Divine Beast Creator - Chapter 2245 - 2246: The Agreement
Feng Yuan did not respond immediately but silently stared at Captain Yan. After a moment, Feng Yuan turned his head and said,
"You’re right; indeed, I hope it wasn’t them. It would be very troublesome, and also... heartbreaking."
Suspiciously sizing up Feng Yuan, Captain Yan naturally sensed the hidden meaning in Feng Yuan’s words. However, he could not understand why Feng Yuan would express such sentiments; of course, he wouldn’t delve deeply into the underlying issues either.
To him, as long as Feng Yuan was not on their opposing side, there was no need to probe into those secrets.
"But if it really was them, it’s nothing serious. At least it’s better than suddenly having a third-party force causing trouble, isn’t it?"
Spreading his hands, Feng Yuan feigned nonchalance and said, as Captain Yan pondered for a moment,
"We can only report this matter, but I can’t guarantee that we can help you because this matter has already exceeded our abilities."
Captain Yan would not arrogantly think that the Maomu Special Service Team has the capability to investigate things even the Divine Beasts couldn’t clarify.
Looking at Feng Yuan, Captain Yan slowly spoke,
"You already have suspicious targets; why can’t you verify them?"
In Captain Yan’s view, since Feng Yuan and his team already suspected those people and based on Feng Yuan’s reactions and previous words, he guessed those people might not be entirely hostile towards Feng Yuan and his team. In this situation, Feng Yuan’s team hadn’t directly attempted to get confirmation from them, instead of seeking help from the Maomu Special Service Team, which seemed rather odd.
"Because we can’t find them. Those people hide very well, at least before the anomaly in Kui Shan Town, no one realized there was a group of Mythological Remnants existing."
Shrugging, Feng Yuan explained, and it was indeed the truth. At least before, not even the Divine Beasts imagined such a group of people was hidden away in this world.
Yet, this also left Feng Yuan puzzled. Why did they suddenly emerge despite their good concealment?
Is it because of the investigation into Kui Shan Town? What exactly do they want to achieve?
If the changes in Kui Shan Town are the key to triggering this series of events, then why did they do so initially? Feng Yuan couldn’t understand, nor could he comprehend.
It should be noted that the peculiarities of Kui Shan Town were discovered by Feng Yuan. To other Divine Beasts, the secrets of Kui Shan Town couldn’t draw their attention. In fact, if it weren’t for Feng Yuan, Long Boduo and the others wouldn’t have investigated Kui Shan Town, hence wouldn’t have triggered this sequence of anomalies.
Could it be specifically targeting him?
But how did they ascertain he would definitely investigate these matters and even trigger anomalies?
Feng Yuan received no answers to these doubts and also wouldn’t speak them out loud.
Captain Yan didn’t mind Feng Yuan’s silence. He thought for a moment and said,
"You suspect everything is related to those Mythological Remnants. However, I remember your earlier report mentioned they posed no threat to the safety of the world."
Regarding this point, Captain Yan was curious because that report wasn’t solely issued by Feng Yuan but was acknowledged by Agunas and others. Meaning, there wasn’t the possibility of oversight or ignoring key clues.
This implied that during their investigation, they didn’t obtain complete information. Yet the information they did acquire misled Feng Yuan and his team into thinking they had fully understood.
If it were only Feng Yuan, that would be one thing, but even Divine Beasts, especially the ones representing time, could be misled; Captain Yan couldn’t help but recall Quine’s group of madmen. Could they similarly harbor a crazy plan?
Feng Yuan didn’t expect Captain Yan to think along those lines; he replied without hesitation,
"Back then, the assessment was indeed like so. After all, we never considered there might be internal division or even something more significant among them. It was precisely because of this reason that after gathering intelligence from the Yellow Springs Apostles, we didn’t consider other possibilities."
"Is that so, conflicts in ideology?"
Hearing Feng Yuan’s explanation, Captain Yan contemplated. He wasn’t too shocked by this because if it wasn’t deliberate misleading, then scenarios of this type would typically boil down to a few options, and ideological discord leading to an organizational split is entirely normal.
