Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 107: Fight to the death
After a dozen minutes, only a few scattered police members remained as the rearguard, and they had exhausted all their bullets. It’s time to end this! Waldo sneered, stepping out of the armored vehicle and putting it back into his backpack.
He was in a bad mood now. Sheriff and the others had been gone for quite some time, and he didn’t know if they would catch up later. He thought he had trapped them, but they managed to escape, leaving him frustrated.
The remaining few unfortunate souls faced the desperate situation, looking at each other and drawing their cold weapons, charging towards Waldo. Waldo, however, was not foolish like those characters on TV, when they took out big knives, he didn’t hesitate to pull out his AK47 and fired at them. One by one, they fell until only the last tattooed man remained.
With the muzzle of the AK47 pressed against the man’s chest, Waldo smiled faintly. "Go ahead, say your last words. I’ll be sending you on your way soon."
The tattooed man’s eyes flickered as he said, "I bet there are no bullets in your gun!"
Waldo, hearing this famous saying from the old world, rolled his eyes in disbelief. "You’re right, you win." He then took out a pistol and added, "But you also lose."
"Damn it!" The tattooed man fell to the ground, full of resentment.
Waldo wasted no time and continued the pursuit after getting rid of the last obstacle. Sheriff and the others had left a group of unlucky people behind to slow him down. He needed to catch up to them.
Sheriff’s team, without any hesitation, left some people behind and continued their rapid progress. They were determined to retreat unscathed, for only then could they seek revenge later.
Scorpion, however, kept quiet this time. He was still puzzled by how 10086 came after them so fiercely. The way he sprayed bullets recklessly, seemingly never running out, was baffling. And why didn’t he get hurt? Even in a combat suit, he shouldn’t be immune to damage. After all, it was only a golden-level defense equipment.
Sheriff pondered the same question and couldn’t comprehend why 10086 was so formidable. It seemed like he could take countless bullets without a scratch, and he kept coming at them relentlessly. But he knew that 10086 must be taking damage; otherwise, how could he have jumped down from the helicopter and limped to get treated by Alanna?
The mystery lay in 10086’s extraordinary ability to endure damage and his willingness to sacrifice himself. It was like a martial art that involved hurting the enemy while hurting oneself. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so nonchalant even after being showered with bullets.
Thankfully, Alanna’s healing abilities allowed him to take such risks without fear. It was fortunate to have her as a backup, which emboldened him to take such risks.
"How much longer until we reach the base?" Sheriff suddenly asked, interrupting Scorpion’s thoughts.
Scorpion hesitated for a moment but quickly replied, "Boss, we should be able to get back in half an hour. Leaving a group behind as a rearguard indeed bought us a significant amount of time. Even if 10086 has transportation, it will be challenging for them to catch up with us at full speed."
Sheriff nodded, feeling relieved. "That’s good."
But just at that moment, the driver hesitated and spoke up, "Boss, we might have to get out of the car and walk."
Scorpion, sitting in the passenger seat, furrowed his brows and looked displeased. "What nonsense are you talking about? How could we possibly walk back from here? If you dare to say such nonsense again, I’ll knock your teeth out!"
Sheriff also frowned, but he wasn’t as impulsive as Scorpion. He knew that the driver must have a reason for suddenly saying this.
As expected, the driver timidly explained, "Scorpion, I didn’t mean that. What I meant is that our car is running out of gas."
Scorpion had a black line on his face. "Why didn’t you say so earlier? I have gasoline with me. Stop the car, and let’s refuel."
So, the driver obediently stopped the car, and together with Scorpion, they got out to refuel.
During tough times, even drinking water is precious. After Scorpion and the driver got out, they opened the fuel tank, ready to refuel. However, they noticed a long trail of gasoline on the road along the way.
The fuel tank was leaking.
The driver suddenly realized, "That’s why I didn’t have any reserve fuel. The gasoline must have been leaking, causing the excessive consumption!"
Thankfully, there were no sparks along the way; otherwise, it would have exploded.
Scorpion couldn’t help but roll his eyes at the driver’s words and wished to shut his crow’s mouth.
Afterward, he returned to the car and reported the situation to Sheriff. "Boss, the car is not out of gas; it’s leaking fuel. I believe it must have been punctured during 10086’s pursuit earlier."
Hearing Scorpion’s analysis, Sheriff was secretly amazed. It was incredible that the car hadn’t exploded despite the leakage. He was indeed lucky.
At this moment, Black Bear approached. He had been on another truck before and saw Sheriff’s car stopping, so he ran over to check the situation.
"Boss, what’s going on? Why did we suddenly stop?" Black Bear asked.
Sheriff was about to answer when Black Bear suddenly pointed to the road behind them and shouted, "Not good, he’s catching up!"
Originally, Waldo had almost given up on finding the main police force, but in those few minutes when they were delayed due to the fuel leakage, he caught up with them.
"Boss, let’s all get on the truck together!" Black Bear suggested urgently.
However, Scorpion immediately shook his head. "No, the truck is too slow; we’ll definitely be caught. Also, didn’t you see the truck getting blasted earlier? It’s too dangerous for the boss to ride it!"
Black Bear furrowed his brows. "Then what should we do? The armored SUV is leaking fuel. Are we supposed to run back?"
The two of them started to argue, causing Sheriff a headache.
"Enough! Stop arguing! Prepare to counterattack; we can’t avoid it," Sheriff said with a stern expression.
Scorpion and Black Bear stopped arguing and nodded respectfully. "Yes!"
