Chapter 207: Chapter 207: The Wicked Get Their Due

After Joanna Sherman spoke, she hurriedly got into a car under her bodyguards’ protection and left.

Vincent Grant didn’t follow, instead looking over through the crowd.

His gaze landed on Sophia Shaw.

"Let’s go."

Levin Sawyer was utterly disgusted with Vincent Grant and didn’t want Sophia to have any contact with him.

He guided her by the shoulder toward the parking lot.

"Sophia."

But Vincent Grant followed, calling out to her.

Levin Sawyer pulled open the car door, shielding Sophia protectively. "President Grant, I think you’re lost. Your darling’s car went that way."

He jutted his chin in the direction Joanna Sherman had disappeared.

Vincent Grant frowned slightly. "Joanna is just a business partner."

He said this while looking at Sophia.

"Sophia, can we talk?"

"Vincent Grant, what gives you the right to think you can talk to Faye?" Levin Sawyer shot back impolitely.

"A few years ago, Joanna Sherman nearly ruined you—your reputation, your business, everything. It was our Faye who humbled herself to save you, but you don’t have a shred of gratitude. Instead, you’re treating the very person who tried to ruin you like a precious treasure."

"A blind piece of trash like you should get the hell away from us. Don’t dirty our Faye’s sight!"

Levin Sawyer’s barrage of insults—calling him blind, calling him trash—was matched only by how protectively he shielded Sophia. The two of them looked incredibly intimate.

Vincent Grant felt a pang of discomfort. "President Sawyer, I’m speaking with my wife. This doesn’t concern you."

"Wife?" Levin Sawyer let out a sharp laugh, as if he’d choke on it. "President Grant, you really have some nerve."

’They’re divorced, and he still has the gall to call her his wife!’

"Levin, let’s go."

Sophia Shaw got into the car first.

Her actions made it clear: she had no intention of talking.

’From the moment he helped Joanna Sherman get off scot-free, they were enemies.’

Levin Sawyer grunted in agreement and slammed the car door in Vincent Grant’s face.

He deliberately backed up a few yards, then suddenly accelerated and sped off.

The wheels hit a puddle perfectly, splashing muddy water all over Vincent Grant!

The two of them went to the hospital.

After that incident, Sophia felt a heaviness in her chest.

June Evans and Leah Evans were also there, having come to bring food for Seraphina Vaughn and Ms. Warren.

Seeing the two approach, June Evans sympathetically took Sophia’s hand. "Faye, don’t worry. The wicked will get what they deserve. Joanna Sherman won’t get away with it!"

Leah Evans was also about to say a few comforting words to Sophia, but she suddenly looked up and saw the man behind them, and her expression changed.

She rushed over in a few steps and roared, "You bastard, what are you doing here!"

Sophia turned her head and saw that Vincent Grant had followed them.

He had taken off his suit jacket, but you could still see the mudstains on his trousers. He had clearly come straight here.

’The heavens truly favored him. Even splattered with mud, his aristocratic air wasn’t the least bit diminished.’

’But so what? He was still just scum.’

Leah Evans looked like she wanted to eat him alive. "You listen here, you’re not welcome. Get out now!"

June Evans chimed in, "Vincent Grant, how can you favor Joanna Sherman like that? Doesn’t your conscience bother you at all?"

"What conscience? He doesn’t have one!" Leah Evans interjected. "That’s something people have. He’s an animal!"

"What? Did you come here to brag to Old Master Sloan after saving that darling of yours—the one who can’t launch a rocket to save her life and only knows how to hurt people?"

"The wicked will get their comeuppance sooner or later!"

Leah Evans unleashed a torrent of insults, holding nothing back.

Vincent Grant didn’t seem to mind, calmly saying, "I came to see Old Master Sloan."

"Anyone has the right to see our mentor—anyone except you and Joanna Sherman!" Sophia Shaw cut in coldly.

She took out her phone and made a call. "Dad, Vincent Grant is covering for Joanna Sherman. How should we handle this?"

Her call was to Julian Grant. She briefly explained what had happened.

’She never liked tattling to the Grants, but her mentor had been terribly wronged. If she didn’t ensure the accomplice was punished swiftly and severely, she’d never forgive herself.’

Julian Grant had always sided with Sophia, and he responded firmly, "The Grant family will answer to you for this."

When Vincent Grant saw Sophia reporting him to his own father, he flinched as if he’d been bitten by a snake, his brows knitting in pain.

But he waited until she hung up the phone to say, "I didn’t interfere in the matter of Joanna’s release from prison."

"Oh, please. If not you, who else could pull off a switch like that!" Leah Evans scoffed. "Grant, if you’d just admit it, I might still have a shred of respect for you. But doing something and not owning up to it makes you a total coward!"

Vincent Grant remained silent, not answering.

’His attitude said it all.’

’Sophia still had a basic understanding of Vincent. If he’d really done it, he wouldn’t deny it.’

