Apocalypse - Infinite Resource System
Chapter 98: Destroyed the drone
Sheriff remained silent, staring intently at the real-time footage transmitted by the drone.
The others didn’t dare to say anything either, pretending that nothing had happened.
In the video, Waldo took a step forward and hugged Alanna, tickling her waist, making her giggle non-stop.
Helen watched with amusement from the side, covering her mouth and chuckling.
At this moment, she seemed to hear some strange sounds. It wasn’t the mechanical noise from the barbecue grill; it sounded more like the sound of propellers.
Helen quickly looked up at the sky and saw the drone sent by the police station.
Oh no!
The people from the police station were horrified.
They hadn’t expected to be exposed.
Was it because the drone was flying too low?!
Helen had the same thought and hurriedly called out to Waldo.
"Waldo, look up at the sky!"
Waldo was having too much fun to pay attention.
Without even looking up, he said, "Hey, I don’t believe it! My mom always said not to trust beautiful women’s words!"
Helen didn’t care about Waldo’s compliment and ran in front of him, holding his shoulders with both hands and guiding his gaze upward.
Waldo’s playful smile vanished instantly.
In that moment, he thought of many things. This drone wouldn’t fly over for no reason; there must be someone coming to gather intelligence.
But more importantly, they had exposed their true identities.
Was it Sheriff?
Waldo had reason to suspect so.
With all the things that had happened before, it was clearly related to the police station.
Add to that Sheriff’s threatening message in the private chat.
Waldo could even confirm that this drone was sent by the police station.
He waved at the drone and shouted loudly, "Sheriff, long time no see, I hope you are well!"
The drone that was about to fly away stopped.
Sheriff pressed Scorpion’s hand, preventing him from controlling the drone to fly away and keeping it in its original position.
Since they were already exposed, there was no need to hide anymore.
Seeing the drone hovering in place, Waldo became even more certain that it was sent by the police station.
And it could transmit real-time footage?
Otherwise, why would it stop when it heard his voice?
So, was Sheriff watching him?
Waldo laughed.
He casually picked up a skewer and handed it into the air.
"Sheriff, would you like some barbecue? Oh, I forgot, you can’t have any. This is the barbecue grill I exchanged with a large water purifier. Speaking of which, I have to thank you, haha!"
Sheriff looked at Waldo with a nonchalant expression.
In secret, he was already gripping the armrest tightly.
Waldo took a bite of the grilled meat and enjoyed it. Then he said, "Sheriff, peeking at someone’s home, isn’t that too careless of you? I could let it slide, but what if my two companions were taking a bath or changing clothes? How should we settle that score?"
Sheriff couldn’t reply.
So, Waldo continued to talk to himself, "How about this? You owe me some emotional damages compensation. How about a few hundred S-alloy as compensation?"
Sheriff couldn’t speak, but he snorted and sneered in response to these words.
However, what Waldo said next infuriated him even more.
"If you can’t come up with S-alloy, then how about this, Sheriff? How about using your head to compensate?"
Waldo chuckled and pulled out a pistol, aiming it at the drone.
"Goodbye!"
Waldo shot down the drone, which emitted black smoke as it fell straight into the courtyard.
Then, like throwing away garbage, it flew out of the fenced area and crashed onto the road in the villa area.
Alanna looked worried.
"Waldo, what do we do now?"
Waldo was helpless too.
Now that the true identities of the three had been exposed, there was no way around it. However, Helen spoke up at this moment, "Our identities being exposed doesn’t have a significant impact, to be honest. The police station and us will inevitably have a showdown; it’s just a matter of time before we cross paths. Besides, the drone that we destroyed was likely only viewed by the core members of the police station, not everyone."
Waldo also felt relieved. "You’re right. Without Helen’s reminder, I would have been a bit lost. Whether our true identities are exposed or not, it’s not that important in the end. Anyway, we and the police station are destined to be enemies until one of us is defeated."
After saying that, Waldo rubbed his chin. "It seems like the police station will come for us soon, so we need to be prepared. This time, they will definitely come in full force. I can’t be sure if they have other advanced weapons and equipment. And I can’t just abandon the shelter I worked so hard to build and run away with Alanna and Helen!"
Alanna asked, "Waldo, what do you plan to do?"
Waldo pursed his lips and finally said, "Inspect the Energy Shield, ensure the automatic defense weapon systems have enough ammunition, and then wait and see what happens."
Helen sighed, "I guess that’s the only option we have. There’s really no other plan."
The three of them lost interest in continuing the barbecue. After hastily filling their stomachs, they cleaned up the barbecue grill and tidied up the balcony. Then, they started arranging the defensive devices around the villa.
Since the drone was shot down, the police station couldn’t observe Waldo’s side anymore. The footage they saw earlier didn’t provide much useful information, and they didn’t have time to check other areas.
The expensive drone crash only resulted in such useless information; it was a huge waste.
However, they could take comfort in finally seeing Waldo’s true face. Although Sheriff had a rough idea of Waldo’s approximate age before, seeing Waldo’s actual appearance still made him marvel. To possess such maturity at such a young age, he truly had the charisma Sheriff had during his prime.
Sheriff could even conclude that with some time to grow, Waldo would definitely stir up the world in this post-apocalyptic era. The thought of being able to personally extinguish such a rising star excited Sheriff.
When he was a mercenary, he encountered countless rebellious individuals and geniuses. Fighting ten against one or hacking into the FBI’s mainframe computer were all child’s play to him. But in the end, he never heard any news about those supposed geniuses in the mercenary circle. The reason was simple - Sheriff took advantage of their immaturity and eliminated them all.
So, he admired Waldo, but he didn’t think 10086 could leave his villa alive. If he packed his bags now and fled throughout the post-apocalyptic world, he might be able to survive. But Sheriff didn’t believe that would happen. Waldo was not the type to fear death; otherwise, he wouldn’t have dared to snatch food from the jaws of the police station, Saturn, and Drug Lord.
From Sheriff’s perspective, Waldo’s fate would likely be the same as those so-called prodigious newcomers from years ago. 10086, you will soon pay the price for your actions.
Sheriff extended his finger and lightly tapped the armrest of his seat. "You have chosen the path of no return by provoking me. There’s only a dead end for you!"
