Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 104: The helicopter crashed
The crow charged at Waldo, fists clenched. "Die! I’ll avenge my brother!" He attacked with a fierce and fiery punch. Even with his battle armor, Waldo couldn’t take the blow head-on and had to evade and dodge.
Waldo sidestepped and blocked the crow’s punch, then countered with a whip kick. Although he hadn’t learned much formal martial arts, his physical prowess was impressive.
However, his usual effective "luring kick" failed for the first time, as the crow managed to block it. The crow sneered, "Pathetic!"
The crow continued his assault with a straight kick, and Waldo, although unharmed, was pushed back by the force. Luckily, the battle armor protected him from severe injuries.
Mocking Waldo’s armor, the crow said, "Aren’t you brave with that iron shell? Do you dare fight without it?"
Waldo smiled faintly and replied, "Why don’t you try it on?"
They engaged in a heated battle, with the experienced crow using various deadly fighting techniques to overpower Waldo. Fortunately, the battle armor kept him from serious harm.
The crow seized an opportunity and punched Waldo in the chest, making it slightly warm due to the flames. However, Waldo managed to retaliate with a kick, and they both stepped back, evenly matched.
Waldo was surprised by the crow’s high-temperature flames. The upgraded S-alloy battle armor couldn’t completely isolate such extreme temperatures.
Drawing his military knife, Waldo prepared for another round. The crow taunted, "Using a knife now? Do you need me to fight you with one hand?"
Ignoring the provocation, Waldo retorted, "Less talk, we’ll see who wins in the end."
The crow’s flames surged as he charged forward again. Seeing the military knife about to stab him, he didn’t panic and grabbed the blade with his right hand.
With a loud shout, the crow ignited his flames, melting the military knife into molten metal, which dripped to the ground. Waldo stepped back in shock, throwing away the remaining hilt.
Without realizing it, he had moved close to the cockpit of the helicopter. The pilot was struggling to keep the aircraft steady as the fight between Waldo and the crow caused it to tilt.
Suddenly, the pilot felt someone’s gaze on him and turned to see Waldo looking at him. In an instant, Waldo snapped his neck.
Shocked, the crow pointed at Waldo and cursed, "Are you crazy? The pilot is dead, are you going to fly the helicopter?"
Waldo shrugged, "Not my problem."
Then he smashed the control panel with a punch, causing the helicopter to lose control.
The crow was so angry that he wanted to rush forward, but the sudden tilt of the helicopter almost threw him out. He had to grip the seat nervously.
"What good does this do for you? We’re both going to die! Falling from this height will definitely be gruesome." The crow lamented.
However, Waldo just grinned, "Who said I’m going to die? The one who’s going to die is you."
With that, Waldo kicked through the helicopter’s windshield. Stepping out of the cockpit, he taunted, "Kid, you’re a good fighter. I admit defeat. But now, it’s time for you to die. Thanks and goodbye!"
Then, he took out a parachute from his backpack and leaped off the helicopter. Watching the confident Waldo leave, the crow’s eyes were filled with fury. "10086, fuck you!"
He never expected to meet his end in such a pitiful manner, just like his brother.
He screamed and thrashed around, but it was in vain. The helicopter quickly plummeted and exploded after a burst of fire. The crow, gone.
Waldo jumped down immediately. After moving away from the falling helicopter, he opened the parachute without hesitation to avoid being caught in the rotor blades. This move was risky as he didn’t have enough altitude for a proper cushioned landing. It was a gamble.
He was betting that the battle armor could withstand the impact, and he wouldn’t be harmed by the recoil. He was essentially gambling with his life.
However, there was no other way to destroy the helicopter effectively. Waldo had to admit that the crow was indeed a formidable opponent, especially with his military combat skills nearly overpowering him.
In the old world, Waldo was just an ordinary worker. Despite his strong physique, he didn’t have a significant advantage in close combat against ruthless mercenaries or skilled survivors. However, against lower-level survivors, he was undoubtedly capable.
Yet, times had changed. Inside the cramped space of the helicopter, Waldo couldn’t use his firearms effectively. He was even concerned that the crow might melt his guns if he got hold of them.
The cramped space was a disadvantage for him. Otherwise, he would have shouted "Sukar Bel" and shot at the crow without hesitation.
Waldo quickly descended above the villa. His speed was too fast, making it dangerous. He tried to catch the rooftop railing with his feet, but it didn’t slow his descent. In fact, the parachute started to contract, causing him to descend faster.
Waldo decided to release the parachute and grabbed the wall to increase resistance. He had imagined himself landing gracefully like a cartoon character, but reality taught him a lesson.
Waldo tried to slow down but ended up falling into a pile of fruits and vegetables in the courtyard. Fortunately, he managed to save himself.
He crawled out of the broken pile of produce, shaking his head. "Surviving a close call will bring great fortune!"
Waldo ran up to the second floor of the villa. Alanna and Helen had watched him jump from the helicopter, landing dangerously in the courtyard, and their hearts were pounding. They immediately rushed to his side, ignoring the ground forces of the police, wanting to check on his condition.
