Eternal Life Starts from Tai Chi
Chapter 246: Why Bother? A Clean Sweep
At the crack of dawn, Yang Chan and Xu Gaocen finished treating the last of the severely injured disciples.
The lightly injured disciples were easy to treat and dealt with quickly, but the severely wounded were far more difficult. Despite their efforts, half of the severely injured disciples didn’t make it and passed away.
Last night’s losses for the Cyan Yuan Sect were considerable. However, it was a stroke of good fortune that no Inner Masters or Pharmacists had died.
After the long night, White Jade City had finally fallen quiet. Yet even as the sun rose, no one dared to push open their doors, for bloodstains were everywhere.
It wasn’t just the palace that had been thrown into chaos; the same was true across the city, as many Sects had been attacked.
The strongholds of some Sects in White Jade City had been utterly annihilated, with not a single survivor. While the Cyan Yuan Sect’s losses were substantial, they were much better off in comparison.
Having been up all night, Yang Chan was utterly exhausted. He walked to his newly assigned quarters, lay down, and immediately fell asleep.
He hated pulling all-nighters, but sometimes things didn’t go his way. As someone who had literally died from overwork in a past life, Yang Chan knew the importance of catching up on sleep, rather than putting on a brave face and continuing to push himself.
’Only by resting properly can I hope to live a long life.’
’After all, I have a three-hundred-year Lifespan now, with even more in my future. If I drop dead from exhaustion, it’ll all be for nothing.’
’If I’d just been able to resist temptation back then, I’d still be practicing my daily health regimen of admiring beauties and comfortably sipping on sodas. After all, at my age, living another fifty or sixty years would have been no problem at all.’
So, Yang Chan didn’t try to endure. He simply came back to catch up on sleep.
’The rest can be left to Elder Yan, Ji Feng, Qi Yuansheng, and the others. I’m just a low-key Pharmacist. My Cultivation isn’t high, and I don’t stand out. I need to get even better at flying under the radar.’
’I need to avoid getting targeted by another reckless Inner Master.’
’I really don’t want to have to fight an Inner Master. Why do they insist on making trouble for me? It’s so unnecessary.’
’If a Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmaster were to make a move, that would be even worse.’ For this reason, Yang Chan changed his plans again, allocating all his Potential Points to his Wind-Stepping Technique, hoping to raise it to Tier Five as quickly as possible.
His Tier Four Wind-Stepping Technique was fast, and most Inner Masters couldn’t keep up with him, but Yang Chan still felt it wasn’t safe enough. ’I should take a page from Han PaoPao’s book and focus my points on a Light Body Technique. It’s always better to be able to run faster.’
’After all, I know that no matter how powerful an Emperor Dou is, if he’s riding a normal horse, he’ll never catch a mere Combatant Level cultivator who’s riding a faster horse.’
’By the same logic, as long as I can run fast enough, a Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmaster won’t be able to catch me, and neither will danger.’
The sky this morning was gloomy, with dark clouds pressing down on the city. This saved Yang Chan the trouble of practicing his Purple Qi Body Cultivation Skill, allowing him to sleep in peace.
Yang Chan’s sleep didn’t last long. After about two hours, someone came to find him, asking him to check on the condition of the injured disciples.
Yang Chan was mentally prepared for this. Although he hadn’t slept for long, he was full of vitality, so the lack of rest didn’t affect him too much.
He felt sluggish right after waking up, but after circulating the Power from his Tai Chi Health Cultivation Skill, a portion of his Essence Qi was restored, making him appear less exhausted.
Yang Chan got to work, looking after the severely injured disciples whose conditions remained unstable. Before coming to White Jade City, he never would have imagined things would turn out like this.
According to Zhao Yi and the others, the Pharmacist Exchange Conference was supposed to be a relaxed affair. Since he wasn’t going to be the main representative, he wouldn’t have to worry too much about the Alchemy challenges; he could just do his best without any pressure.
The rest was supposed to be easy.
It had been that way at first, but things were different now. He was busy again—the kind of busy where he had no Pharmacist’s Assistant to help. There wasn’t even an opportunity to hand off these tasks to people like Han Bingyu.
If he had those Pharmacist’s Assistants to help, his workload would be much lighter.
According to those watching over the wounded, Xu Gaocen had stayed with the injured disciples this entire time and had only just left to get some rest. One could call him remarkably dedicated.
What could Yang Chan say to that? Even Xu Gaocen, who had always been a notorious slacker back at the Cyan Yuan Sect—always arriving late and leaving early—was now getting caught up in the grind. ’You go ahead and burn yourself out,’ Yang Chan thought. ’I’ll just watch.’
Elder Yan, Hall Master Qi Yuansheng, and the others were not in the Cyan Yuan Pavilion. They had left as soon as day broke and the streets were somewhat restored. Though they hadn’t stated their purpose, Yang Chan had a good idea what it was.
’They obviously sense the danger in White Jade City and are probably trying to rally the other Sects to leave together. After all, White Jade City is outside the major Sects’ sphere of influence, making it quite perilous.’
Elder Ji Feng, meanwhile, was managing affairs at the Cyan Yuan Pavilion. The bloodstains and bodies from the previous night had all been cleaned up. Apart from the lingering signs of damage on the broken-down structures and burned-out rooms, the place looked as it usually did.
Oh, wait. The restaurant out front also had far fewer customers.
While Yang Chan was in the middle of his treatments, a meal was delivered to the Pharmacy. He had ordered the food from the Cyan Yuan Pavilion’s own restaurant. Having worked all night without eating before going to bed, and then coming straight here after waking up in the afternoon, he was starving. Of course, he also did it for the daily Potential Points, which he couldn’t afford to miss.
This time, treating the injured disciples was not as hectic as the previous night. They just needed to take their medications on schedule, and he would only intervene if a new problem arose. The process was much more manageable, so at least he wasn’t too busy to eat.
Once the food was delivered, Yang Chan inspected every dish before wolfing it all down like a storm. The various meat dishes vanished into his stomach in moments.
Even after eating a mountain of food, his stomach didn’t bulge in the slightest—an ability any glutton would kill for. However, it was merely an application of his Power and not particularly unusual.
After finishing his meal, Yang Chan checked on the injured disciples while simultaneously taking his elixirs and applying Medicated Ointments to his body. He used every type of medicine he had that could grant him Potential Points.
’Even though unexpected things have happened, I can’t break my rhythm of allocating points. This concerns my future—you could even say it concerns my very life.’
’If my Cultivation were high enough, I wouldn’t have to worry about my safety. Ultimately, I’m still not strong enough, and these Potential Points are the answer.’
At one point, Elder Ji Feng came over to check on the injured disciples. He greeted Yang Chan and told him to let Xu Gaocen take over if he felt tired.
For now, the only option was to have the two of them work in shifts, as they were the only Pharmacists available to treat the wounded.
As for Elder Yan, he had more important matters to deal with and would not be participating in the medical efforts. After all, his work was for the benefit of everyone and was thus of greater consequence.
In the aftermath of last night’s events, news slowly began to trickle in. The situation in White Jade City was not good. It was clearly no longer a suitable place to stay. The best option was to leave this troublesome vortex, avoid the chaos, and wait for the dust to settle before even thinking about returning.
This was what Yan Jinfeng and the others thought, and it was what they were arranging.
