Chapter 131: Burrow

Just at this moment, Waldo suddenly received an alert.

"Dear survivor, intrusion detected on the outer side of the underground bunker!"

"Warning! Warning!"

"Unable to stop the breach of defense!"

Anomalous situation occurred, and the system frantically sent warnings to Waldo.

A series of messages made Waldo frown. How could the underground bunker be under attack? Meteor shower couldn’t possibly reach the underground. If it could, then what’s the point of having an underground bunker? It might as well have been an underground grave.

Although Waldo didn’t have much affection for the doomsday world system, he couldn’t deny its accuracy. If it claimed the bunker could withstand meteor showers, then it must be able to! So, the current attack must be something else.

Despite the tightly closed entrance of the underground bunker, several survivors had managed to get inside. They emitted a yellowish glow, and the leader of the group, a man at the front, caught Waldo’s attention.

Waldo coldly looked at these unexpected guests. This was not a good sign; anyone appearing in someone else’s place during this time was most likely not a good person.

In the midst of all the chaos, the strangers’ leader looked around and couldn’t hide his excitement upon seeing the luxurious setup of the high-level underground bunker. He licked his lips in anticipation, "Tsk tsk, seems like we’ve stumbled upon a big fat sheep!"

When all the survivors who were capable of living in an underground bunker began defending against the meteor shower, rumors began to circulate. It was said that during the night, terrifying mutated creatures would emerge from the underground. Some said they were giant worms, others thought they were armadillos. Either way, these creatures could freely roam underground and easily break through bunkers made of S alloy and other materials, mercilessly killing survivors and plundering resources.

At first, many survivors didn’t believe it. They thought it was just some bored survivors making up scary stories to frighten others. The chat channels were filled with dismissive comments.

Quin: "Haha, we are all adults here. Who would believe such scary stories?"

Aldric: "Exactly, breaking through underground bunkers? Even bullets can’t penetrate them, let alone mutated creatures!"

Marsh: "Who believes it must be an idiot!"

However, in the following days, several teams were wiped out completely. That’s when the survivors began to feel uneasy. Because those creatures were not mutated monsters, but a team of survivors.

A team that could move freely underground!

Originally, nobody knew about this. After all, each underground bunker was not connected to the others. If all the survivors in a bunker were killed, nobody would know until it was discovered, and by then, it could be too late.

The revelation came from the sole survivor of one of the teams. It wasn’t that he was particularly skilled, but rather that the underground attackers had deliberately spared him, leaving him alive as a witness. This survivor recounted the massacre on the chat channels.

Ralph: "This team was well-equipped, and their leader could burrow underground at any time. He must have awakened some special power. Our team wasn’t big, but we had decent equipment. Yet, we were caught off guard. As soon as we opened fire, they burrowed underground. When we relaxed our guard, they emerged from the walls behind us. It was like dealing with ghosts, impossible to defend against."

With a firsthand witness revealing the truth, everyone became anxious. A team that could burrow underground, if they struck at night while everyone was asleep, how would they react?

Bradl: "Damn, I’m getting nervous! There’s no way to stop them! If that team sets their sights on us, won’t we be slaughtered like lambs?!"

Cole: "Yeah, this is too scary. It’s one thing if they were mutated creatures, but survivors who can go underground? How do we deal with that!"

Just when the news broke out, the attackers, who had been lurking in the shadows, quietly observed the survivors’ reactions. This was the reason they left a survivor alive as a witness - to see how everyone would react.

That was also why they leaked their location.

Seeing the fearful reactions of the other survivors was delightful for them.

It seemed like all these cowards were terrified!

The leader of the attackers, Spike, had a rune on his forehead, and only one eye. Listening to his subordinates, he couldn’t help but smile, "Good, the arrival of the meteor shower is a great opportunity for us. All of them staying in their underground bunkers are like treasure chests that can’t move!"

One of the bald subordinates asked, "Boss, do we have a plan?"

Spike looked at him and smiled confidently, "Do we need a plan? Isn’t it wherever we go, the bunkers are destroyed?"

Everyone cheered in agreement.

"Our boss is powerful!"

Spike was ecstatic and laughed heartily.

However, there were some teams that believed they were strong enough. They looked at the resources these teams had seized over the past few days, and their eyes became envious.

This was a significant amount of resources.

Combined, it was truly a tempting prize.

One such team, in the chat channel, openly challenged the burrowing team.

Schwart: "To those bastards who can move freely underground, listen up! Our Battle Armor Team formally declares war on you! You despicable cowards dare to bully smaller teams. I dare you to face us!"

"Do you think you can mess with us?!"

Today, I’m putting my coordinates here. I’ll be waiting for you tonight!

Stanl: "Damn! They actually dare to challenge them head-on!"

Hoyle: "Impressive."

Garret: "How dare they! Out of humanitarian reasons, I suggest they don’t be so rash!"

At this critical moment, some people dared to provoke this underground burrowing team openly. In the eyes of many survivors, they were simply looking for trouble.

The Battle Armor Team made such statements because they were extremely confident in their own strength. They didn’t believe this burrowing group of mice could pose any threat to them.

Thus, they were baiting the enemy.

Exposing the precise coordinates, this burrowing team couldn’t possibly resist the temptation.

The Battle Armor Team analyzed the burrowing team’s habits over the past few days. It seemed that they didn’t have any specific targets. They were probably just wandering around underground, relying on luck to find bunkers to plunder.

Now that the Battle Armor Team had provided their coordinates, wouldn’t the burrowing team take the bait?

There was no way they wouldn’t!

The leader of the Battle Armor Team was full of confidence.

He believed that tonight they would catch a big fish.

However, what they didn’t expect was that they were the big fish themselves.
