Chapter 171: Hunting
Brigham and his two companions seemed to have seen a ghost. They stared in disbelief as Waldo appeared on a distant rooftop.
They were well aware of how much explosive they had placed in the trap they had set, and these explosives were set to detonate in a very short amount of time, leaving no chance for an ordinary person to react, let alone escape.
Even if someone managed to react in time, there would be no way to get away from the scene. So, Waldo had only one fate awaiting him: to be blown to pieces, or at the very least, severely injured.
But how was it possible? How could he be unharmed? Were their eyes deceiving them? What on earth was going on? Was he even human? The three of them were frozen in place, their minds filled with questions. This was all too bizarre. There was no way Waldo could have escaped unscathed.
For some reason, at that moment, a chill began to creep up on them, starting from their feet and rising to their heads.
"Good lord, if I hadn’t reacted quickly and escaped, I might not have made it out of here today!" Waldo watched the three astonished individuals in the distance, a hint of murderous intent gleaming in his eyes.
If he hadn’t reacted in time and used his special ability, "Blink," to escape to a safe distance, he would have met a gruesome end. Anyone else in his place might not have survived.
Brigham and his two companions had come with the intention of killing him, providing false information and laying an ambush here well in advance, all with the goal of ending his life.
And if he were to be killed, not only would his substantial arsenal of weapons and equipment be looted, but Alanna and Helen, the two women with him, could also be in grave danger. The consequences were unimaginable.
At this moment, Waldo’s murderous intent surged, and his eyes turned bloodshot.
"Very well, very well, I was thinking that if you had made a mistake, I would spare your lives. But you have actually tried to kill me. You’re truly seeking death!" Waldo’s voice was cold, and his eyes seemed to overflow with an inexhaustible killing intent. He had never felt such a strong urge to kill before.
"Since you’re seeking death, then go ahead and die!" At this moment, all Waldo wanted was to dismember them all.
"Waldo, Waldo, are you okay?" Alanna and Helen had also seen Waldo in the distance. The deafening explosion from earlier had thrown them into a panic. Surviving such a powerful explosion would be incredibly difficult.
Did Waldo have any chance of survival? The two women were overwhelmed with worry, fearing that something had happened to him. For them, if anything were to happen to Waldo, it would be a catastrophic blow.
After all, Waldo was their only reliance. Upon careful consideration, it was reasonable to believe that Waldo could survive.
From start to finish, there had been too many inexplicable aspects to him, too much mystery. It could be said that if Waldo couldn’t survive, then no one in this world could.
"I’m fine, don’t worry," Waldo replied immediately, knowing that the two women must be extremely concerned. To alleviate their worries, he responded promptly. Although they had guessed that Waldo was unharmed, hearing him say it with their own ears was a relief.
"What was that explosion just now? Did Brigham and the others catch you?" Alanna asked. "Yeah, what caused that explosion?" Helen added. Because of the angle, they had not yet seen Brigham, Blake, and Tommy.
"I was ambushed, but don’t worry, I’m going to pay them a visit now," Waldo replied shortly. He couldn’t wait any longer; he had to dismember the three of them. If there had been a possibility of reconciliation before, now they were in a no-holds-barred situation. "Die for me!"
At this moment, his murderous intent reached its peak. In the next instant, Waldo moved. His figure disappeared from its original location and appeared over thirty meters away.
"Not good! That’s the real Waldo! Run!" Brigham’s group was terrified. They knew they couldn’t possibly match Waldo. His level alone, being over thirty, would crush all three of them.
Plus, Waldo had a tank. If they couldn’t kill him even by ambushing him, there was no way they could win in a direct confrontation. So, the three of them made a unanimous decision: run. They were all around level fifteen, and they were fast.
They didn’t believe Waldo could catch all of them. Brigham ran into an alley, Blake dashed down the main road at an astonishing speed, and Tommy entered a large building, trying to use the complex terrain to play a game of hide-and-seek with Waldo.
"Run? Where do you think you can run to?" Waldo’s eyes were ice-cold as he watched the three of them scatter in different directions. He was confident that he could catch them all. They would pay a heavy price for their earlier actions.
Then, without further thought, Waldo chose his first target: Brigham. He had a stronger resentment towards Brigham compared to the other two, he strongly suspected that it was Brigham’s idea to assassinate him. So, Brigham had to die first.
"Heh, weren’t you talking big, inviting me to come find you? Well, here I am! Let’s see how long you can keep dancing!" Waldo snorted coldly and continued to use "Blink" to move at an incredible speed, closing the distance between them in the blink of an eye.
