all—the second layer had cracks as well, as if it could shatter at any moment.
Intense gales and spatial winds tore apart planets, while galaxies were destroyed one after another.
Across the remaining universe, cracks could be seen everywhere—a sign that with just one more push, this universe might collapse entirely.
This time, the next attack was a Quasi Rank 3 attack, which translated to the power of a universal-level entity. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
If SCP-682 could survive this attack and adapt to it, then it would be considered a universal-level entity. More importantly, it would begin interacting with Laws.
For the first time in its existence, it would be free to explore its home and escape the Foundation—at least until they could develop a way to contain it.
Orbs formed around Void, each carrying traces of Laws, as a terrifying energy pool was created. Matter, whether small or large, was drawn in, deconstructed, and converted into pure energy that fueled the size and power of the attack.
Worse still, all the orbs, each containing different traces of Laws were merged and compressed into a tiny marble-like sphere of energy. It pulsed with devastating shockwaves that shattered the second layer of space repeatedly.
The monitors flared at maximum threat level as all the researchers felt their hearts rise into their throats.
The importance of this moment had been amplified countless times. With Void explaining what Laws were, the Foundation might finally witness the birth of a creature capable of wielding and controlling them though not fully but enough to represent a massive breakthrough.
And so, they silently hoped SCP-682 could survive.
Void flicked the marble forward.
It moved slowly toward SCP-682.
So slowly that it felt like minutes had passed, while the distance between it and SCP-682 barely changed.
But they failed to realize that time itself had been heavily distorted—caught between constant motion and stillness. This made the attack appear slow, even though its true speed had already surpassed anything they could comprehend.
With their hearts in their throats, they watched as the marble finally made contact with SCP-682's scales.
And in that instant…
SCP-682 vanished from existence.
"…Is it… destroyed?" Dr. Elias gulped as he stared at the empty space.
