Endless Evolution as a Centipede in a Game-Like World
Chapter 42: Nymph’s Battle
The Nymph’s eyes darted around at the five figures surrounding her as she was filled with panic and rage.
On her side was a large wound dripping pale green blood. She gritted her teeth and stared at the person hovering above her in the sky.
It was a man with fiery red hair and fire wings on his back. The man wore a small smile on his face as he stared down at her.
From that angle, it was as if she was staring up at a god.
"Just as I thought. We’re actually stronger than an S-ranked boss monster. You creatures weren’t worth the hype," the man said in a mocking tone.
Watching from the side were four figures cloaked in shadow. One of them was an orc, who watched smugly from the sidelines with the others, but she was certain he was the weakest of the group.
The others, on the other hand, were as powerful or even more powerful than the man she was facing.
The five of them had shown up to kill her, but the man with the fiery red hair had suggested that he would face her alone.
At first, the Nymph thought he was just arrogant and that she could easily kill all of them.
But she was dead wrong. From the moment the fight started, he had been dominating effortlessly. Never in her life had she been this outmatched before.
’This player... It looks like he has the mythical Phoenix bloodline. That bloodline shouldn’t even exist, much less be in the hands of a player.’
"Brother, stop toying with her and hurry up and kill her so we can get out of here," the orc shouted from the sidelines.
"Kukuku, who said you could kill her? You only said you wanted to have some fun with her, and we agreed because we thought it would be fun to watch. Don’t overstep your boundaries," one of the shadowy figures said in a strangely formal tone.
The Phoenix King didn’t respond to their words as he continued to stare at the Nymph with his flaming sword resting against his shoulder.
He then casually held out his hand, which formed a compressed sphere of ball in the palm of his hand.
The Nymph’s eyes widened. The reason for this was the specialized branch of magic that phoenixes used.
It was called spectral magic, and it operated on different frequencies of light and energy. By using a specific frequency or combining frequencies, the Phoenix could create different forms of attacks and chance the state of their attacks.
He was forcing the particles of light to shrink into ultraviolet rays, then to x-rays, and finally into gamma rays!
It was the strangeness and the mysteries surrounding this branch of magic that made it so dangerous in the first place.
Without hesitation, she readied herself to fight once again. Powerful vines thrust from the ground toward him, but by using his other hand, he simply increased the frequency and density of the photons in the air to create a light barrier to protect himself.
The energy in his hand began to turn into a deep violet until it faded into a terrifying invisible distortion.
The Nymph didn’t let up and summoned a colossal world tree that spawned almost like a mountain as the ground itself was destroyed in the process.
The Phoenix King, on the other hand, levitated in the sky almost like a god as he fired a beam of pure ionizing radiation.
The attack didn’t just destroy the world tree. It vaporized its very existence! The earth itself was scarred from the attack.
The Nymph barely survived by disappearing underground.
The Nymph didn’t care what happened to herself. As long as these players didn’t go near her children.
She had witnessed their strength and knew she couldn’t win against them. Their power was just that overwhelming.
For the first time, she felt true fear. Fear of what would happen if these monsters stayed here any longer.
’They are only here for the Terra-shard they’ll receive when they kill me. After that, they’ll leave. They’re only here for me. I can’t drag the others down with me.’
She knew that no one was coming to save her, nor would she want them to. She would be happy knowing that the creatures she created were safe and protected.
’At least I finally got the chance to talk to someone. It was fun. And now I get the chance to be a cool mother and go out with a bang protecting my children.’
A warm smile appeared on her face as she nodded her head in conviction.
’Alright, I can do this!’
SLAP!
SLAP!
She slapped her burning cheeks which were turning red from the thoughts of her family. She then took a deep breath as she focused on the mana coursing through her body.
Immediately, several large roots began to grow in the soil around her before her body exploded upward out of the ground.
Around her was pure destruction, and the Phoenix still floated in the sky.
The Nymph’s magic was also a specialized magic. It was called Life Bringer magic, and it gave her the ability to create life.
The concept was simple. It gave her the ability to create life even in the plants she created.
Several massive plant-based monsters erupted from the ground around her, all having several evolutions and traits.
The Nymph herself stood on top of a giant monster that looked like a Venus flytrap.
The monster carried her through the air toward the Phoenix, who smiled smugly at her.
He confidently pointed his sword toward her as if daring her to come any closer.
But the Nymph didn’t backed down and created a sword of her own, made of twisting vines. It looked more like a whip than a sword.
The two weapons met. She wielded her sword with pinpoint accuracy and used it to parry his blade, sending the weapon flying out of his hand.
And precisely at that moment, a sonic blast echoed through the space, and at the same time, a flood of strange beasts with various evolutions washed over the space.
The Nymph’s eyes almost teared up as she stared at them. It was her children. They had all come to rescue her.
’This must’ve been Liam’s doing.’
Her heart filled with warmth at the realization.
The Phoenix King, on the other hand, along with the others watching from the side were all caught off guard by the sudden appearance of these beasts.
Along with the sonic attacks that overrode their hearing for just a moment.
Nonetheless, the Phoenix King took it as his chance to finally kill the Nymph without the others interfering.
And strangely, his sword was just lying on the ground below him. It had been parried off into the distance, but strangely, here it was.
It was strange, but he assumed his brother must’ve tossed it to him.
But little did he know that his brother was too busy fighting off the strange beasts and couldn’t have been the one that tossed him his sword.
The one who did was already back in hiding. Its numerous legs moved in coordination as it faded into the sea of monsters.
The Phoenix didn’t waste a second as he moved toward his sword. Then, by manipulating the frequency of light, he turned his body into light itself as he flashed through the air and plunged his sword into the Nymph’s chest.
