Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 126: Resisting the meteor shower
Now, the meteor shower directly hit the central area, instantly claiming many lives.
Some survivors clung to a glimmer of hope, thinking that although they didn’t have underground bunkers, they could hide in tall buildings and the meteor shower wouldn’t be able to reach them.
However, the reality proved otherwise. Part of the meteor shower in the central area struck the surface buildings like artillery shells, causing them to explode instantly. The survivors inside had no chance of survival.
It was a catastrophe that destroyed this city!
The next day, the meteor shower continued to descend regularly on every corner of the city. Even the suburbs were not spared and finally got hit by the meteor shower.
Waldo and his companions had their breakfast and opened the system’s news window to see the situation on the ground for the day.
In just one day, it felt like hell on earth. The ground was filled with the ruins of buildings, and the massive zombie horde was scarce. The desiccated bodies of some ground survivors were scattered everywhere on the roads.
Not everyone was lucky enough to be instantly evaporated by the meteor shower without experiencing the agony of death. Many more survivors endured the torment of the meteor shower’s high temperature and radiation before dying in agony.
According to the system’s prompts, the ground temperature was still rising! It was now close to reaching the previous known temperature limit on Earth.
However, in this apocalyptic world, all known limits were meant to be broken. The temperature continued to soar and was about to reach hundreds of degrees Celsius.
No wonder the system had explicitly emphasized the need to build underground bunkers. Without them, even if one wasn’t hit by a meteor, they would be wiped out by radiation and high temperatures.
The chat channel today was much quieter than yesterday. All the ground survivors were dead. The city probably only had a few tens of thousands of people left.
No one was interested in idle chat in the chat channel anymore. They weren’t mourning the dead survivors, but rather worrying about the sturdiness of their own underground bunkers.
However, after Waldo and his companions watched the news, they weren’t overly concerned. Even Alanna and Helen, who were overly worried at the beginning, were relieved after a day of comfort from Waldo.
At first, Waldo was worried that the large quantity of condoms he had asked for in the initial infinite supplies wouldn’t have any use. But now it seemed like it was the perfect time to clear out the stock.
After enjoying a few days of blissful time, the chat channel once again became lively. Looking at the content in the chat channel, even Waldo was somewhat stunned. The news was just too sensational.
[Chat Channel]
Number 845343: Breaking news! Lock onto Doomsday Platform 52888’s live broadcast to witness a large team resisting the meteor shower! The power of the meteor shower is evident.
Waldo was somewhat skeptical. Even with such abundant resources, he wouldn’t dare to boast about resisting the meteor shower.
Now, there’s a live stream?
Are you sure it’s not a scam?
But humans are curious by nature. Despite not fully believing, Waldo couldn’t help but search for the live broadcast on platform 52888.
Currently, the broadcast hasn’t started yet, but many survivors are discussing inside.
Number 735443: Why hasn’t it started yet? I want to see how they resist the meteor shower.
Number 934242: Maybe the streamer is a fraud, too scared to show up, haha!
Number 724243: Hurry up and start the broadcast. If you really can resist the meteor shower, I’ll reward you with supplies!
It was apparent that most of the survivors didn’t believe that the broadcaster in this channel had the capability to resist the meteor shower.
Soon, the live broadcast was connected.
The first thing that appeared on the screen was a bald head.
Then, the camera angle was adjusted, and the bald head moved away to reveal the person’s identity.
Waldo was stunned. Wasn’t this Saturn team’s leader, Leland? They can resist the meteor shower?
Leland spoke to the camera in the live stream: "Welcome, everyone, to my live broadcast. Today, I will show you how we resist the meteor shower!"
However, most of the comments were skeptical.
Number 642333: It’s a scam, how are you going to resist? Body slam the meteors?
Number 972634: Just looking for attention?
Leland looked at the comments without getting angry. He grinned and took out a set of protective clothing.
"What do you all see here? This is a damn protective suit! It can withstand high temperatures and radiation!"
After that, all the members of Saturn put on protective suits.
Waldo finally understood why Leland dared to boast. It turned out they somehow acquired protective suits from somewhere. These suits were not available on the trading platform, so they must have collected them on their own.
But how can they resist the meteors?
Leland took the camera and walked out of the underground bunker with the members of Saturn.
"Look, everyone, I’m walking on the ground right now, without any problems! Send some gifts! Don’t just stand there!"
Many survivors were surprised. This was the first time someone had walked out of the underground bunker since the meteor shower started.
Gifts kept pouring in.
That was what Leland wanted. Saturn was lucky enough to obtain a batch of protective suits from the old city area before the meteor shower started.
They waited until the power of the meteors began to show, and then Leland started the live broadcast. The goal was to boost Saturn’s popularity and earn some supplies.
Even for large teams like Saturn, they didn’t have the luxury of not worrying about food and water like Waldo did. Who knew how long the meteor shower would last, and the damned system didn’t provide clear instructions.
Continuing like this, Saturn’s supplies might not last long, especially with so many members to support. In the past, they survived by fighting. But now, they couldn’t go out to collect supplies, and sitting around eating was a quick way to exhaust their resources.
So, Basil came up with the plan for a live broadcast.
Making money was understandable!
Next, we’re going to resist the meteors directly on the ground.
Leland continued, "We plan to use S-alloy and concrete to build—"
He didn’t even finish his sentence.
Boom!
The live broadcast suddenly went black, showing a message:
[The broadcaster is not currently in the live stream. You can check the following recorded broadcasts.]
