Chapter 41: Epiphany

[10 biomass has been spent to improve brain function by 25%.]

[Your skill Divided Consciousness has leveled up to level 4.

You have gained 1 consciousness.]

This 5th consciousness’s sole purpose would be to learn and master spells.

This time, when I focused on this spell, I could feel mana flowing from my core to every part of my body.

It was as if I had been enlightened. It felt as if my mind was unraveling the mysteries of mana. The fundamentals and applications of magic.

And if I dug deep enough, I could unlock secrets most couldn’t even dream about.

Before, activating a spell had felt a bit mysterious and unknown. But now I truly understood its applications.

-New Skill Acquired-

[Mana Sense: A passive skill that allows the user to sense and understand magic on a fundamental level after witnessing its applications.]

With this added clarity, I activated the spell [Earth Control] once again. I channeled the mana into the ground, which caused the earth to rise up and wrap around the orcs’ feet, trapping them before they could attack.

But before they could use their brutish strength to break through the trap I had made, I activated my Mold skill, which caused sharp obsidian spikes to burst from the ground and pierce into their hearts and stomachs.

[You have leveled up to Level 13 and have gained 13 skill points.]

[Due to Obsidian Dragon Bloodline, stat points for each level up will be 3x! All stats have been increased by 15 points instead of 5.]

I killed 27 orcs in total. Quickly, I then activated the magma creation spell, which caused the ground beneath my feet to turn into magma, swallowing the orcs into its abyss.

After reabsorbing the magma, I gained a total of 1680 biomass. Each orc gave me 70 biomass.

Now I had more than 2000 biomass. Still, I wasn’t sure if it would be enough, but I couldn’t wait any longer.

The Nymph’s life was in danger. Her castle had all but collapsed, and her once peaceful domain was now bathed in fire and blood.

There were giant craters in the ground, and the tree puppets from before were all dead.

I had been distracted for only a few minutes while I faced the orcs, and all this destruction had happened within that time.

It was at that moment when I truly understood the threat we were facing.

She wouldn’t stand a chance. Not against players who held this much power.

I had to get to her before anything happened.

With Mana Sense active, I could tell just how thick the air was with mana.

If my mana was like a cup of water, the Nymph’s would be like a lake.

While the top-ranked players I was sensing, with all their strength combined, their mana pool would be like the ocean itself!

Some of them were even more powerful than the Nymph individually.

We had underestimated them, and that alone could very well cost us our lives.

There were giant tree structures and vines erupting from the ground. Most of these structures were either burnt or cut in half.

I had to weave through them to get to where they were while making sure I wasn’t attacked by players.

With all the plant monsters defeated, all the players were converging on a single location.

These players were powerful. Most of them must have ranked in the top 100, hence I had to make sure I wasn’t seen, or else I would have been killed immediately.

I could feel the abundance of mana oozing out of their bodies. They must have been in this game for months, honing their skills and talents as they leveled up.

There was no way I could face them, but I didn’t like the idea of them all going after the Nymph.

She already had her hands full facing the top-ranked players. If any more showed up, then it just might be the feather that breaks the camel’s back.

I had to do something to slow them down, at least.

Just as that thought crossed my mind, I spotted something. It was a horde of evolution creatures rushing towards the charging players.

At the head of this group were the creatures I had brought with me. They had suddenly disappeared while I was facing the orcs.

I had assumed they had just gotten scared and run away, but it looked like they went to go get the others. A lot of these creatures had weak evolutions, but there were a few of them with evolutions and skills even more powerful than mine.

Though none of them had evolved to have a monster core, so they were still weak in some areas.

Hearing the strange sound the creatures were making, the players halted and turned around in shock and dismay.

The sight of such hideous creatures charging towards them caused them to freeze for just a second, but they quickly regained their composure and raised their weapons to defend themselves.

The Nymph’s children were clearly at a disadvantage, so I had act quickly and help them.

[10 skill points have been spent to increase Sonic Attack to Level 3!]

Activating my Sonic Attack skill, I vibrated my wings at supersonic speed to create a sonic blast, strong enough to distract the players and give the monsters a chance. While at the same time I activated the skill, I focused on my core, channeling mana from it and into my wings.

It felt as if magma was running through every vien in my body as the soft tissue beneath my exoskeleton began to glow bright orange. The bright color seeped through the cracks in my armor and soon my wings also began to glow bright orange.

Along with with the fire in my body, it also felt as if every cell in my body was charged with electricity. It was a scary feeling but it was also very exhilarating.

Immediately, my wings began to vibrate more violently at least 2 times the speed they were before.

This is incredible!

Before, I didn’t even imagine this was something I could do, but now that I had an extra consciousness, it felt like child’s play.

Orcs used mana to enhance their already powerful strength and skills, so it made sense that I could do the same to my body.

By perfectly controlling mana throughout my body, I could push each and every evolution to its limit!

An ear-shattering sonic blast ripped through the space as it vibrated the very air around us.

The unsuspecting players down below me were completely caught off guard as they collapsed to the ground and clutched their ears which was oozing blood.

But even I wasn’t saved from the attack as I gracelessly fell from the sky, my wings ripped to shreds. Yellowish blood seeped through the large cracks in my exoskeleton.

My wings just weren’t strong enough in their current form to handle such power. And neither was my body.
