Chapter 182: Strategy

Watching the body of the third-level zombie on the ground, Waldo didn’t hesitate. He immediately found a soybean-sized source stone from its head.

"One point of evolution value in hand, and after hunting down eight more third-level zombies, I can choose to evolve an ability," Waldo thought to himself, excitement filling his heart as he stowed away the source stone.

Alanna and Helen’s battles were still ongoing. The numbers of second-level zombies and regular zombies were too many, reaching several hundred, and couldn’t be resolved in a short time. Waldo couldn’t leave them unattended.

He quickly moved forward to assist them in dispatching the zombies. He brought out the flamethrower again and unleashed a fire dragon.

Simultaneously, he used his ability, Fire Control, to enlarge the fire dragon several times, turning it into a terrifying creature nearly fifty meters long. Its power had already been demonstrated earlier.

Waldo controlled the fire dragon, and it instantly devoured hundreds of zombies. The flames consumed them, and in no time, all the zombies on that street were eradicated. It didn’t take long to deal with the remaining zombies either.

The entire process took less than thirty minutes. Helen, drenched in sweat, her clothes nearly soaked, approached Waldo.

"Waldo, how’s it going?"

"Good, I killed that third-level zombie and got a source stone!" Waldo replied with a smile.

"That’s great! We just need to kill eight more third-level zombies to accumulate ten evolution points. By then, you can evolve your ability!" Alanna said happily.

Waldo, however, shook his head. "It’s not that simple. We can’t rush this. We’ll take it slow. But it shouldn’t take too long."

Afterward, the three of them found a relatively safe shelter and settled down for the night. They decided to rest here for the night and continue their actions the next day. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

After all, they had gone through a day of battle, and each of them had killed hundreds of zombies. Especially Waldo, who had killed over a thousand zombies. The high-intensity slaughter had consumed a great deal of their energy and stamina.

Rest was necessary. Soon, three days had passed!

Over the course of these three days, Waldo had successfully taken down five third-level zombies, acquiring five source stones, which equated to five evolution points.

Three days later, at their makeshift shelter, Waldo, Alanna, and Helen gathered to discuss their next steps.

"I only need three more evolution points, and then I can upgrade my ability," Waldo said, his spirits high.

He began to daydream about what his evolved ability would be like. However, at the moment, he wasn’t entirely sure which one he would upgrade—Teleportation, Fire Control, or Invisibility. But he decided not to dwell on it for now and instead focused on collecting source stones.

"I feel like we’re gathering source stones too slowly. We’re only getting an average of two source stones per day, and that’s not good enough," Waldo frowned.

What bothered him the most at the moment was the slow pace of hunting third-level zombies. Their strength made them difficult targets, and they often commanded hordes of thousands of zombies, which posed a significant challenge.

Killing a third-level zombie was an exhausting endeavor, and managing to hunt two in a single day was considered a great accomplishment.

Yesterday, Waldo had managed to hunt only one third-level zombie. During his attempt at the second one, he made a mistake that allowed it to escape.

Alanna nodded in agreement, sharing his frustration. "Indeed, upgrading an ability from level one to two requires ten evolution points, which means we need to kill ten third-level zombies. At our current rate of hunting them, it’s just not sufficient."

Helen sighed. "But we can’t help it. It won’t be long before other survivors come to West City, and that will increase the difficulty of hunting third-level zombies."

Waldo nodded in agreement. "By then, the presence of other survivors will indeed make it harder for us to hunt these zombies. Plus, as time goes on, third-level zombies will continue to evolve and become more powerful, making them even harder to kill."

"We need to come up with a better strategy," he concluded.

The two women nodded in agreement, and the three of them began to contemplate their options.

Before long, they all began to share their thoughts and ideas.

Suddenly, Helen had a bright idea and said, "Waldo, don’t we have a rocket launcher and a mortar?"

Waldo paused for a moment and replied, "Yes, we do. What’s your idea? It’s usually hard to hit third-level zombies with regular projectiles, and in a city with so many buildings, these weapons are not very practical."

He had considered using the rocket launcher and mortar before. After all, they could be used to eliminate a large number of zombies. However, in a city with tall buildings, these weapons were not very effective.

Helen insisted, "They can be useful, trust me."

Intrigued by her confidence, Waldo asked, "Do you have a plan? If you come up with a good one, I’ll be sure to reward you tonight."

Helen blushed deeply.

"What is Waldo talking about? We’re discussing important matters right now," she thought, feeling a bit flustered.

Helen glared at Waldo, clearly irritated.

"I think that if we can’t eliminate them within the city, why don’t we lure them to an open area? Then, we can use rockets, artillery shells, and explosives as much as we want," Helen explained.

Waldo pondered her idea for a moment and his eyes lit up. "Why didn’t I think of that! That’s a great idea!"

He felt a surge of excitement. "Let’s lure them to an open area. We have plenty of military equipment, and zombies are easily attracted to noise. Once they’re gathered, we can take them down all at once. This method is efficient!"

Helen’s plan seemed feasible. They had enough ammunition, zombies were easily attracted to noise, and leading them to an open area made sense.

Waldo was enthusiastic. "This is a brilliant plan! We can take down several third-level zombies at once, which will save us a lot of effort. Helen, I promise to reward you properly tonight!"

Waldo was filled with energy as he imagined the day when he could upgrade his ability. This method would significantly increase the speed at which they acquired evolution points.

Alanna, feeling left out, asked with a hint of annoyance, "Why are you only rewarding Helen? What about me?"

Waldo chuckled and replied, "Of course, you too! Tonight, I’ll make sure both of you love me to death!"

Waldo’s excitement was infectious, and the three of them were now fully motivated to implement their plan.
