Chapter 186: 186. Vampires at Coldshade City

In The vampire territory,

It was dark outside and the time when most creatures would be asleep but here, it was a lively day. Everyone moved around freely carrying one task or another. The lamps in the halls were dimly lit, though it proved useless as the creatures that inhabited there could do perfectly fine without it.

In a room that was without any trace of light, the vampire lord sat staring at the deal in front of him with the pictures of a witch and a human on it. The witch was none other than Crysta and the human, Jarred, the head and founder of the organization that was created solely to fight against their kind. He had no expression on his face as he stared at it. His eyes were even more empty but they were of a crimson shade.

He picked up the photo of the woman in his hand and ripped it to pieces. He didn’t need a photo to know who she was. Not after his encounter with her at the witches’ coven. He has still not forgotten and he wouldn’t forget, not as long as he lived.

But as for the man, he stared at this blonde-haired man in the photo with killing intent. That human was responsible for the demise of his loyal subject and some whom he didn’t like but would have still been of use if alive. A knock on the door had his attention diverted to the door. After a moment, Azrail walked in.

He looked around the dark room and at the vampire sitting and staring back at him. He walked over to him and bowed his head. "You summoned me, My Lord," he said while raising his head.

"I did," Dmitri said and pushed the photo of Jarred toward him on the desk. "I want to know everything about this human, but before that, you will accompany me to pay him a little visit."

Azrail picked up the photo and looked at the human who had a beautiful and innocent smile on his face like he had never done anything bad all his life. "I recognize him, My Lord,"

Dmitri stood up from the seat, adjusted his fur coat, and stepped away from the spot ready to leave the room. "Why don’t you tell me all about him on our way to visit him. It would be rude to go to him without knowing how to address him properly, won’t it?" He got to the door but before he could open it, Azrail beat him to it and he smiled.

"As you wish, Lord Dmitri." Azrail Said and stepped out of the room after he did. "But wouldn’t lord prefer the company of the captain?"

"Leroy is out on a little errand, he should be back before morning. So you will accompany me." Using his vampire speed, he moved through the hallways and was standing outside in no time. "I have been asleep for too long, I don’t know my way around here anymore." He spoke again after Azrail caught up to him. "Lea’s the way, Azrail."

"This way, My Lord," Azrail said after receiving the permission to lead the way. He moved first going through the trees that surrounded them with ease. They didn’t need to use a vehicle because it was dark and the sun wouldn’t be out anytime soon. During the day they could use the cars and stay inside as they moved from one place to another to avoid direct contact with the sun. They could stay under the sun but not for long or they would be affected by it.

Dmitri watched him go and smiled, he was faster than the vampires he had seen since his awakening and stepping out of his mansion. He moved and soon caught up to him and within a few minutes, they were standing at the top of a hill looking down at Coldshade City. The city was silent as most of the humans had retired to their homes and were asleep. This was the perfect time for the night creatures, especially the vampire to feed.

To pick any human who was still wandering around outside and have a good meal or snack according to their appetite. Just as they had thought, on a closer look they could see some vampires having their fill. But that was not why they had come to this City.

"Where from here? Dimitri asked, looking around the place as if making a mental map of it in his mind and comparing it with the one he had ages ago.

"The City’s outskirts, due north," Azrail replied and Dmitri gave a nod of approval. He started walking down and Azrail followed beside him. "You should have taken a bodyguard with you, My lord,"

"Afraid I will die in the hands of the humans and would require a life exchange or do you plan to kill me yourself?" He asked in a casual tone.

Azrail stopped walking and stared at his back for a second or two before resuming his steps. "No, but what I meant." He said and Dmitri gave him a nod. Azrail didn’t give the vibe of someone who was a traitor but he was a cold-blooded killer and that was something that attracted his attention to him too.

"Then why would I require a bodyguard?’’ They stepped into an alley where a vampire female could be seen leading a human male to a corner and then having her fill with and snapping his neck off after that. She seemed to have noticed the extra presence there and quickly disappeared into the darkness. They walked over to the lifeless human. "What a waste of a good meal," Dmitri commented and then crossed the dead body as they needed to get to the other side. "I am waiting for my answer Azrail,"

"You shouldn’t be allowed to walk alone like this without them," Azrail replied, also crossing the dead human.

"Speaking a Lord, I see." They soon got to a much brighter part of the alley which was lit by neon light and the sign of a club hanging up on a pole. The sound of the music playing inside the club penetrates the ears. "How noisy, I wonder how they can stand that much noise."

"Should we take another route, my lord?" Azrail asked. The noise also annoyed him. Unlike the humans, they had a higher sense of hearing and this was way too much even when they were standing outside and a few meters away from the club.

"No, I want to know all that there is to know about the humans of this era, and this can be considered as one of those." He refuses his polite request. " Now, tell me about our friend, we are almost there."

They began walking again and soon passed the club leaving the blaring music behind them and Azrail began filling him in on all there was to know about Jarred.

Using their speed once again, they covered the rest of the distance. They stood outside and stared at the huge gates and fence that made the place look like a fortress. But one side of it had collapsed.

"What happened here?" He asked but his gaze remained fixated on the broken part of the fence. "Let’s go in and see how our friend is doing, shall we?" he said with a sweet smile.
