Chapter 38: 38. It is too late for that

"Let’s talk," the man said. Sebastian agreed and Collins didn’t think he was needed there anymore, he and Sebastian may have been close but they were worlds apart when it came down to their temper, seeing him so interested in talking about the demise of Darren with so much venom was not a thing of a surprise to him. Collins turned and walked out of the darkroom no one bothered to stop him and he didn’t care about that anyway.

Collins began asking about the girl that they were expected to capture but no one gave him any reasonable information or the reason why she was needed adding to the fact that she was currently in the Blood moon pack which made things a lot more difficult. He found out that they had tried to catch her three times but they had failed each time. The first was at the Silver Moon pack and the other two times were at the Blood moon pack. And the Alpha of the Blood moon pack, Alpha Lazarus was protective of her.

Collins felt like these people were looking for a reason to get rid of them or better yet, send them to their death. Collins had started regretting not joining Darren even if he had to lose his position as the beta he didn’t have that position now anyways, so what was the point of leaving the pack he had known for so long, served and protected with all he had for many years? He didn’t like Darren but living in his home would have still been better than moving from one pack to the other and finally joining the routes and vampires just to satisfy his ego.

He walked back toward the room that he had left Sebastian in, he held the door handle wanting to open it and go in but he hesitated, after giving some thought to it he turns around and left without going in again, he was not wanted in there if not they would have called for him.

Colin went back to where he and Sebastian had been staying since they joined the ’Alliance’ and sat on a windowsill he gazes out at the sun that shone beautifully above the horizon emotionlessly.

He didn’t know how long he had been sitting there and looking at the sun until Sebastian tapped his shoulder he didn’t even know when Sebastian walked through the door.

"What are thinking about?" Sebastian asked as he studied his friend’s expression which was almost non-existent on his face. "Are you worried about what the captain told us?"

"What do you think?" Collins retorted and shook off Sebastian’s that was hand that was still on his shoulder. "We shouldn’t have come here." He said and Sebastian frowned at him. "I shouldn’t have come here." he rephrased after seeing the expression on Sebastian’s face. "Staying at the pack would have been far better than coming here." Collins continued ignoring the look Sebastian was giving him. "It. Would have much more comfortable too."

"Go backing you want, but I will tell you that it is too late for that," Sebastian said with his arms folded at his chest. "Did you forget that we were banished from the pack by that brat?"

"We could have avoided that from ever happening had we not let our ego overshadow our sense of reasoning, and just accepted him as the alpha, after all, he has alpha blood in his veins," Collins said now standing to his feet. He didn’t the fact Sebastian was looking down at him because he was sitting while he was standing. "And now, do you think that you can beat him? Even our alpha could kit do anything to him, he could not even scratch him and died just before the fight could begin."

"Say all you want, Collins, you and I know that it is too late for that. What is the point of regretting now? Do you think that he will accept you after becoming rogue and ignoring his warnings? You made your choice when it was given to you back then, so don’t regret it now and live with it. Accept the responsibility of your actions and bear the consequences of your decision." Sebastian left Collins alone to his thought once more.

Collins sat back down after Collins left and reflected on what he said and he was right, he decided to leave the pack rather than join Darren as a warrior. Even he should know that there was no way Darren would take him as his beta after everything that he had experienced in the past, if he was Darren, he would do the same and change all those in power and appoint new ones whom he could trust.

He stared out the window looking in the direction of the Shadow moon pack with complicated emotions in his eyes with a painful heart. He failed his people and now he even failed himself as well.

He also wondered who was the new beta and gamma of the pack since Darren trusted no one from there. He has asked around this pace but no one gave him an answer leaving him in total darkness and Sebastian doesn’t seem bothered by that at all.

Reflecting on Sebastian, Collins realized that he was when he said, "Accept responsibility for your decision and bear the consequences of your actions." He wanted to laugh at himself but he couldn’t bring himself to do so.

He couldn’t believe that Sebastian was the one giving him advice now.

Collins shook his head self-deprecatingly and stood up from the windowsill and walked out of the room to get fresh air and clear his mind. He needs to get his priorities in order. Sebastian Dem to have it all figured out while he was having a hard time adjusting to this new life he threw himself into.
