After Being Cheated On, I Became My Ex's Uncle's Pampered Sweetheart
Chapter 11: Mr. Lawson Is Waiting for You in the Car
Inside the hospital security office, Lana Chambers, Charlotte Vaughn, and Eve Vaughn all had disheveled hair and looked a complete mess.
Eve Vaughn thought, If security hadn’t arrived in time to break up the fight, I never would’ve let Charlotte Vaughn and Lana Chambers get the upper hand. I would’ve taken them down by now.
Lana Chambers and her daughter played the victim, shouting, "This isn’t the first time Eve Vaughn has gotten physical with us! How could you call yourselves a decent hospital with a patient’s family member like her? We’ll expose you tomorrow! I’d like to see who would dare come to you for treatment with a dangerous person who attacks at the slightest provocation, hanging around!"
Today, Eve Vaughn was getting a real lesson in what it meant to be unreasonable and what it meant to be shameless bullies!
"Ma’am, please calm down," a hospital staff member said placatingly. "This has nothing to do with our hospital. And besides, this patient’s family member has never attacked anyone before. Are you suggesting we kick her out? I’m afraid that wouldn’t be appropriate, would it?"
Lana Chambers roared, "What’s inappropriate about it? A person with violent tendencies like her—if she’s hitting people in your hospital today, she’ll be killing them tomorrow! Are you just going to ignore that? In that case, we’ll just call the police, check the surveillance footage, and see who started it!"
Trying to smooth things over, the staff member said to Eve Vaughn, "Miss, how about you apologize and get this lady’s forgiveness? After all, you getting into a big fight has already hurt our hospital. If they insist on pursuing this, the hospital may have no choice but to discharge your mother."
Eve Vaughn’s face fell, and she clenched her fists tightly.
Of course, she didn’t want to apologize. She hadn’t done anything wrong. It was Lana Chambers and Charlotte Vaughn who had provoked her first.
Besides, this was the most suitable hospital in Rivaster in terms of both technology and cost. It offered the best value for money.
If her mother were kicked out of this hospital, she probably wouldn’t be able to find a better one.
Charlotte Vaughn crossed her arms, looking smug and arrogant. "Eve Vaughn, you slapped my mother today, and you hit me last time. This time, slap yourself in the face ten times, and we’ll call it even!"
Eve Vaughn was so enraged that her eyes turned red, and her whole body trembled slightly.
She thought she would have to swallow this injustice. For her mother’s sake, she was willing to do anything.
But just then, the phone in the security office rang.
It was unclear what was said on the other end, but the head of security was bowing and scraping as he answered the phone.
When he hung up, Lana Chambers and Charlotte Vaughn were still waiting with keen anticipation for Eve Vaughn to slap her own face.
But the guard walked over and said, "Ladies, please leave our hospital immediately."
"What did you say?" Lana Chambers’s eye twitched. "Eve Vaughn hasn’t apologized or admitted she was wrong, and you’re telling us to leave? There’s no way it’s that easy!"
The guard said in a cold voice, "This came from higher-ups. From now on, both of your names will be permanently on our hospital’s blacklist. If you don’t leave right now, we’ll have to throw you out!"
Lana Chambers was completely blindsided by this reversal. Pointing at the guard, she said, "You lackey, throwing your weight around! Believe it or not, I’m going to expose all of you when I get out of here."
The security captain chuckled. "We also just received word that you two are about to be joined by marriage to the Lawson family, Rivaster’s top family. If you expose us, then we’ll have no choice but to post the footage of you acting like shrews, pulling hair, and screaming in public, for all the world to see."
Lana Chambers and Charlotte Vaughn were so furious they almost coughed up blood. They couldn’t for the life of them understand how things had taken such a sudden turn.
Eve Vaughn was stunned for a long moment, too. Why did she get the feeling that fate is secretly on her side? Even a situation like this could be turned around?
Lana Chambers and Charlotte Vaughn had no choice but to swallow their anger and leave resentfully.
As they left, they couldn’t resist throwing a final threat at Eve Vaughn. "You wretched girl, this isn’t over!"
Not long after, Mason Lawson’s assistant, Neil Kane, came in and said, "Miss Vaughn, everything has been taken care of. Mr. Lawson is waiting for you in his car."
"Assistant Kane?" Eve Vaughn asked in disbelief, "Don’t tell me... Was it Uncle who handled this?"
Neil Kane smiled. "Who else? People don’t meddle in others’ business these days. Not unless it’s for someone they know."
And just like that, Eve Vaughn was led to Mason Lawson’s car.
"Uncle..." Remembering how she had left without a word last time, Eve Vaughn felt ashamed. She said quietly, "Thank you. If it weren’t for you, I definitely would have been in a bad spot. But... why are you here?"
Mason Lawson frowned as he looked at the young woman’s messy hair. "I happened to be visiting a friend at this hospital and saw you being bullied. I just helped out since I was here."
Eve Vaughn was incredibly grateful. Her bright, dark eyes, shimmering with unshed tears, gazed at him like those of a small fawn.
Mason Lawson’s heart skipped a beat. He averted his gaze and said, "Going back to school? I’ll give you a ride."
"Oh, okay."
Eve Vaughn still hadn’t recovered from the frightening ordeal and was silent for the entire ride.
Just then, her phone rang. When she answered, it was a call from Keystone Law.
"Hello, Miss Vaughn, this is Mr. Spencer’s secretary. After a meeting with the other partners, and in light of your difficult financial situation, we can consider taking your case now and arranging for you to pay later."
The secretary found the whole thing ridiculous even as she spoke. A case worth twenty million, and it required a meeting with the other partners? Normally, the boss wouldn’t even glance at a case worth less than two billion.
But Eve Vaughn didn’t know about any of this, much less that the cases Jonah Spencer took on were typically valued in the hundreds of millions.
Filled with excitement, she looked at Mason Lawson pleadingly. "Uncle, Keystone Law is on the way to my school. Could you stop there for a moment?"
Mason Lawson nodded impassively. "Alright."
It was as if his rescuing her and now taking her to Keystone Law were all pure coincidence. It had nothing to do with any romantic feelings.
Eve Vaughn checked her reflection in the mirror again, smoothed down her hair, and carefully fixed her appearance.
Out of the corner of his eye, Mason Lawson watched the innocent and naive young woman beside him, lost in thought.
