After Being Cheated On, I Became My Ex's Uncle's Pampered Sweetheart
Chapter 12: Lawyer’s Letter Sent to the Vaughn Family
After dropping her off at Keystone Law, Mason Lawson drove away.
Meanwhile, in Jonah Spencer’s office, Eve Vaughn successfully signed the power of attorney.
"Miss Vaughn, I’ll file the case with the court as soon as possible. As for the legal letter, it will be sent to your family’s residence within the next couple of days."
Jonah Spencer didn’t bring up the matter of payment again, which made Eve Vaughn a little uneasy. She asked tentatively, "I really don’t have to pay anything up front? I should at least pay a deposit. Once I get the house, I’ll definitely pay the full legal fee."
Jonah Spencer hadn’t expected the young woman to be so naive. But her innocence wasn’t off-putting. He was just a little curious as to when Mason Lawson’s tastes changed.
Recalling Mason Lawson’s instructions, Jonah Spencer said gently, "Miss Vaughn, you don’t need to worry about the legal fees. Since I said you can pay after the case is closed, I won’t ask you to pay in advance."
"Then thank you so much, Lawyer Spencer."
Eve Vaughn used to think her life was terribly bitter. After her father passed away, she was exploited by her uncle’s family. But now, she suddenly felt that maybe her life wasn’t so bitter after all.
There are quite a few good people in the world, too.
For example, Mason Lawson had taken her home from the heavy rain. The anonymous benefactor who helped pay her mother’s medical bills. And now, Mr. Spencer, standing right in front of her.
When Eve Vaughn left the law firm, her mood had brightened considerably.
...
Although Lana Chambers and Charlotte Vaughn hadn’t gained any advantage at the hospital, Charlotte’s wedding to Julian Lawson was drawing closer, which still left Lana feeling more joy than worry.
A few days later, Charlotte Vaughn and Julian Lawson’s wedding photos were finished and delivered to the Vaughn residence. Lana Chambers gleefully admired the pictures of the handsome man and beautiful woman in the album.
She held her daughter’s hand, gazing at the photos, and said with satisfaction, "Our Charlotte and Julian are the perfect match. Charlotte, look at you, so beautiful! Right, Julian?"
Julian Lawson smiled and nodded. "You’re right, Auntie."
Just then, a maid walked in with a package. "Ma’am, this was just delivered. It says you or the master of the house needs to sign for it."
Lana Chambers beamed. "So many prominent families in Rivaster are celebrating happy occasions lately. This must be an invitation from one of the other ladies."
After all, with the Vaughn Family’s previous status, they would never have received invitations from Rivaster’s elite.
But now, they were about to be joined with the Lawson family by marriage. In the last two months alone, Lana Chambers had received more invitations than in all the past few years combined.
However, when Lana Chambers opened the package, she found a legal letter. Her face changed instantly as she stared at the contents in disbelief.
She can’t believe it! That damn girl, Eve Vaughn, actually dared to go through with this!
"Mom, what’s that?" Charlotte Vaughn snatched the paper from Lana Chambers’s hand as she spoke.
After reading the contents, her voice shot up an octave. "Oh my god, Eve Vaughn has gone too far! She... she’s actually trying to kick us out?"
Hearing the name Eve Vaughn, Julian Lawson’s expression flickered. He didn’t say a word, but he perked up his ears, listening intently to Lana Chambers and Charlotte Vaughn’s conversation.
For some reason, no matter how much he hated Eve Vaughn, he still found himself subconsciously paying attention to anything that concerned her.
Lana Chambers began to wail pitifully. "We really raised an ungrateful wretch! After her father died, if we hadn’t taken care of her for all these years and covered her mother’s medical expenses, how could she and her mother have possibly survived in a city like Rivaster?"
Charlotte Vaughn knew that Julian Lawson probably hadn’t forgotten Eve Vaughn.
To destroy Julian’s image of Eve, she chimed in with her mother, "Exactly! Mom treated her better than she treated me, but now she’s just casting us aside after we’re no longer useful. Julian, now that I think about it, it’s not surprising that Eve Vaughn was capable of abandoning you back then. This is her true nature!"
