A Few Minutes Ago

About half an hour later, Victor and Amber stopped in front of a huge mansion.

"Looks like that’s our destination."

There were guards pacing around the mansion, and all of them were carrying fully loaded assault rifles.

"Idiots. The world has evolved, and they still haven’t hired any Awakeners."

Victor snorted.

He knew many rich people thought they were still untouchable, and they didn’t hire Awakeners for their protection until the news started showing Awakeners killing and robbing wealthy individuals. Only then did many of them stop being lazy and afraid of death and start actively leveling up.

"Lilith, disable all forms of surveillance."

Victor looked at Lilith, who was resting on his shoulder.

"Yes, Sir Victor. Miss Lilith will do it right away."

Lilith said, and her eyes glowed blue as numbers and codes appeared in her retina.

After about ten minutes—

"It’s done. Miss Lilith has completed the task."

Lilith said proudly as she looked at Victor.

"Miss Lilith is amazing."

Victor praised.

"Exactly! Miss Lilith is amazing!"

The mechanical cat puffed out her chest and looked at Amber.

Amber’s lips twitched, but she said,

"Miss Lilith is awesome."

"Exactly."

Lilith replied.

"Let’s go."

Victor said, and Amber nodded.

"HALT!"

The guards immediately noticed them and pointed their guns in their direction without hesitation.

"Identify yourselves! What are you doing here?!"

The next moment, one of the guards suddenly screamed in pain, startling the others.

When they turned to look at him, they saw that his hands had frozen solid and shattered.

"W-What happened?!"

However, before they could even make sense of what was happening, frost started appearing across their bodies.

"Good job."

Victor looked at Amber and said.

"Where should we go next? Directly toward the culprits?"

Amber asked with a smile.

"No, let’s first find their hidden vault where they keep their wealth. Rich families often do this."

Victor said with a smirk and looked at Lilith.

"Lilith, do you know where their hidden vault is?"

Victor asked.

"Miss Lilith knows. Follow Miss Lilith."

The cat said as she walked forward with Amber and Victor closely behind.

They kept walking and avoided all the guards.

Soon, they arrived in front of a large iron vault.

Victor looked at Amber and said,

"Freeze it."

Amber nodded and raised her hand.

The steel instantly froze into ice, which shattered from a single punch by Victor without making much noise.

"Well, will you look at this."

Victor smirked as he saw rows of gold bars and stacks of dollars inside the vault.

Victor waved his hand, and all the contents of the vault vanished into his inventory.

"Tsk, the inventory skill sure is handy."

Amber clicked her tongue.

"What are you doing here?!"

Suddenly, a panicked and fearful voice rang out.

Victor turned to look, and a smirk appeared on his face when he saw the familiar person.

"Kevin, looks like you are really destined to die at my hands."

Victor said with a smile.

In front of him was Kevin, who, still limbless, was moving with the support of a wheelchair.

"Good job."

Victor looked at Amber and said.

"Where should we go next? Directly toward the culprits?"

Amber asked with a smile.

Victor said with a smirk and looked at Lilith.

"Damn bastard, I will kill you!"

Kevin said through gritted teeth while using a wheelchair to move around.

He was lucky his injuries were less severe than Ethan’s, and he could move after receiving treatment.

He was currently heading toward the vault where some high-quality potions had been stored.

As he passed through one of the lower corridors, he noticed something strange.

His gaze shifted from side to side, but he found no one—not even servants.

That made him frown, but he didn’t think too much about it, as this place was mostly isolated and only a few trusted guards and family members could access it.

Upon entering, he saw a man and a woman standing in the middle of the room with their backs turned to him.

But what truly made Kevin’s eyes widen was seeing that the vault was completely empty.

There were no documents, gold bars, or anything else left inside.

"Who are you?"

Kevin murmured, realizing there was no one else there except for the man standing in front of him.

"And what happened here? Where is all our wealth?"

He asked, incredulous at the scene before him.

Even though he was fearful, he frowned as he thought they couldn’t hear him. It wasn’t his fault his throat hurt whenever he spoke too loudly.

He moved closer, and his face paled when he saw the two faces.

It was Victor and Amber.

His body immediately started trembling in fear.