And [Blink] only takes one second to cast again. So, his speed became extremely fast! At this moment, Brigham was running for his life. At this moment, he envied Blake’s ability to escape. Running fast increased his chances of survival.
However, he couldn’t match Blake’s speed. So, he squeezed into a narrow alley, hoping to use the complex streets to evade Waldo’s pursuit. Moreover, it was now dark, and the alley was dimly lit. Therefore, he had a good chance of escaping.
"Heh, you think you can kill me that easily? Let’s see if you have what it takes!" Brigham sneered, but he didn’t slow down his escape. In fact, there was a hint of urgency on his face. For some reason, his heart was pounding rapidly, and a sense of unease was slowly creeping in and lingering.
He hadn’t run for long before he suddenly came to a halt. He looked up and saw a figure not far ahead, standing there. The eyes were cold, filled with a surging killing intent.
"How is this possible? How did he get ahead of me?" Brigham felt like he was seeing a ghost. He knew the area well, and there was no shortcut that could lead someone to get ahead of him. So, he found it incredible.
"Run!" Brigham didn’t intend to fight Waldo. He turned and fled. The intense cold he had felt earlier had been like a knife cutting through his skin, almost giving him a heart attack.
Only when he faced Waldo did he truly understand how powerful Waldo was. He felt a suffocating sensation.
"Run? Is it possible?" Waldo sneered. Then, he disappeared from his original position. Under his ability, Blink, there was no escape for anyone. Soon, Waldo caught up with Brigham.
"Are you Brigham? Heh, you were inviting me to come find you, weren’t you?" Waldo sneered continuously. Then, a critical hit warrior’s sword appeared in his hand, and he lunged at Brigham. In an instant, he appeared not far from Brigham.
Facing this deadly threat, Brigham’s face showed a touch of determination. He used his ability, [Rage].
"Haha, you want to kill me? Come and try if you have the guts!" Brigham roared.
His body rapidly grew muscles, and he became much taller. His thin arms became thick and strong, and his muscles covered every part of his body. This was Brigham’s ability, [Rage], which doubled his physical attributes. This transformation made him capable of resisting small-caliber bullets.
"Can you, with this level of power, kill me?" Brigham sneered. But then, he suddenly widened his eyes, looking shocked and incredulous.
Waldo had appeared in front of him without him even noticing, and a cold light was swiftly approaching him. The speed was astonishing. Brigham’s mind went blank. He couldn’t react to anything.
"Thud!" Accompanied by this sound, Brigham suddenly felt everything spinning. Finally, he fell to the ground. Then, he saw his body still standing where it had been but missing a head, spewing blood.
"Am I dead?" This was Brigham’s last thought. His eyes were wide open, filled with shock and disbelief, forever fixed on the cold light that had struck him. He had never dreamt that he would die so swiftly and definitively. He hadn’t even had the chance to see Waldo clearly before dying by his hand.
Killing Brigham was effortless for Waldo. Although Brigham had used his ability, the overall difference in strength was too great to bridge. So, Waldo’s goal of killing Brigham was as simple as squashing an ant.
"You’re just the first one! The other two won’t escape either!" Waldo said coldly. He quickly left the scene and appeared on top of a tall building, overlooking a large part of the city. He could see Blake sprinting down the main road. Blake was very fast; in this short time, he had already run two kilometers.
However, no matter how fast he was, could he outrun bullets? Waldo sneered, and then, he pulled out a M200 sniper rifle. It was the world’s longest-range and most accurate sniper rifle, with undeniable power. Flesh and blood couldn’t withstand its damage.
"Die, this is the price of challenging me!" Waldo aimed and fired. A shot precisely flew towards the sprinting Blake. Luckily, he went to chase Brigham! Brigham was probably unable to escape, but he could at least slow down Waldo briefly.
With this time, Blake would have enough to escape! Blake was very relieved. He had turned around to look back earlier and saw Waldo chasing Brigham, which made him overjoyed.
As long as he could delay Waldo for two or three minutes, with his astonishing speed, he would have disappeared long ago. At that time, he would have saved his life.
"This Waldo is really something else, far beyond our estimates. He survived such a massive explosion; it’s truly incredible!" Thinking about Waldo, especially the eye contact they had before, still gave him the creeps.
Suddenly, he seemed to have a premonition and looked back.
"Damn it! How did he appear so quickly? Did Brigham die?!" This sudden glance shocked him.
His eyelids were twitching incessantly. He actually saw Waldo on top of a building! How could this be possible? Brigham was supposed to be quite powerful. Even if Waldo was strong, he should have put up some resistance.
At the very least, he should have held out for a minute or two.
Blake couldn’t accept it for a moment.
It was clear that he had underestimated Waldo’s strength.
