After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 243: Living in Your Heart (7)
Outside, the crowd was vast, all gathered together, leaving no one to notice her with only her eyes visible.
She dashed out from the crowd, threw away the blanket, and headed towards a quieter area.
Although it was night, it didn’t affect her sense of direction.
Her body was light, allowing her to move swiftly.
Finding a secluded corner, she quickly changed the mask on her face, transforming from Flora Palmer back to Tia Bailey.
Once she packed Flora Palmer’s mask, she looked for an opportunity to leave.
In the dark of night, her figure moved like a flash.
At that moment, Lucy only wanted to leave the Presidential Mansion swiftly. Since fate granted her this chance, she would undoubtedly seize it.
Unfortunately, while she was given a chance to leave the cell, she wasn’t granted one to leave the Presidential Mansion.
A large force of officials and soldiers started guarding every area in perfect order.
At this point, Lucy could no longer worry about anything else and climbed into Emma Bennett’s courtyard.
This place was relatively safe.
Because of the chaos outside, there weren’t many people in the courtyard.
Lucy grabbed the window sill and climbed onto the balcony.
"Who?!" Emma Bennett shouted softly, having heard the commotion.
Lucy opened the balcony door and entered, lowering her voice, "Your Highness, don’t panic. I’m one of Lucy Eaton’s people."
"Little Lucy... people?"
"Yes." She approached him and whispered, "Your Highness might not know, but the mastermind behind poisoning Your Highness is my master. Flora Palmer was merely the executor. I came to rescue her; she’s safely escaped, but I’m stuck here. Please help me get out."
Emma Bennett raised his eyes. Though he was blind, Lucy always felt he could see right through her.
"How can you prove you’re one of her people?"
"My master, disguised as Evelyn Butler, accompanied Your Highness abroad."
Just that one sentence was indeed proof enough.
After all, only the most trusted people knew about that incident.
"What’s your name?"
"I’m Tia Bailey, currently an apprentice at the Ophthalmology Institute."
Emma Bennett was surprised, "Ophthalmology?"
"Yes."
"What’s your relationship with Elliot Gill?" Tia Bailey’s name sounded familiar to him, and after thinking, he recalled.
"I’m his girlfriend."
"Fake?"
"..." Lucy knew he was sharp, unexpectedly seeing right through her.
"Why does Your Highness say that?"
"I believe Lucy has a collaboration with Flora Palmer, but Elliot Gill, not so likely."
True to being the Second Highness, he understood her so well?
"The Ophthalmology Institute is a team of seasoned doctors and professors from the Capital City. They’re currently researching eye transplant surgery. It might take a while, but I’m sure that one day, Your Highness will regain sight," Lucy whispered, "Though my master is gone, I’ll do my utmost to help you."
"Leave your contact information, and I’ll have someone help you leave here."
"Alright."
Lucy felt relieved and input her number into his phone, saying, "Your Highness, just use voice command ’Tia’ on the phone, and it will automatically dial my number."
"Okay."
With Emma Bennett’s help, Lucy successfully left the Presidential Mansion.
Tonight truly showcased a perfect blend of timing and favor—so fortunate.
She originally thought it would take at least several days at the quickest, half a month at the slowest, but didn’t expect to get out so fast.
Aaron McCarthy drove her to the traffic light intersection and then returned.
Lucy didn’t go back to Newhope Commons but instead hired a car to take the highway to Ningham to find her own car.
She changed into the clothes she had prepared long ago.
Then she turned on her phone.
Message alerts bombarded relentlessly.
All messages were from Jacob Green.
She read through them from start to finish, with the latest message sent three hours ago.
Lucy called him back.
He picked up almost instantly as if holding the phone.
"Miss Tia?"
"It’s me."
"Being able to call means... you’re safe?"
"Congratulations, you guessed right. I’m in Ningham. Where are you?"
Jacob Green’s voice was noticeably cheerful, "You go to Blossom Haven and wait for me. I’m in Northriver, heading back right away."
"Okay, is Flora arranged properly?"
"She’s been secretly sent abroad. No need to worry."
"Good."
Returning here after more than two months brought a whirlwind of emotions for Lucy.
Nathaniel Green met her at the door and asked nothing, evidently having been briefed by Jacob Green.
She went to the guest room, enjoyed a good soak, dried her hair, and then felt her lower abdomen starting to ache slightly. Visiting the bathroom, she found traces of blood.
Lucy panicked, hurriedly dressed, and rushed out.
"Miss Tia, are you leaving? The young master will be home soon."
"I have an urgent matter. I’ll explain to the young master on my way."
"Alright."
She went to the hospital and registered for an emergency appointment.
While waiting in line, she sent Jacob Green a message: [I’m bleeding; heading to the First People’s Hospital for a check-up.]
Lucy knew he could receive messages only after landing, so she didn’t wait for his reply and put the phone back in her bag.
She waited for nearly half an hour before it was her turn.
During the ultrasound, she felt nervous, dreading news that something happened to the baby.
Seeing the doctor’s slight frown, Lucy’s voice trembled, "Doctor... can the child be saved?"
"That depends on fate. Your situation is precarious. There’s a high risk of miscarriage," the doctor handed her a tissue to wipe the gel from her abdomen, "Take this to the gynecologist for a hormone shot and medication, then monitor the situation."
Lucy put on her shoes, took the examination report, and her face turned pale.
The gynecologist saw the report and echoed the ultrasound doctor’s words, "Your prognosis is not good. I recommend bed rest while supporting the pregnancy. Finish the medication, then return for a follow-up. You’ll need to pay for the services."
At the payment counter, Lucy glimpsed Jacob Green rushing in.
He wore a black baseball cap and mask, breathlessly approaching her.
For some reason, seeing him made Lucy’s nose sting, tears on the verge of falling.
"The doctor said there’s a high risk of miscarriage for the baby."
He reached out, pulling her into his embrace, "With me here, everything will be fine."
She handed him the report. After paying, Jacob Green procured the medication and accompanied her to the gynecological department for the hormone shot.
Afterwards, he held her hand as they left the hospital.
At that late hour, hardly anyone was on the street.
Once Flora arrived in Ningham, Jacob Green found out it was Lucy who rescued her.
He was both angry and anxious, furious that while he was preparing to rescue Flora, Lucy risked her own safety to save someone.