Alanna activated her "Heal" skill and used it on Waldo, who was catching his breath after taking off the combat suit. "Are you trying to get yourself killed? Jumping from such a height, do you think you’re a superhero or something?"
Helen joined in scolding, "Waldo, you jerk! Do you know we were almost in tears just now?"
Waldo’s pale face gradually regained its color as he chuckled, "Well, you cried already, didn’t you?"
Helen couldn’t hold back her tears and slapped him on the shoulder. "No joking!"
She quickly apologized, worried that she had hit him too hard. But Waldo waved it off and said to both of them, "I’m sorry, I really made you worry this time."
Alanna tried to mediate, "It’s okay as long as you’re fine. Now, let’s see how to deal with those people on the ground."
Waldo and Helen nodded in agreement.
Outside the villa, Sheriff and the others watched the helicopter twisting and turning in the sky before witnessing 10086, wearing a silver combat suit, jumping out of the helicopter. Their hearts skipped a beat, just as they expected.
The helicopter crashed into the woods outside the villa area, and the explosion told them that the people on the helicopter were probably dead. The crow was up there!
Unlike his useless brother who didn’t awaken any skills even after reaching level ten, the crow had the potential to develop the "Fire Fist" skill. And yet, he died like this?!
Sheriff felt regretful and distressed. Moreover, they lost the last helicopter of the police.
Now, he faced an even more severe question: Should they continue the fight or retreat?
The ground forces of the police had almost run out of ammunition and still couldn’t break through the "Energy Shield." Despair started to creep in.
The helicopter crash had further dampened their spirits. This time, it was a one-sided loss for the police, a loss of both resources and personnel.
Sheriff was facing a hopeless situation. Now, the only option seemed to be a retreat while there was still a chance to regroup and make a comeback.
Sheriff had no choice but to give up.
This outcome was unexpected. Sheriff had never imagined that he would return empty-handed like this, and much of it was due to the "Energy Shield," the platinum-level defense device that should have belonged to the police.
Sheriff was filled with resentment and wished he could tear Waldo apart.
Using my own belongings against me, it’s a disgrace! This is what Sheriff thought.
He considered himself a veteran in the mercenary circle for so many years, and no one had ever dared to take something from his mouth and dance around like Waldo did. Even after coming to the post-apocalyptic world, Waldo was the first.
But now, Sheriff had to admit that if they continued to stubbornly fight, the foundation of his police force might crumble. Supplies could be replenished, but once people died and supplies were gone, the police force would be truly finished.
So, when Scorpion heard Sheriff’s order to retreat, he immediately used the communication device to contact Black Bear and regroup the remaining police force, preparing to retreat.
As they were leaving, Sheriff took a deep look at Waldo. He would come back! This time, 10086 got lucky. But next time, when the police force developed the old city area and gained higher-level supplies, they would return and it would be 10086’s death knell! Sheriff felt a surge of passion in his heart. Next time, he would be able to reclaim their position!
Waldo, Alanna, and Helen watched Sheriff’s unexpected retreat with surprise. It felt like the foreplay had just finished, and they had barely started the main act when it suddenly ended, quite abruptly. Before the retreat, the police force had been relentlessly bombarding the area for more than ten to twenty minutes. If it weren’t for the "Energy Shield," they could have broken the S alloy walls around the villa.
Yet, even though the police force had been fierce, they suddenly withdrew when the energy of the "Energy Shield" was less than thirty percent!
Alanna was puzzled, finding it hard to believe that the police force had actually retreated. This was too strange!
Outside the villa, the police members had all retreated, covering each other as they quickly left the villa complex. Instead of using vehicles immediately, they ran all the way, keeping out of Waldo and the others’ shooting range.
Helen was also unsure about what was happening. They were still nervous inside the "Energy Shield," and yet the police force had retreated?!
Waldo joked, "Could it be that they ran out of ammunition? Otherwise, their retreat doesn’t seem like Sheriff’s style."
After saying that, Waldo fell silent. He seemed to have unintentionally guessed some facts.
Alanna and Helen heard his words and nodded in agreement. It must be so.
Without ammunition to continue the attack, or if the ammunition was so scarce that they couldn’t afford to waste it any further, they had no choice but to give up. Indeed, if the police force didn’t have enough ammunition, they would never let Waldo and the others off so easily.
Waldo smiled. If that was the case, then I must seize this opportunity and go for the kill. The police force was so aggressive, even coming to my doorstep to show off. I can’t swallow this humiliation.
He had guessed that the police force lacked firepower and wouldn’t miss this chance.
Helen looked at Waldo with colorful light swirling in her eyes. Obviously, she also had some ideas. She could guess that Waldo might have a plan and wanted to confirm it.
Waldo, what do you plan to do?
Waldo smiled faintly and took out the battle-worn combat suit. Naturally, I’ll take advantage of the situation and pursue them.
Helen also smiled.
