After Divorce, She Became a Global Sensation and Won't Forgive Her Groveling Husband and Son
Chapter 31: Why Beg to Give What Isn’t Wanted?
"Grandma, just stay here."
Levin Sawyer gently urged her grandma to sit back down and looked at Sophia Shaw. "A relative of yours is permitted to stay in a room of this caliber."
As Cathan’s foremost expert in rocket launches, Sophia Shaw definitely qualified as an internationally important person.
Sophia Shaw understood and also tried to persuade her grandma.
She didn’t want to use Levin Sawyer to get special treatment, but if it was special treatment she was entitled to, Sophia Shaw wouldn’t refuse it.
Especially since it was for her grandma’s benefit.
Her grandma couldn’t refuse and had no choice but to stay.
Sophia Shaw led Levin Sawyer outside the door. "What are you doing here?"
Levin Sawyer said, "I went to your place to find you and happened to run into Ms. Archer. She told me you were at the hospital."
"I brought Bun and Ms. Archer with me. They’re downstairs buying fruit and will be up soon."
Sophia Shaw didn’t see Ms. Archer as a maid, but as an older sister.
For Ms. Archer’s first time meeting her grandma, even if it was a personal visit, bringing some fruit was the right thing to do.
"Still, thank you, senior."
If he hadn’t come, who knows how much her grandma would have suffered.
And she would have had to swallow all that frustration.
"Faye, don’t be a stranger." Levin Sawyer’s gaze was gentle.
They had always been senior and junior, as well as partners who fought side-by-side. Their relationship was as close as family.
’Those who are willing to treat you like family will always treat you like family.’
’And for those who aren’t, no amount of effort makes a difference.’
A bleak smile touched Sophia Shaw’s lips.
’If only I had recognized this six years ago.’
Levin Sawyer gently squeezed her shoulder.
Her shoulders were thin and fragile, completely unlike before.
Sophia Shaw wasn’t the bone-thin type of beauty. She had always been a little soft, and his first impression of her was that she was both beautiful and cute.
Back then, he couldn’t even believe she studied rocket manufacturing and design.
It wasn’t until he witnessed her astonishing performance a few times that he finally had to admit she was superior.
"Eat properly. Don’t waste your energy grieving over unnecessary people." Levin Sawyer’s eyes were heavy with heartache for her.
The Sophia Shaw he knew shouldn’t be like this.
"I know." Sophia Shaw nodded. "Don’t worry, I stopped having those feelings for Vincent Grant long ago."
’It’s just that he helped the Shermans trample on the Shaws today. I just can’t stomach it.’
Seeing her speak so lightly, not at all like the devastated way she used to be whenever Vincent Grant was mentioned, Levin Sawyer was extremely relieved.
After Levin Sawyer left, Sophia Shaw went downstairs to meet Ms. Archer and Bun.
In the elevator, she ran into Cedric Grant.
Cedric Grant seemed to be in a huge hurry, running at full speed with his backpack on. If Sophia Shaw hadn’t pulled him back, he probably would have crashed into the person in front of them.
"Mom?"
Seeing Sophia Shaw, Cedric Grant froze for a moment.
"What are you doing here?"
"Great-Grandma is sick." Sophia Shaw was concise, not mentioning anything else.
"Great-Grandma’s sick? Mom, I want to go see Great-Grandma." Cedric Grant was very anxious.
He had always been very close to his great-grandma.
Sophia Shaw could actually tell that Cedric Grant was here to see Patricia Holloway.
’Has he really gotten that close to the Shermans?’
The thought of her own son being close to the people who trampled over her family made Sophia Shaw extremely uncomfortable.
But her grandma did adore him, so it was good that he was willing to keep her company.
Sophia Shaw agreed. "Okay, I’ll take you up after I get your sister."
Just then, Ms. Archer came up with Bun.
Sophia Shaw took Bun and held her in her arms.
Bun had just woken up. Smelling that familiar, sweet scent, she knew it was her mommy and snuggled her little face against Sophia’s chest coaxingly.
The little one’s face was soft and squishy, and she was unbearably adorable. Sophia Shaw gently patted her little bottom and leaned down to kiss the top of her head.
Cedric Grant watched this scene, his heart aching with sadness.
’Why does Mom have to be so nice to an adopted daughter!’
’Her own biological son is here, and she didn’t even give me a hug!’
Cedric Grant remembered how Sophia Shaw used to hug, sniff, and kiss him every day.
But now, she was giving all that affection to her adopted daughter!
Cedric Grant deliberately paused, hoping Sophia Shaw would notice him.
"This way."
Sophia Shaw intentionally ignored him.
