Endless Debt
Chapter 1219 - 48: Absurd Night
Jumping off the high building, rushing through the streets, the chase game between Bologue and the Regent King continued, a terrifying pressure looming close like a roaring steamroller, intent on crushing everything in its path into fragments.
After a brief exchange, Bologue had gained a rough understanding of this mysterious Regent King. Aside from his Secret Energy and that eerie Shadow Blade, his most distinctive feature was his peculiar aura.
An aura is a very mystical thing, and Bologue didn’t have concrete criteria to judge it, but it acted like a label, allowing Bologue to quickly understand some people.
The Regent King had a particular sense of aloofness, as if he didn’t belong to this world, a noble existence apart from it. His gaze, like Bologue’s, always seemed fixed on the distance, never focused.
But Bologue was because of nearsightedness, while the Regent King was purely due to an arrogance that had sunk into his bones.
The Regent King was too arrogant. From the start of the exchange, he never looked Bologue in the eye, treating this all as a mere chase game, mouthing something about fairness, so he set victory conditions favorable to Bologue.
His Seeker of Glory power itself was the greatest unfairness.
Ethereal Amplification clung to Bologue nonstop, making him run through the dim alleys like an overloaded machine. Relying on his knowledge of Oath City’s terrain, Bologue managed to maneuver with the Regent King a little, but it merely delayed the time of death.
A fatal ether reaction exploded beside Bologue, then he saw the writhing shadows seeping from the walls, solidifying into thousands of swords, effortlessly slicing the entire building, pulverizing it into dust.
"Bologue!"
The Regent King shouted joyously, his tie wildly flapping in the wind.
The Pitch Black Sword pierced through the smoke and in an instant reached Bologue’s eyes. Bologue didn’t show any fear; laden with ether, Resentful Bite swiftly countered the Shadow Blade.
The two blades collided with an earth-shattering blast, ripples spreading around, making buildings start to sway, shattering all the glass, dense cracks flashed across the walls.
"You’ve learned fast."
The Regent King watched the interaction between the Shadow Blade and Resentful Bite. In theory, the Shadow Blade could dematerialize, pass through Resentful Bite, and directly slash Bologue, but this time the dematerialization of the Shadow Blade was restricted, leaving only the solid blade.
"Not bad."
Bologue could feel the immense force emanating from Resentful Bite, the ground beneath his feet splitting apart.
Violent ether surged around Resentful Bite, aggressive enough to resist the ether shrouding the Shadow Blade, thus limiting its dematerialization.
The battle between Condensers was not just a confrontation of Secret Energy, but also an offensive of Ether.
Ether is the foundation of everything.
The Regent King swung the Shadow Blade, effortlessly shaking Bologue off. The disparity in Tier had put Bologue in a passive position; he was thrown high, then released Silver Hand, using the momentum to escape.
Landing in a corner of the street, Bologue gasped heavily. For the first time, he was so severely suppressed, and before he could make his next move, the roaring sword shriek echoed from behind him.
No time!
Bologue put all his strength into swinging Resentful Bite behind him. Simultaneously, vibrant colors reappeared before Bologue’s eyes, cracks densely covering him burst with radiance, luminous ripples quickly enveloped Bologue, familiar colors inversely phased as he periodically returned to the material world.
At the same time, Bologue turned around and saw that pitch-black Shadow Blade suspended above him, while his Resentful Bite had cut into the Regent King’s abdomen, with spots of blood surfacing under his white shirt.
"How inconvenient."
The Regent King muttered under his breath, his expression growing impatient. The Shadow Blade hovering over Bologue’s head didn’t strike but melted into shadows, retreating back into the Regent King’s sleeve, who then pushed away Resentful Bite cutting into him as if he felt no pain.
Bologue was somewhat dazed, even forgetting to continue his attack.
"Oh? A convenience store, do you want something to drink?"
The Regent King noticed the 24-hour convenience store nearby, surprised that the two had moved to here amid their fight.
Bologue replied impulsively, "Juice, orange juice will do."
"Alright."
The Regent King adjusted his tie, opened the door, and walked in, while Bologue stayed where he was, neither striking nor turning to leave.
At that moment, the two were no longer in the Mirror World, any action could trigger a huge disaster. Bologue hesitated whether to continue releasing ether reactions to draw attention, which would bring reinforcements for Bologue, but he also knew that before reinforcements arrived, the Regent King would launch a frantic assault to stop him.
The destruction of this street district hung on a mere thought.
Or, perhaps, restraint was better, at least now the Regent King had no intention of attacking; he probably didn’t want to unleash a disaster within the city either... After all, he was an arrogant guy, having promised rules, he would surely adhere to them steadfastly.
The convenience store door opened again, the Regent King having bought himself a can of cold beer, raising his hand to toss a can of orange juice to Bologue.
Seconds ago, they had been fighting to the death; now, the two simply stood on the street, drinking at their leisure, occasionally chatting.
