Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 276: Normal Life
Others glanced at Anite with a subtle look on their faces. Because of the turtle zombie, the majority of them suffered heavy injuries. It will be hard for them to walk on foot.
The two girls didn’t join the fight. Hence, they only had a few scratches and light injuries on them.
Azir had a look of disapproval. However, before he could open his mouth, Zerra spoke first, "Alright, then lead the way."
"Ze–" he immediately closed his mouth when he saw the look in her eyes.
"Is there a road heading to the base? Can it fit a car?" She didn’t mind. If they stayed in the open, someone needed to keep night watch while the other rested. It was better to push a little more.
Of course, there was a condition that they should use cars. Some of them could still manage driving.
"Yes, yes, do you have a car, Miss?" Anita’s eyes lit up.
With that, Zerra took two ordinary cars from her inner space. Mateo could still drive, so he became the driver while Anita took over the other car.
In an hour, they finally arrived at the base. Anita seemed to know the people guarding at the front gate, so they could get in easily.
The base was as big as Mr. Davis’ base, but they weren’t as strict. There was no registration, just some check up. Since most of them were injured, they were assigned their own room for a period of observation.
No base would risk letting an infected person mingling around.
It took around two days before they could finally get out of the observation room. No one showed symptoms of zombie transformation, only injury. Because there was a wood ability user who treated them, they recovered faster.
However, the main reason they could exit the observation room so soon was mainly because of Anita. She knew some people in charge of the base.
Mateo’s people suffered severe injuries, so they were moved to another hospital room. Meanwhile, Zerra and Cassias recovered surprisingly fast.
Anita smiled at the two, which appeared a little forced. A trace of gloom was still visible on her brows from her companion’s death. Her relationship with Alex seemed to have gone further than a mere friendship.
"How are you, Zerra, Cassias?" She asked, a little perfunctorily.
"We are fine." Zerra nodded at her in acknowledgement.
"I have reported your names, so you can go get a room of your own since you two are ability users." She paused. "There is only one big room available now, and you have to share with your other people later."
The base seemed to be worried they might suddenly become zombies, so they let Zerra’s group get one room for all members. They didn’t mind since it would make things more convenient to do things.
Zerra nodded as Anita led her to their room. Anita was a little distracted the entire time, but she still made an effort to converse with them.
She asked some minor details like where they were going or where they had come from, anything just to keep the conversation going.
"Oh, you are looking for your parents, Miss Zerra?" Anita sounded surprised. Her face was a little sour, yet she still thanked them. "Thanks to you and your group who passed by, we were saved."
"If you are looking for your parents, you can describe their characteristics to us. They might be among the people living in the base. Or in case they are not here, we can let you know in case someone spotted them," she explained.
"Thank you." Zerra bit her lip, wearing a solemn face.
Since her parents had recovered, she wanted to have them assume their identities as humans again. It would make things more convenient.
Cassias was a bit silent when she first asked his opinion about it, but the next day, he supported her and was even very enthusiastic, bringing the topic to her parents first before she could mention it to them.
Zerra didn’t mind. She was relieved he helped her with it. Surprisingly, her parents were even very happy with the plan. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
She became a little guilty then. They might have wanted to live normally for a while, but because they couldn’t find a suitable environment and situation, they didn’t bring it up for fear it would make her troubled.
After all, they were in the middle of nowhere, so it was hard to bring them into the team without making others suspicious of their sudden presence.
Now, it was the most suitable time to get her parents to live a normal life.
She would release her parents from the space and look for them later. She had decided to take some mission from the base as an excuse to go out.
"Zerra, you are going out?" Azir pursed his lips. It was clear he wanted to join but he couldn’t because of his injuries.
"Yes, you stay here." In the end, only Mateo joined them.
The three of them left the base soon after. Cassias warned Mateo, "We will stay outside for a few days."
Mateo had heard of Zerra’s parents, so he didn’t object to the arrangements. He nodded and asked rhetorically to Zerra, "You are looking for your parents?"
This time, the mission didn’t seem hard. They just needed to scout a marked area where a team had most likely died there. If possible, they also needed to retrieve a certain item.
On the first night, they built a tent. Although the base only let them scout the place, their target was retrieving the item.
The next day, they scouted the place, yet they still didn’t find any traces of the missing team. However, a large number of zombies swarmed toward them.
As well as mutated zombie animals.
Zerra sensed yet another strangeness. The area was quite eerie. Abandoned buildings filled with dust and mutated plants were everywhere. It was like they had entered a dead city.
When they fought against the zombie, she sensed a faint tugging in her consciousness. Something seemed to be commanding the zombies. She just couldn’t spot the source.
On the third day, they made a scene of a daughter reuniting with her parents. Even Mateo was a little dumbfounded at the scene.
"Mr. and Mrs. Sylvaris," he greeted the blood soaked pair.
They looked a bit too young to be Zerra’s parents.
