After Divorce, She Became a Global Sensation and Won't Forgive Her Groveling Husband and Son
Chapter 206: A Gentleman’s Revenge, Ten Years Is Not Too Late
"She’s still alive, isn’t she?" Sophia Shaw looked at Esther Sullivan. "But my mom lost her life back then. How come I never saw you get this worked up?"
"That... I... That wasn’t..."
Esther Sullivan didn’t know how to explain.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t wanted to intervene. It was just that Yvonne Sherman was pregnant with her precious grandson, and her grandson was more important.
"Even after my mom died, you people refused to let her rest in peace, dragging her name through the mud for the whole world to see. I’m just following your example."
Sophia Shaw wasn’t a cruel person by nature, but when it came to the Shermans and the Jennings, she had no intention of being polite.
Her gaze swept slowly over Chad Jennings.
Though her expression was placid, Chad Jennings felt an overwhelming killing intent wash over him, and he couldn’t help but shiver in fear.
’This daughter of mine... So she can be utterly ruthless when she wants to be.’
Sophia Shaw’s gaze finally settled back on Yvonne Sherman. "My mother was humiliated by the entire city. I’ll never forget how that felt. Since you’re the one who caused it, it’s about time you got a taste of what I suffered!"
This was the very definition of "revenge is a dish best served cold."
This was what it meant to give someone a taste of their own medicine!
In just a few short days, Yvonne Sherman had experienced it all!
Her eyes were practically splitting with rage, her fingers contorting into claws as she tried to grab Sophia Shaw.
But she just couldn’t.
Yvonne Sherman never would have dreamed that the weakling she’d dismissed ten years ago would one day transform into a hawk, ready to sink its talons into her.
"AHHHHHH!"
Yvonne Sherman let out one piercing shriek after another, just like... just like Sophia Shaw ten years ago, tied up by Esther Sullivan, bashing her own head until she was a bloody mess...
Only when she saw Yvonne Sherman’s eyes roll back as she passed out did Sophia Shaw finally turn to leave.
As she passed Chad Jennings, he flinched and took a huge step back.
As if she were some kind of monster.
Esther Sullivan also stared at her granddaughter, her expression full of confusion.
’How did the cowardly, useless girl from her memories turn into... this?’
Levin Sawyer took several connecting flights overnight, finally returning to Crestfall the next day.
With him were Caleb Croft and Young Master Croft.
From the main entrance of Lead Aerospace, Caleb Croft kicked his son all the way to Sophia Shaw’s office as if he were a soccer ball.
Everyone at Lead Aerospace witnessed the spectacle, but no one dared to intervene.
Levin Sawyer, standing to the side, just watched coldly, not even bothering to put on an act.
Young Master Croft was kicked until he was black and blue. Caleb Croft’s roar was like thunder. "You animal! I told you to follow President Sawyer and learn the ropes, but you went behind my back and sabotaged me! All for some trashy woman, holding up the whole project!"
"I told you to pursue Miss Shaw, and instead you’re off giving flowers to that Joanna Sherman! The woman framed someone and got them locked up, and you used my good name to get her people out of trouble!"
"How did I ever have a son as stupid as you!"
Caleb Croft had completely lost all hope for his son; he didn’t hold back his kicks in the slightest.
He was too ashamed to face Sophia Shaw. "Chief Engineer Shaw," he said, "it’s my fault for failing to control my son. Today, I’ll kick him to death and then turn myself in to face the consequences!"
Caleb Croft wasn’t just talking. He really intended to kick his son to death.
"Don’t dirty her office, either! Go die somewhere else!" With that, he grabbed Young Master Croft and began dragging him outside.
Seeing that Caleb Croft was serious, Sophia Shaw finally intervened.
Seeing Sophia Shaw intervene, Levin Sawyer finally spoke up, his tone unhurried. "I don’t care if you kill him, but if you end up in prison, what will happen to all the men who follow you? You can’t expect them to starve, can you?"
Caleb Croft’s eyes went red.
’He was right. The guys at his company were his brothers-in-arms; they had been through hell and back with him. They had trusted him enough to follow him all over the country, building an empire from the ground up.’
’If something happened to him, his brothers would be dragged down with him.’
’Because of this son of his, he was caught between a rock and a hard place!’
Caleb Croft threw his son to the ground. "From this day forward, you are no longer my son!"
