Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 275: Turtle Zombie
"Monster?" Mateo and his people exchanged solemn gaze and prepared themselves for a fight.
Every battle they had gone through sharpened their fighting skills, but they also got a lot of injuries. Every injury was troublesome so they preferred killing the zombies or other mutants as soon as possible.
Azir stood beside Zerra, furrowing his brows at the incoming people.
"Anita!" Before long, Ashley cried out in surprise when she spotted one of the two people.
They were a pair of girls. Soon, another man emerged from behind them, bloodied and battered. Although the girls were also injured, their injuries were far less severe than him whose hand had lung limp and his cheeks torn.
Following the man was a strange-looking monster. It resembled a turtle, but on its turtle shell, there were numerous jagged protrusions.
The two girls looked behind them while casting a pleading gaze at Zerra’s party, asking them to save their companion. However, everything happened so quickly.
The turtle opened its gigantic mouth. The man who was falling behind couldn’t evade in time and was swallowed. Soon, hair rising bone-crunching sounds followed.
"Alex!" The two girls paled, rooting on the spot.
It didn’t take long for the turtle to swallow its prey. Only less than a minute passed. Zerra’s group recovered from their shock and became vigilant.
The other girl, Anita, was quick to act. She dragged her stunned companion toward Zerra and others, and asked pleadingly, "Please, help..."
Just as the turtle was about to open its mouth and swallow them, Zerra took her pitchfork and tossed it toward the turtle. The weapon, which rarely appeared recently, was impaled in the turtle’s head.
The turtle didn’t show any sign of stopping. The pitchfork only held it back for a moment, as if it didn’t feel any pain at all.
Everyone who knew about Zerra’s strength sucked in a deep breath, realizing they had met a formidable opponent.
"Is this a zombie beast...?" Norman’s face grew serious. He took a brief glance at his girlfriend who already used her quick speed to drag the other two girls to their side.
Zerra scanned the turtle’s power with her senses. She was briefly stunned before she turned to Cassias, the expressions on their faces mirrored each others’ thoughts.
There was something unusual with this turtle.
Along the way, they had also encountered mutated animals which had turned into zombies. So far, this one was the strongest.
"Do you feel that this zombie beast is strange?" She asked Cassias, communicating internally.
"Let’s analyze this thing," he decided. Analyzing means fighting the zombie beast! Their conversation happened for a split second.
By the next second, they were already engaged in a fight with the zombie turtle.
The two girls were currently still shaken, crying over their fallen companion. Anita stared at the fight between Zerra’s group and the turtle unblinkingly, but her eyes were filled with tears and fears.
"Will they be alright?" Anita took a deep breath, pursing her lips. "This monster is very strong. Our friend, Alex, held the turtle back for us, but he..." she trailed off.
"When we fought it, nothing can inflict even the slightest injury to the turtle," the other girl sobbed. "It had followed us for hours. No matter where we hid, it always found us."
The girl wanted to suggest they should just run, but when she saw the pitchfork on the turtle’s head, it gave her hope.
"Let’s just observe from here." Ashley assured them. "Miss Zerra and Mr. Cassias are very strong."
Anita wanted to say something, but eventually she bit her lip and held it back. If she said it, it might not do her any good. She lowered her eyes, falling into a daze and silently mourned over Alex.
The fight took a very long time. Even until the sky darkened, the turtle was still going strong. At this point, Ashley had even joined the fight and currently was resting because of injuries.
"If anyone is injured, just stay back." Zerra told them. She didn’t want anyone insisting on joining the battle and needed others to save them if they fell into a precarious situation.
Gradually, as the night fell, only she and Cassias were still fighting the zombie turtle. She tried to control it to no avail. The rebound force nearly knocked her off balance; she felt a stinging pain in her head.
She hissed and frowned at the turtle. The more she inspected it, the more strange it became.
The others didn’t slack off either. The turtle would target them. If they relaxed and became oblivious at the incoming attack, it would be dangerous. They still needed to drag their injured bodies away from the battlefield that was not fixed in one area.
Slowly, even the others who were resting because of injuries became mentally exhausted.
Zerra was only a little tired. Their purpose was to inspect the turtle zombie to determine something, so they delayed it a bit from delivering killing blows on the turtle.
When the night became deeper, she and Cassias finally killed the turtle with some difficulty.
"It’s still hard to determine it from one case. Might be a coincidence," she muttered to Cassias, the only person who would understand what she was talking about.
Cassias nodded in agreement. "We can’t rule out the possibility that the turtle was a demon who practiced immortal cultivation before."
The turtle had traces of spiritual energy in its body. Its shell was very hard, and it looked very old. Even both of them needed a lot of attempts before they could finally crack the turtle shell open.
"Are you two alright?" Azir immediately ran toward the two, his gaze filled with astonishment and worry.
She and Cassias didn’t know how many people had power similar to their current level. Because they had the advantage of spiritual energy and the celestial bloodline. However, they still didn’t want to flaunt it openly.
The person who had come to Jack’s residential area was still in hiding. They didn’t want to be the ones out in the open by revealing their trump cards out. So, even if they weren’t injured, they still made themselves look battered and full of blood.
"We will rest here tonight," Zerra decided.
Anita suddenly spoke up. "The base isn’t that far from here. Why don’t we go there? It will only take a few hours by foot."