It wasn’t that she insisted on opposing Cedric Grant. But ever since Joanna Sherman had returned, he acted awkward every time she hugged him. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
One time, she had overheard Cedric Grant complaining to Vincent Grant: "Mom is so annoying, always hugging and kissing me. Can’t she have some boundaries like Auntie Joanna?"
"So annoying!"
’He’s the one who didn’t want it, so why should I force it on him?’
"Great-Grandma!"
Seeing his great-grandma, Cedric Grant finally cheered up again.
"Oh, Cedric."
His grandma was also overjoyed by Cedric Grant’s arrival.
She quickly grabbed the fruit on the table and stuffed it into Cedric Grant’s arms.
Cedric Grant sat close to his great-grandma, holding the fruit.
The old woman and the young boy made for an indescribably harmonious picture.
Sophia Shaw was happy to see them like this, smiling to the side as she held Bun.
Ms. Archer was busy peeling fruit for everyone.
"WAH, WAH." Bun uncomfortably tugged at her wet diaper with one hand and grabbed for Sophia Shaw’s hand with the other.
Sophia Shaw knew she was complaining and needed a diaper change. She took a fresh diaper from the bag Ms. Archer had brought and placed the little one on the bed to change her.
"Cedric, you do it!" His grandma gave him a little push. "You’re the big brother. You should learn to help your mom take care of your little sister."
The smile on Cedric Grant’s face instantly vanished. He shrank back as if avoiding the plague. "I don’t know how!"
His face was stiff, and the disgust in his eyes was blatant.
Ms. Archer had long known his attitude towards Bun. Fearing the old woman would notice something was amiss, she quickly bent over. "I’ll do it, I’ll do it!"
Sophia Shaw also saw the disgust in Cedric Grant’s eyes. She also noticed him repeatedly checking the time on his phone watch, guessing he wanted to go see Patricia Holloway.
In Cedric Grant’s heart, Patricia Holloway’s position had already surpassed his own great-grandma’s.
Not wanting to force him, Sophia Shaw said, "It’s getting late. You should go home and study."
"Okay!"
As if granted amnesty, Cedric Grant grabbed his schoolbag and quickly said, "Bye, Great-Grandma!"
Then he ran out.
Unaware of the real reason, his great-grandma sighed. "This child is really getting more and more diligent about his studies."
Ms. Archer and Sophia Shaw exchanged a look but didn’t expose the truth.
"How can you let the child leave by himself? Go walk him out."
Seeing Sophia Shaw not moving, her grandma urged her.
Sophia Shaw had no choice but to follow him out.
Cedric Grant was long gone, not a shadow of him in sight.
Still, Sophia Shaw went to the fifth floor to check Patricia Holloway’s hospital room.
He was there, just as she’d expected.
He was still out of breath, HUFFING AND PUFFING, but he was already bent over the bed, changing the diaper of Joanna Sherman’s daughter.
"Great-Grandma, Grandma, Auntie Joanna knows! I’m especially good at changing diapers!"
Cedric Grant’s hands didn’t stop moving as he spoke.
Sure enough, he deftly removed the old diaper, held the baby’s two little legs, and quickly put on a new one.
He was so fast that the entire process took less than a minute.
After changing the diaper, he picked up the baby to soothe her, expertly patting her body. Seeing the surprise in Patricia Holloway’s and Yvonne Sherman’s eyes, a sweet smile spread across his lips.
’Just as I thought. It’s not that Cedric Grant doesn’t know how to change a diaper; he just disdains doing it for Bun!’
Sophia Shaw no longer felt as hurt as she did when she first realized Cedric Grant didn’t care about Bun.
’If he doesn’t care, then he doesn’t care.’
’Bun has her great-uncle, great-aunt, Great-Grandma, and Chloe. She isn’t lacking for love.’
Sophia Shaw turned and walked away.
In the bed, Patricia Holloway saw how Cedric Grant was not only clingy with Joanna Sherman but also so devoted to her adopted child. She exchanged a look with Yvonne Sherman.
Joanna Sherman seemed not to notice their subtle exchange. Her expression remained cool and aloof, as if she disdained competing with anyone or vying for anyone’s favor.
She only asked Cedric Grant, "I heard your great-grandma is also in the hospital. Have you been to see her?"
"I have." Hearing Joanna Sherman’s question, Cedric Grant’s brow furrowed slightly as he thought of his mother’s neglect and favoritism.
He felt very unhappy.
But he still said, "I ran into Mom on my way up, so I went upstairs to see my great-grandma first, then came down to see Great-Grandma Sherman."
"Upstairs?" Yvonne Sherman and Patricia Holloway were startled at the same time.
