After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 258: Living in Your Heart (22)
"It’s leading us," said Jacob Green with a hint of excitement, "Let’s follow it."
Everyone followed the bird continuously until they entered a dense forest and stopped in front of a particularly robust tree.
Among many thick trees, it was not conspicuous.
The light swept up and down the tree, estimating that it had been there for many years, otherwise, it wouldn’t be so sturdy.
Lucy Eaton used her phone to get the location, and because the signal was poor, it took ten minutes to get a successful fix.
She calculated carefully.
"This is the right spot, but he didn’t say how to get inside."
"There must be a mechanism. Since we’re here, are we afraid of not getting in?"
Elliot Gill approached the tree and knocked on it, discovering it was hollow inside.
Looking up at the leaves, he couldn’t figure out how the branches grew with the tree being hollow inside.
This tree definitely has a mechanism that allows entry.
Jacob Green’s hand groped along the bark from bottom to top; about half a meter from the ground, he felt a hard spot. He pressed it hard downward, and with a click, the seamlessly closed bark cracked open to reveal a door. Lucy Eaton shone a light inside, and the three of them were stunned.
Inside, at a height of one meter, there was a real tree, but below one meter, it was counterfeit bark, crafted very realistically.
A towering tree planted on a one-meter-high platform, able to stand firm for so long; Lucy Eaton suddenly realized why Pharaoh Marcus Hayes III’s tomb hadn’t been discovered by modern people.
Why the tomb was built here she could roughly guess; the less concerned about feng shui, and seemingly worthless places, are the safest.
She wanted to bend down and crawl into the tree hole but was stopped by Jacob Green, "I’ll go first."
He descended slowly down a hanging ladder, followed by Lucy Eaton, with Elliot Gill bringing up the rear.
Upon landing and seeing the murals on the wall, Lucy Eaton’s eyes welled up instantly.
The paintings on the wall were lifelike, and every scene included her.
Looking at these murals, her tears flowed even more fiercely.
The long-lost joys, sorrows, unforgettable and poignant moments seemed to be displayed for her to see.
Jacob Green knew who painted this, but seeing it in person was still shocking.
Elliot Gill’s face turned completely pale; seeing Lucy Eaton cry like that, he knew he had utterly lost.
Whether it was hundreds of years ago or now, he could not step into this woman’s heart even a little.
Originally, he thought she would re-evaluate Jacob Green knowing the truth of history.
Now he believed, whether she knew or not, nothing in the present reality would change.
"I really didn’t expect, even in death, to not forget to show affection. Hmph."
Hearing this, Jacob Green found it inexplicably amusing.
"Without love, what is there to show off?"
Hearing the conversation, Lucy Eaton broke into a teary smile, "You two are something else."
"That’s the burial chamber over there, let’s go take a look," Elliot Gill pointed towards the lit area.
Ignoring countless burial goods like furniture and ceramics, they followed the murals inside until they reached the burial chamber.
Luminous Pearls lit up the chamber.
The light was ample.
Just as they were about to enter, Jacob Green stopped them, "There’s usually defensive weapons set up in burial chambers, be careful."
He casually picked up a small ceramic piece and threw it inside; it shattered, and a flurry of arrows shot outwards.
The three quickly retreated to dodge.
"That was close."
Jacob Green tried again, finding no more weapons activated, he then entered.
Two coffins lay side by side, about two meters apart by estimation.
Lucy Eaton approached and noticed one of the coffins had runes tightly stuck on its lid.
"This must be the coffin of Marcus Hayes III."
She wanted to pull it off, but as her hand touched the rune, it jumped to another location. After several tries, she understood; this must be the array, the blinding technique maze Marcus Hayes III spoke of.
Even the most powerful blinding technique merely confuses a person’s ability to discern.
Lucy Eaton closed her eyes, reached out, and lightly moved her hand on the coffin lid, finding the rune effortlessly.
With it in her hand, she opened her eyes and ripped the rune into pieces.
As soon as she finished tearing it, Jacob Green staggered for a moment, avoiding a fall by holding onto the coffin.
"Have you remembered?" Lucy Eaton asked uncertainly.
Jacob Green squinted, furrowed his brow slightly, and nodded.
Lucy Eaton’s restless heart finally calmed down.
Just as she was about to say something, he suddenly held her tightly and turned to kiss her.
Elliot Gill couldn’t bear to watch, feeling a pang of jealousy, "Am I just air to you two?"
Saying so, he pulled out tools from his bag to open the coffin.
The coffin had six layers, one after another, requiring considerable effort and a long time to open completely.
As the lid was pushed open, a fragrance wafted out, prompting everyone to cover their noses and peer inside.
It was a man-made mummy.
The fragrance was artificial embalmment spice.
And the mummy was well-preserved, face exposed, easily recognizable, looking exactly like Jacob Green.
If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes and experienced it firsthand, Lucy Eaton would never have believed such mystical things existed in this world.
Jacob Green was actually Pharaoh Marcus Hayes III of Country A’s Thirteen Dynasty.
And she turned out to be Tia Bailey, his favored concubine.
Elliot Gill, however, showed no surprise.
He bent down and reached inside, picking up a pink Vermillion Hairpin near Marcus Hayes III’s head, with hibiscus and a white jade pendant, clearly meant for a woman.
"Tia, this was yours, I want it, Jacob Green, you better not snatch it from me."
Jacob Green laughed, "I’m not that petty; you can have it, as long as Lucy is mine, that’s what matters."
Apart from the Vermillion Hairpin, the coffin contained a stack of thick paper, which Lucy Eaton bent down to retrieve.
The pages were covered with dense writing, made of a special material that felt soft yet difficult to tear.
Lucy Eaton squatted down, leaned against the coffin, and together with the two men, went through the pages one by one.
These were letters Marcus Hayes III wrote to Tia Bailey.
The letters were full of remorse, love, longing, and pain...
All these strong emotions intertwined, making Lucy Eaton’s heart churn, unlocking memories long buried.
Tia Bailey and Marcus Hayes III were love at first sight. When they were together, Marcus Hayes III was just one of many sons that his father didn’t value, and Tia Bailey was only a commoner’s daughter with no strong family backing. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
The two had secretly been together for over two years, remaining undiscovered and untroubled.
Until Marcus Hayes III was arranged to marry by his father, to none other than his Queen, Diana Doll.
Diana Doll was a noble lady from a prominent family; this marriage was a one-sided proposal of admiration from her for Marcus Hayes III, which was approved by Marcus Hayes’s father.
