Jane Sampson shook her head at James Black with an enigmatic expression, "This matter is a long story, you wouldn’t understand."

James Black’s lips twitched slightly, was there really a long story that he didn’t understand?

That was really strange.

After all, Jane Sampson rarely kept anything from him.

"What’s that expression?" Jane Sampson glanced at James Black’s face, poked his cheek with her hand. At this moment, if she had a tail, it would surely be wagging proudly. "I’m not telling you."

James Black responded with a hum and didn’t pursue the matter further. He drove back to the shop where they had previously bought dessert to pick up the items that were paid for, and then returned home.

As they entered, Jane Sampson took the sweet slices from James Black’s hand, carrying them all the way to the living room, hopping along and humming a song. She seemed extremely pleased.

James Black closed the door behind him, and as he turned around, she was already sitting on the sofa and unboxing the packaging.

"What do you want for dinner tonight?" James Black walked up to her and stood there asking.

Jane Sampson thought for a moment and replied, "Anything."

Then she took out a white fatty, opened it, nibbled at it, savoring it with a satisfied and content expression.

"How about some noodle soup then?" James Black saw that Jane Sampson clearly didn’t feel like cooking, and it was the only thing he was good at.

But as soon as he spoke, the person who said "anything" quickly looked up at him.

A few seconds later, she decisively shook her head and firmly said, "No."

"No, then are you going to cook?" James Black looked at Jane Sampson’s gaze and knew she was secretly mocking him again.

Once he saw Jane Sampson nod in agreement, James Black then turned around and headed to the kitchen to start steaming the rice.

Because it was almost time for a meal, Jane Sampson didn’t eat much more, and while James Black was still in the kitchen, she took the remaining dessert and placed it in the refrigerator.

Upon entering, she found James Black washing vegetables.

She hid her two hands in her pockets, stood next to James Black, curiously watching him work, and praised him, "Really diligent."

James Black turned his head to look at her hidden hands, smiled silently, and replied, "Really good."

He praised her for knowing not to eat too many snacks before dinner.

Jane Sampson was thinking in her head about how to respond when her mobile phone suddenly rang.

It was Brooke Black calling her.

"You’re cooking dinner, right? Make more, I’m coming over to eat tonight and discuss something with both of you." Brooke Black spoke without reservation.

"Is uncle-in-law coming?" Jane Sampson asked as she opened the refrigerator, searched around, and took out a few vegetables, placing them in the washbasin in front of James Black.

"He has socializing tonight. Old Sir is also dining out with friends this evening." Brooke Black explained, and if it weren’t for Old Sir’s plans tonight, she wouldn’t have left him home alone to go to Jane Sampson’s.

Jane Sampson agreed, thinking that Brooke might be bringing something over for her.

With Brooke joining them in the evening, Jane Sampson didn’t hide her little hands in her pockets anymore after hanging up the call. She squeezed next to James Black and helped wash the vegetables together.

Brooke rarely visited for meals, so even though there would just be three of them, Jane Sampson made a few extra dishes specially.

Brooke drove straight from the company after work. The distance wasn’t very far, and she arrived around 6:30.