’This was probably Yvonne Sherman’s doing.’

Sophia stopped Leah.

But her expression was still cold. "Our mentor is unconscious. You can’t see him even if you want to. Leave."

This time, Vincent Grant didn’t pester her further. He nodded and left.

"Even if he didn’t get involved, picking up Joanna Sherman from prison is still unforgivable!" Leah Evans spat at his retreating back. There was just no way she could ever feel anything but disgust for that scumbag.

’Still, fair was fair. If Vincent hadn’t been the one to get Joanna released, Sophia didn’t want to persecute him for it.’

She called Julian Grant back to explain.

"Faye." It was Old Mrs. Grant who answered the phone. "We heard about your teacher’s injury. Grandma and your father are on their way over. We’ll be there soon."

It wasn’t convenient for Levin Sawyer to entertain the Grants, and he happened to have work to do at his company, so he left after checking on Old Master Sloan.

Before long, Old Mrs. Grant and Julian Grant arrived.

Along with them were Miles Grant and Eleanor Crawford.

The moment Old Mrs. Grant arrived, she took Sophia’s hands, calling out "Faye, oh, Faye," her heart aching for the young woman.

"Something so terrible happened. How have you been getting through these past few days?"

"Look, you’ve gotten so thin."

Old Mrs. Grant caressed Sophia’s face, her eyes full of affection, shimmering with unshed tears.

Sophia stood motionless, letting the old woman’s dry palm slide across her skin.

"You silly child, even if you divorced Vincent, you’re still my granddaughter. Why didn’t you tell Grandma?"

"Don’t you want to acknowledge your grandma anymore?"

Old Master Sloan’s fall wasn’t caught on camera, and Old Mrs. Grant didn’t usually follow celebrity gossip, so she only learned about the whole incident when Lead Aerospace issued a statement.

Sophia squeezed the old woman’s dry, warm hand and shook her head. "Grandma, it’s not that I don’t want to acknowledge you."

Although Old Mrs. Grant wasn’t her biological grandmother, she had shown her more care than a real one could. Sophia had always felt a deep affection for her.

She said honestly, "I just didn’t want to keep making you worry about me."

Calling Julian Grant was already pushing her limit.

’It hadn’t been simple tattling; it was a formal complaint. The Grants were responsible for overseeing Vincent, and Julian Grant was his direct superior.’

"Oh, you dear child."

The more sensible Sophia was, the more heartbroken Old Mrs. Grant felt.

Julian Grant and Yancy Shaw started discussing Old Master Sloan’s condition, with Miles Grant standing by Julian’s side to understand the situation.

Eleanor Crawford, meanwhile, stood quietly by Old Mrs. Grant’s side.

When Julian Grant learned that Old Master Sloan hadn’t woken up, he specially arranged for two military doctors to be transferred from the military district.

Although they were "just" military doctors, they had impressive backgrounds.

When Yancy Shaw heard their names, his expression shifted slightly.

Being in business, he dealt with many people and had heard these two names mentioned before.

Not just anyone could be treated by them.

Yancy Shaw softly called Sophia’s name, letting her make the decision.

Old Mrs. Grant knew what they were concerned about and spoke up. "Don’t worry. Old Master Sloan has made invaluable contributions to Cathan’s rocket program, and he’s an important foreign dignitary. He is more than worthy of their care."

"That’s good, then."

Sophia both hoped Old Master Sloan would get the best medical resources and didn’t want the Grant family to be negatively affected or criticized because of it.

It’s lonely at the top.

The higher their position, the more sensitive things became.

"By the way, Dad, what I reported earlier... wasn’t accurate."

Sophia said after they had finished with the important matters.

"Just because it wasn’t accurate doesn’t mean he didn’t do anything wrong!" Old Mrs. Grant had no patience for her grandson right now. "He still deserves a beating!"

Miles Grant went to the military district to pick up the doctors. Yancy Shaw had intended to treat the group to a meal, but Sophia vetoed the idea.

The Grants’ status was sensitive; they didn’t dine out casually.

"Grandma, come to my place. I’ll cook something delicious for you myself."

Old Mrs. Grant patted the back of Sophia’s hand. "Let’s go to the marital home you shared with Vincent."

The marital home was indeed much larger than her own place.

Her own apartment was fine for one person, but with so many people, it would be difficult to even turn around.

Sophia didn’t know what to say, so she just nodded. "Okay."

Old Mrs. Grant also wanted to see Bun, so Sophia called Ms. Archer and asked her to bring Bun over. The group then headed straight for the marital home.

When they arrived, Vincent Grant was just walking out of the house.

Seeing the large procession, the corner of his lip curled up slightly. He greeted them, "Grandma, Dad, Sister-in-law."

His gaze, deep and lingering, rested on Sophia for a moment before he automatically took off his jacket.

"In the yard or inside?"