Right then and there, Caleb Croft made a call to have Young Master Croft officially removed from the family registry.
"Get out!"
Though Young Master Croft was a fool, he still had a sliver of pride.
He stumbled to his feet, but instead of leaving, he knelt silently in the doorway.
’Looking at Sophia Shaw, he was drowning in regret.’
’He’d been blind as a bat, unable to see who the real powerhouse was.’
’Even if he knelt here until he died, it would be what he deserved.’
Sophia Shaw and Levin Sawyer couldn’t be bothered with him. They spoke with Caleb Croft for a while longer before seeing him out.
’As for Young Master Croft, if he wanted to kneel, he could kneel there until he died for all they cared.’
After seeing Caleb Croft off, Sophia Shaw and Levin Sawyer walked back, side by side.
Jacobs ran over, a grim expression on his face. "Chief Shaw, President Sawyer, there’s a new development in Joanna Sherman’s case! Quick, look at the news online."
Sophia Shaw’s brow twitched as she looked over.
When she saw the headline, her eye twitched violently.
Levin Sawyer saw it too. His face darkened as he cursed, "Shameless!"
"I can’t believe it. Joanna Sherman’s mother is taking all the blame!" Jacobs said, equally surprised.
The report said Yvonne Sherman had turned herself in to the police. She claimed that while Joanna Sherman had orchestrated the entire plot, she couldn’t go through with it at the last minute and had called the whole thing off.
Yvonne claimed she was the one who, unwilling to let it go, had learned of the plan and revived it, contacting the relevant parties while posing as her daughter.
There was also a video. In it, Yvonne Sherman stood at the entrance of the police station, sobbing uncontrollably. "It was my fault. I just wanted my daughter to succeed so badly. When I found out Sophia Shaw was Old Master Sloan’s apprentice, I was terrified she would surpass my daughter. I was scared the reputation my daughter had fought so hard to build would just vanish."
"I’ve harmed Old Master Sloan and my own daughter. My crimes are unforgivable. No matter the sentence, however many years I get, I will accept it!"
The more Jacobs watched, the more indignant he became. "Yvonne Sherman is clearly sacrificing a pawn to save the king!"
"If they’ve colluded and their testimonies match, the police won’t be able to do a thing to Joanna Sherman!" Levin Sawyer stated the facts, his chest tightening with suppressed fury.
’Letting the real culprit escape justice so brazenly... It was infuriating.’
Sophia Shaw clenched her fists, too. The very air she breathed felt like it was full of razor blades, searing her throat as it went down.
’Yvonne Sherman really is ruthless. To save Joanna, she’s willing to sacrifice herself!’
"She must have had an expert guiding her," Sophia Shaw said softly, the teardrop mole beneath her eye seeming to tremble.
’And that expert... could it be Vincent Grant?’
Levin Sawyer gritted his teeth. "I’d like to see if Joanna Sherman has the gall to let her own mother take the fall and go to prison for her!"
They rushed to the police station.
From a distance, they saw Joanna Sherman standing on the steps of the police station. Gone was her usual glamorous appearance; her clothes were wrinkled and her hair was a mess.
Her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked completely haggard.
A crowd of reporters was gathered below the steps. She bowed her head, her voice thick with sobs. "I failed to live up to everyone’s expectations. In a moment of weakness, obsessed with winning, I gave in to wicked thoughts. I misled my mother and brought harm to Old Master Sloan."
"I, Joanna Sherman, hereby promise everyone that from this day forward, I will focus wholeheartedly on the field of rocketry. I will study hard and strive for excellence, dedicating myself solely to contributing to Cathan’s aerospace industry. I will never again engage in petty personal rivalries."
"She’s actually admitting to it!"
Levin Sawyer sneered, his eyes filled with thick sarcasm. Joanna Sherman had just set a new standard for shamelessness.
Jacobs was utterly contemptuous. "She’d even sacrifice her own mother. Is there anything she wouldn’t do?"
Levin Sawyer gestured contemptuously at someone behind Joanna Sherman. "Only a fool like Vincent Grant would believe that pack of lies!"
Vincent Grant emerged from behind Joanna Sherman. His brow was furrowed, his expression grim.
His appearance at a time like this was all the proof they needed.
Sophia Shaw had long since given up all hope in Vincent Grant, yet in that moment, she still felt a sharp pang in her chest.
The color drained from her face.
In that moment, the one she truly hated was her own foolish past self.
