Chapter 265: Adding Fuel to the Fire
The Grand Elder, Second Elder, and Third Elder arrived at the Wind Forest Sect’s Main Hall late at night. However, the Third Elder had forgotten that he had ordered his subordinates to kill any disciple from the Grand Elder’s faction who set foot in his territory.
The pig-headed Third Elder had completely forgotten about this. Upon entering the Main Hall, he sat down with an imposing air and immediately questioned the Grand Elder.
"Old bastard, speak up. If you don’t give me an explanation for this, I’m not letting this go."
"What did you say?" Hearing this, the Grand Elder glared furiously. He had yielded to this mad dog of a Third Elder time and time again. ’Does this bastard really think I’m afraid of him?’
"Now, now," the Second Elder interjected, trying to mediate. "This is clearly the work of an outsider, aiming to sow discord among us."
As the Second Elder, he needed the three major factions of the Wind Forest Sect to maintain a delicate balance. That was precisely why he had stepped in to reason with the Third Elder today.
While the three of them negotiated in the Main Hall, the disciples of the Third Elder’s faction had already begun their slaughter of the Grand Elder’s disciples within Wind Forest City.
Many disciples from the Grand Elder’s faction were cut down. As the death toll climbed, panic spread among all of the Grand Elder’s disciples still within the Third Elder’s territory.
The disciples of the Third Elder’s faction seemed to have gone mad. They attacked on sight without a single word. In just a single hour, more than thirty of the Grand Elder’s disciples had been killed.
This night was destined for slaughter. After more than thirty of their own were killed, all the surviving disciples from the Grand Elder’s faction gathered together.
Only a little over twenty remained. Among them was Lin Yun, disguised as a Wind Forest Sect disciple.
Everyone looked at one another in dismay. They had heard rumors, but none of them had ever expected the Third Elder’s faction to launch such a sudden, murderous assault.
Most importantly, the Primordial Ocean Realm experts from their own faction still hadn’t arrived to rescue them.
It wasn’t the five Elders’ fault. They were currently being held up by experts from the Third Elder’s faction and couldn’t break free.
"Are you people insane? Do you want to declare all-out war?" a Primordial Ocean Realm expert from the Grand Elder’s faction bellowed, watching his fellow disciples die brutal deaths.
In response, the leader of the five Primordial Ocean Realm experts from the Third Elder’s side retorted coldly, "War? Your Grand Elder’s faction has been eyeing our territory for ages. You’re the ones who started this!"
The experts from both sides glared daggers at each other. As they were all in the Primordial Ocean Realm, killing one another would be extremely difficult. Besides, the Third Elder’s side had no intention of killing them; they just needed to stall long enough for their subordinates to annihilate the Grand Elder’s disciples.
The twenty-some surviving disciples from the Grand Elder’s faction huddled together, completely surrounded by disciples from the Third Elder’s side.
Nearly a hundred of the Third Elder’s disciples were preparing to deliver the final blow.
"Everyone, we’re surrounded! The only way we’re getting out of this alive is by killing them!" Lin Yun, still in his disguise, shouted at this critical moment.
Everyone turned to look at him. But the disparity in their numbers was overwhelming. Worse, they were deep in the Third Elder’s territory with no reinforcements in sight. How could they possibly win?
Seeing their silence and the fear in their eyes, Lin Yun pressed on. "Brothers, we’re dead if we stay and dead if we fight! Are we just going to stand here and wait to be slaughtered? If you charge with me, there’s still a sliver of hope!"
Lin Yun pointed toward the Grand Elder’s territory, his words continuously stoking their courage.
Stirred by Lin Yun’s cries, a few of the disciples rediscovered their will to fight. Their energy was contagious, and soon, all the disciples from the Grand Elder’s faction were roaring in defiance.
’Dead either way, so we might as well go down fighting! At least then we have a chance!’
"Brothers, kill your way out with me!" Having successfully stoked the flames of their fury, Lin Yun let out a perfectly timed roar and charged forward, leading the way.
Led by Lin Yun, the twenty-odd disciples charged toward the Grand Elder’s territory. Just as he expected, they hadn’t run for long before being intercepted by the Third Elder’s people.
A group of fifty disciples from the Third Elder’s faction, weapons in hand, saw Lin Yun’s group charging and rushed to meet them head-on.
The two groups immediately engaged in a chaotic battle. The Third Elder’s side held a clear advantage; in the first moments of the clash, seven or eight of the Grand Elder’s disciples fell.
Weaving through the crowd, Lin Yun held back at first. He waited until more than half of the Grand Elder’s disciples were dead or wounded, and only then did he begin his one-sided slaughter.
These Qi Sea Realm disciples were no match for Lin Yun. As he moved through the crowd, almost no one could withstand a single one of his punches.
With Lin Yun on the warpath, the Third Elder’s disciples were routed. More than half of their fifty-man team were killed, and the few survivors scattered and fled for their lives.
The surviving disciples from the Grand Elder’s faction cheered as they watched the Third Elder’s men flee, even though fewer than eight of their own number remained.
"Brothers, push forward! Our territory is just ahead!" Lin Yun yelled.
At his words, the eight survivors immediately broke into a run toward the Grand Elder’s territory. Once they made it there, they would be safe.
The situation, which Lin Yun had thrown into disarray, was spiraling further into chaos. Back in the Main Hall, the three negotiating Elders each received a report from their subordinates.
"Grand Elder, the Third Elder’s men massacred many of our disciples. Fewer than eight made it back alive; the rest all died in the Third Elder’s territory."
"Third Elder, the Grand Elder’s disciples killed more than thirty of our men in our own territory."
After hearing the reports, the two men instantly turned to glare at each other. The Grand Elder was the first to explode.
"What is the meaning of this?! I already made a concession, and you still went ahead and killed my disciples?"
"I killed your disciples?" the Third Elder shot back. "And what about your disciples? Didn’t they kill mine?"
Dozens of his faction’s disciples had died in a single night. The Grand Elder was now completely enraged. "You’ve gone too far! Do you really think I won’t make a move against you?"
"Hmph! I saw through you a long time ago, you old bastard," the Third Elder retorted, refusing to yield an inch. "You’ve been after what’s mine for ages. Fine! Let’s settle this today, once and for all, even if it destroys us both!"
The situation had devolved into utter chaos. The Third Elder’s disciples had slaughtered many from the Grand Elder’s faction, while Lin Yun, posing as one of the Grand Elder’s men, had killed just as many of the Third Elder’s disciples in turn.
Neither man would yield an inch, and the Second Elder’s attempts to placate them were useless. While the Grand Elder might have been able to tolerate the initial conflict...
...his patience finally snapped upon hearing that the Third Elder’s men were still killing his disciples in Wind Forest City. This was simply going too far.
They had come to the table to negotiate, yet the Third Elder was simultaneously having his disciples slaughtered. No one could be expected to stomach such an insult.
