Chapter 32: Chapter 32: A Homewrecker, and Shamelessly Bragging

"Something’s not right."

The director said the floor above has the most exclusive wards, reserved only for figures of national or international importance.

’How could Sophia Shaw’s maternal grandmother possibly get a room up there?’

Cedric Grant looked toward Patricia Holloway’s hospital room.

’Although the environment here is also very nice, it’s a far cry from the sixth floor.’

’How can Auntie Joanna’s grandmother be in a room that’s not as good as my great-grandmother’s?’

’I have to call Dad and get him to figure out a way to move Great-Grandma Sherman upstairs, too.’

Cedric Grant made an excuse to go outside and call Vincent Grant.

After a long time, Jack Holloway finally answered. "Cedric, your father is in a meeting. Is something wrong?"

Hearing that Vincent Grant was in a meeting, Cedric Grant’s shoulders slumped. "Uncle Holloway, how long will Dad’s meeting be?"

"That’s hard to say." Jack Holloway glanced down at his watch. "At least another two or three hours."

"That long?"

Cedric Grant’s shoulders slumped even more.

He said "goodbye" and walked back dejectedly.

When he saw the Shermans again, he could barely lift his head.

’I’m so useless. I can’t even get in touch with my own father.’

Cedric Grant dreamed of being able to help Joanna Sherman solve her problems; only then would she see him in a new light.

"Cedric, it’s getting late. Go see your great-grandmother one more time, then you should go home and do your homework," Joanna Sherman said.

"Okay!"

He might ignore what others said, but to Cedric Grant, Joanna Sherman’s words were like an imperial edict.

He shouldered his backpack, waved to the others, and on his way out, didn’t forget to give Joanna Sherman’s baby a hug.

’I wish I could be with Auntie Joanna and the baby every second of the day.’

’But if my grades are bad, how could I have the nerve to hang around them?’

’I have to be more outstanding. Only then will I be worthy of Auntie Joanna and the baby.’

Cedric Grant secretly clenched his fists. After leaving the room, he stood at the end of the hallway and stared upward for a long time.

’Mom must have known Great-Grandma Sherman was hospitalized, but she never said a word about it. She didn’t even tell me to come visit.’

’Auntie Joanna is different. She’s so much more magnanimous.’

’She was worried I didn’t spend enough time with Great-Grandma, so she reminded me to go see her again.’

’Sigh... Mom can’t compare to Auntie Joanna in any way, yet she’s always trying to compete. She’s like a pathetic clown.’

Cedric Grant really wanted to go see his great-grandmother again, but he was afraid of Sophia Shaw’s nagging, so he simply turned and headed downstairs.

Patricia Holloway didn’t dare bring up Sophia Shaw or the Shaws in front of Joanna Sherman, for fear of upsetting her.

Only after Joanna Sherman left did she dart out of bed and head for the door.

"Mom, where are you going?" Yvonne Sherman quickly called out to stop her.

Patricia Holloway pointed upstairs. "I’m going to have a look."

"What’s there to see!" Yvonne Sherman said contemptuously, but she didn’t try to stop Patricia Holloway again.

Patricia Holloway tiptoed upstairs, only to be stopped by a nurse. "Hello, this floor is not open to the public."

"I’m here to see a friend. Frances Sullivan is on this floor, isn’t she?"

Frances Sullivan was Old Mrs. Shaw’s maiden name.

But the nurses for the VIP wards weren’t easily fooled. "You can contact the patient or her family first."

Patricia Holloway and Old Mrs. Shaw were now mortal enemies; how could they possibly be in contact?

"If you can’t contact her, I’ll have to call security to escort you downstairs."

"No, no, no." Patricia Holloway waved her hands frantically. "I just wanted to ask how she’s doing, whether it’s serious or not."

No matter how she tried to fish for information, the nurse wouldn’t say a word.

Her lips were sealed tight.

Afraid the nurse would actually call someone to throw her out, Patricia Holloway could only retreat downstairs in embarrassment.

’Cedric must have gotten it wrong. Even Vincent Grant can’t get a room on this floor, so how could the Shaw Family have that kind of pull?’

’People have said it before—this floor is reserved for top experts from Cathan and abroad.’