Julian Lawson’s face turned extremely grim, but he couldn’t find the words to refute her. He clenched his fists, suppressing the conflict and turmoil in his heart.
In the end, he left the Vaughn residence, using the excuse that he had something to take care of at the university.
The moment Julian Lawson left, Lana Chambers and Charlotte Vaughn showed their true colors.
"Mom, what do we do now?" Charlotte Vaughn said fearfully. "That bitch isn’t really going to kick us out of here, is she? I just signed the prenuptial agreement with Julian, so none of the Lawson family’s assets belong to me. If we get thrown out, won’t we have to spend a fortune to buy a new house? The property prices in Rivaster are so high right now. A villa would cost tens of millions!"
Lana Chambers was panicking, too. After all, Eve Vaughn had caught them completely off guard this time.
She had long considered this villa her own property. On top of that, the company’s cash flow is tight right now. How could they possibly have the spare cash to buy another villa?
Lana Chambers steadied herself and said, "I’ll discuss it with your father when he gets back. That little wretch wants to kick us out? It won’t be that easy! What can a legal letter do? She doesn’t scare me!"
...
Eve Vaughn had just returned to Rivaster University from the hospital.
The kind benefactor had indeed paid her mother’s medical bills again, and this time, he had paid a hundred thousand.
She walked onto campus, her head bowed as she composed a text message to thank the benefactor. Distracted, she bumped into a solid wall of flesh.
Eve Vaughn was about to apologize, but when she looked up, she saw it was Julian Lawson. Her gaze darkened, and her brow furrowed. "Get out of my way!"
She didn’t even want to know why he was looking for her.
Julian Lawson sneered, "Eve Vaughn, you won’t even pretend anymore? Back when you were aiming to be the young mistress of the Lawson Family, you at least bothered to act like you were deeply in love with me."
A familiar, sharp pain pricked at Eve Vaughn’s heart. What Julian Lawson was saying now was the exact same thing Mrs. Lawson had said when she forced Eve to leave him.
What a mama’s boy! Was she blind back then?
Eve Vaughn said sarcastically, "You know I’m not willing to pretend anymore, yet you still came looking for me? Julian Lawson, don’t you think you’re being a bit masochistic?"
The moment the words left her mouth, she was shocked at herself.
How could she ever have brought herself to speak to him with such a tone before?
As expected, Julian Lawson’s expression was incredibly ugly. He grabbed her arm, his eyes narrowing. "Are you playing hard to get with me? You’re repaying kindness with cruelty, trying to kick Charlotte’s family out, sending some legal letter... Isn’t all of this just to get my attention?"
This time, Eve Vaughn was so angry she actually laughed. She suddenly realized that Julian Lawson’s immaturity far exceeded her imagination.
This was the man she had been willing to give up half her life to save!
Eve Vaughn violently shook off his hand and cursed him without mercy, "Julian Lawson, your liver had a problem previously. Now, is there something wrong with your brain, too? In that case, let your savior, Charlotte Vaughn, donate half a brain to you!"
With that, her icy gaze swept over his darkened face, and she walked straight toward the campus.
Julian Lawson was seething. The more he thought about everything he had done for her in the past, the more furious he became.
He broke into a run, caught up to her, and once again blocked her path. "Eve Vaughn, stop right there!"
Just then, a few students who knew Julian Lawson passed by. They were also young masters from wealthy circles.
They were surprised. Hadn’t Eve Vaughn abandoned Julian Lawson when he was critically ill? Why are they getting into a scuffle now?
Worried about his pride, Julian Lawson acted nonchalantly and greeted them. After they left, he looked at her and said, "You’ve completely offended your aunt and uncle. Have you thought about what you’re going to do for your mother’s medical bills in the future?"
Eve Vaughn shot him a sidelong glance and asked coldly, "So? What’s your point?"
"My point is, I can pay for your mother’s medical expenses. And I can stay out of the dispute between you and your aunt and uncle."
An intimidating light shone in Julian Lawson’s dark eyes as he said, word by word, "But you have to come back to me. And you’ll stay, unless one day I truly figure things out and decide to let you go."