Moreover, those Mythological Remnants were quite peculiar, at least before the anomaly in Kui Shan Town, they left few obvious traces, making it difficult for them to gain insight into those people.
Though, after Feng Yuan submitted the report, whether it was the Great Xia or the Alliance continued investigating the Mythological Remnants. Unfortunately, due to a severe lack of data, they couldn’t uncover any useful clues.
There was no alternative; even with the help of the Divine Beasts, post-Mythical Era Divine Beasts knew very little about the Mythological Remnants, making it hard for them to learn anything.
As for Agunas?
If anyone expected it to join the investigation teams of the Alliance or the Great Xia, that wasn’t happening. It wasn’t due to objections against them, but simply because Agunas found it troublesome.
In Agunas’s view, those who know little about the Mythical Era find it extremely hard to investigate those people; not to mention, even if presented with the evidence, they might not detect anything amiss unless Agunas thoroughly explained matters related to those Mythological Remnants.
But this poses another challenge: doing so would inevitably introduce Mythical Era technology to others. Regarding such technology, the Divine Beasts’ stance is that if you research it independently, it’s none of their concern, but expecting them to help provide it is impossible.
They understood too well that Mythical Era technology is perilous, and if compared to Quine’s plot, even Agunas would consider actively providing and disseminating such technology more dangerous and troublesome than Quine’s plan.
In fact, if it weren’t for Feng Yuan speaking up, if someone else had sought help from the Maomu Special Service Team in Maomu City, Agunas would likely have intervened to stop them.
"In any case, we still need to rely on you for assistance. Currently, the thing to be cautious about is the changing properties of potions. As for the matter of Spiritual Medicine, I trust you won’t overlook it, and as for the Divine Beasts, they will handle it themselves."
Rubbing his brow, Feng Yuan said, having thought of something,
"If you notice anything unusual, please notify us promptly. Hmm... later, you can let Liao Yu go to the school dormitory to find me, and I’ll give you some Wolf God Amulets. Otherwise, if there’s another time correction, you might not be able to detect it."
"We will do our best; however, have you considered seeking help from higher authorities? Relying solely on us at the Maomu Special Service Team probably won’t be enough to mount an effective response."
Looking at Feng Yuan, Captain Yan didn’t outright agree, mainly because he felt this matter had already exceeded their capabilities.
Smiling, Feng Yuan said,
"I don’t need you to respond; just help pay attention to those anomalies. After all, we still don’t understand exactly what’s going on."
There was no choice; this incident had already impacted the Divine Beasts. Feng Yuan didn’t believe appealing to the Great Xia or even the Maomu Special Service Team would make much difference.
For if a time correction were to occur again, those without shelter wouldn’t notice any change, and Feng Yuan alone couldn’t produce a large quantity of Wolf God Amulets; the materials for those aren’t abundant.
Moreover, even though Feng Yuan didn’t explicitly say it, Captain Yan understood, Feng Yuan didn’t trust others—not because of suspicion, but just like the Mythological Remnants could experience internal chaos, even the higher-ups couldn’t guarantee there wouldn’t be issues.
Rather than sabotage, it could be differing ideologies that might hinder Feng Yuan and his team more.
While usually Feng Yuan was the one communicating with Captain Yan, occasionally others would also voice their opinions, and the group exchanged ideas for nearly two hours in the meeting room before reaching a conclusion.
There was no alternative; Feng Yuan didn’t expect the Special Duty Team to provide significant aid—it wasn’t realistic—but he still hoped the team might surprise him. As for Qi Chen and his team, things were even simpler.
In their view, in the face of such serious matters, additional help is always beneficial; however, Qi Chen and Wu Dingwu didn’t understand why Feng Yuan wasn’t directly seeking assistance from the Great Xia or even the Alliance.
"We still need to go to his dorm to get things... huh? Wait a minute, didn’t Feng Yuan and his team already go on break?"
Right after Feng Yuan and his team left, Captain Yan assigned the task to Liao Yu. Hearing that after Feng Yuan notified them, they still needed to visit his dorm, Liao Yu was somewhat reluctant.
After all, they’re not very close to Maomu Academy. However, he didn’t expect that even with such a small task, he could encounter trouble.