’With the Shaw Family’s standing, they couldn’t even dream of it!’

"Grandma, are you tired?"

Just as Patricia Holloway turned to leave, she heard a voice from the hallway.

She quickly turned her head back, curious to see what kind of big shot was actually staying here.

Her narrow eyes peered deftly through the crack in the iron gate, and when she saw the people inside, she froze as if her pressure points had been struck.

"Well, well, look who it is."

June Evans was walking up from downstairs carrying a thermal container. When she saw Patricia Holloway, a cold sneer spread across her face.

On her way over, she had already learned about Yvonne Sherman and her mother bullying her mother-in-law, and she was simmering with rage.

Now that Patricia Holloway had walked right into the line of fire, June Evans wasn’t going to be polite.

"What? You want a tour of my mom’s hospital room? Sorry, you don’t have the status for that!"

For the past year or so, Patricia Holloway had been using Joanna Sherman to get close to Vincent Grant, acting high and mighty and bullying the Shaws whenever she could. Now, being belittled by June Evans like this, she felt a sharp, stabbing pain in her heart.

June Evans detested her viciousness and held nothing back. "Some people are just shameless. They know they’re the third party but go for it anyway, then have the audacity to parade around the special treatment they get from another woman’s husband." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"If it were me, I’d have found a block of tofu to smash my head on long ago."

"Oh, but that won’t do. Someone like that would just make the tofu dirty!"

Patricia Holloway trembled with rage, raising a shaky hand to retort, but when she saw June Evans casually walk through that gate, she couldn’t force out a single word.

She could only clutch at her heart.

June Evans slammed the iron gate shut with a BANG right in Patricia Holloway’s face and strode in. "Mom, Faye, I’m here."

Although the top floor had excellent amenities, including its own dedicated chef, the old lady was used to home-cooked food. June Evans had specially prepared a nourishing soup and brought it over.

As her grandmother ate, she couldn’t stop singing Levin Sawyer’s praises.

June Evans was dying of curiosity. Under the pretext of washing the dishes, she pulled Sophia Shaw into the kitchen. "What’s going on? Who is this Sawyer guy? How did he manage to get such a good room for your grandma?"

If her grandmother hadn’t told her the caliber of the room herself, June Evans would never have believed it.

"His name is Levin Sawyer. He’s the owner of Lead Aerospace and also my senior from school. He helped me out of camaraderie."

Sophia Shaw explained briefly.

For various reasons, she had never publicly disclosed the fact that she built rockets. Even Yancy Shaw only knew that she had studied rocket design.

The time wasn’t right, so Sophia Shaw didn’t reveal her true identity.

"No wonder."

Lead Aerospace wasn’t just the number one rocket launch company in Cathan; it held a pivotal position on the international stage. It was no surprise that Levin Sawyer could secure such a room.

"I never would have thought our Faye could know such an impressive senior," June Evans said in genuine admiration. The fact that Levin Sawyer had helped her thoroughly infuriate the Shermans was already a huge point in his favor.

"What did you say? That old hag from the Shaw family is really on the sixth floor?"

On the fifth floor, Yvonne Sherman stared at her mother in disbelief.

Patricia Holloway lay in bed, continuously rubbing her chest over her heart.

"It’s true! Where on earth did that woman get such connections?"

"We only managed to get on the fifth floor because of Vincent Grant. What gives her the right to be on the sixth?"

Just moments ago, she had been so smug about being able to stay here. Now, all of Patricia Holloway’s sense of superiority was gone.

All that remained was a heart full of jealousy toward Old Mrs. Shaw.

Yvonne Sherman paced back and forth quickly inside the room.

Her face was dark as she mentally ran through the Shaw Family’s network of connections.

"Impossible. Absolutely impossible!"

The two families had been rivals for so many years; Yvonne Sherman knew the Shaws’ situation very well.

In the entire Shaw Family, only Yancy Shaw was even remotely capable.

If it was a place even Vincent Grant couldn’t get into, there was no way Yancy Shaw could have pulled it off!

’This person must be more powerful than Vincent Grant, or at least more important than him!’

Yvonne Sherman couldn’t figure it out.

Patricia Holloway gritted her teeth viciously. "Yvonne, we can’t be careless about this. You must investigate it thoroughly!"
