Chapter 216: 216. A vampire’s vow

Leroy looked at Alpha Julio as if unable to believe what he said. But The look on the face of Julio and everyone else with them confirmed that they were not joking.

"What do you have to say about this?" Dmitri asked. If Leroy had disobeyed him, then he was better off dead than alive. He would keep an unfaithful servant beside him.

"I have no idea about this, My lord," Leroy replied and turned to look at Kora. "You must be mistaken, Luna supreme, had there been any vampires from Snow Town, I would have known," he said. There was a big frown on his face and a pleading look in his eyes which everyone in front of him could see. Everyone except those behind him.

Kora smirked when she saw that look. She still remembered this cure coming to capture and kill her on her birthday. He ruined her birthday and nearly killed Dana, how was she going to forgive that and save him now? "I am very sure of what we say, Lord Dmitri, your vampires from Snow Town are currently inhabitants of our territory and not yours, has your territory become too small to house them? Or have you become too greedy to house your people?" she asked in a taunting tone.

"Don’t push it," Dmitri said in annoyance but it was clear that he was not annoyed at her but at Leroy. "If they like it there, allow them to stay for my sake," he requested. It was obvious that they were not lying, Gaia wouldn’t lie and neither would Kora.

Everyone except Dmitri was surprised at how she spoke to Dmitri, even the way he replied to her. They always sounded like old friends who liked to bicker. Just what was their relationship in the past?

"Why?" Darren asked. He had reigned in his anger and put his beast to sleep. He didn’t need that right now. "The shifters are not comfortable with having you around around,"

Though they would prefer staying with vampires rather than humans, they were still wary of them. They could kill the humans easily but that could not be said about the vampires especially since they have similar weaknesses.

"So this as a favor, I shall repay it to you," he said looking at Darren and then at Kora. "I promise to keep them safe from my people, I said for now, before, but this time it is a promise," he said looking directly at Kora and her belly. He showed her his palm and used the other hand, with an elongated nail, to make a claw. He cut a cross on his palm, and little drops of blood fell from it before it healed, leaving no sign of the cut.

"Dmitri?" Cillia yelled realizing what he had just done.

"My Lord?"

"Lord Dmitri?"

The surprise was also on the faces of Azrail and Leroy. They may not have seen that being done before, but they knew the meaning behind it. Why would he do that?

The shifters sitting opposite them did not understand a thing but they knew it was a big deal seeing their reaction.

"Indeed, gathering all the vampires around the world in one place like this would not be possible, we would need more space," he said, confusing the people including Leroy and Azrail. Were there more vampires that their territory could not house and shelter?

Kora touched her belly and then looked up at Dmitri and then at her mate beside her.

["What is it?"] he asked through his mind link.

[" He just vowed to protect our baby,"] she said and there was a look of surprise on Darren’s face. ["He can’t break it even if he wants to,"] she informed him.

He nodded but frowned when he realized that Dmitri already knew about her being pregnant when exactly did he know that? "How long have you known?" he asked Dmitri directly.

"I see she has told you, well, since two nights ago," he replied, "I mean it, she knows that," he said and his tone became serious.

In all of these, three people remained clueless about what they were talking about including the reason why the switch and vampires opposed whatever Dmitri had done.

"You said your territory won’t be enough, do you plan to release them?" Korra asked and he nodded. "Will you help us gather the shifters as well, all of them?"

"You think they will still be alive until now? I highly doubt that, I was told that besides the wolves there are no others unless you tell me otherwise," he said putting his chin on his knuckles.

"I do," she said and the vampire smiled very brightly.

"Very well," he said, raising his chin and intertwining his fingers. "Do we have a deal?"

"Yes, it’s a deal," Darren replied. The vampire already knew about the shifters that Gaia had asked them to find, he would most likely have more information on the type of places they like to stay and hide, so his help would be valuable. They were running out of time, wasting too much could cost them all.

"I still don’t understand what is happening here," Dana said looking at Darren and Kora. As much as she would love to return to the pack before asking questions, there would be no time for that because they had other things to do the very moment they returned to the Blood Moon pack.

"Our dear lord Dmitri has offered his assistance in gathering the shifters," Kora informed and Dana shifted her gaze to the vampire lord. Their gaze locked for the first time since their meeting and she almost regretted doing it. He stared at her with animosity. The hatred in his eyes was not hidden.

She looked beside him and found her ’mother’ sitting there and finally understood. He did not like seeing her because she was the ’daughter’ of his woman with another man. She smirked, happy to have found something that could trigger his anger.

"Well, thank you, Lord Dmitri," she said with the smirk still playing on her lips.

His dark eyes glazed over and the color changed to crimson, a perfect contrast to his pale skin. Lazarus was quick to his hand around his mate right after seeing the look in his eyes of Dmitri.

"You said you won’t... Dmitri, don’t go back on your word," Kora reminded him.

"Tell your mother to behave," he replied to her and the tension in the air flared once again.

"Behave?" Dana took offense, was she a child that she should be told to behave? "Are you saying I am a child?" she asked. Her purple aura sipped out and her eyes also changed color. She would direct her anger at the witch beside him to him since he had decided to look down on her.
