Chapter 114: She Was Innocent

Reputation came naturally from actual distinction. And Janice, who got this opportunity due to her ex-boyfriend, would be definitely looked down upon, even though she had worked quite hard in the role.

She had such concerns at the beginning, but since she had already accepted it, and knew that she shouldn’t let it get to her.

The elevator arrived.

She said, "Thank you, Lucy. I’m OK. You can go back to work."

"What about you? Won’t you come with me?"

Janice answered, "No, I have something to do."

Hearing this, Lucy didn’t ask anymore and entered the elevator.

As soon as the elevator doors were closed, Janice left.

She didn’t want to go back to the office now because she knew her colleagues were gossiping. She didn’t want to provide them with more juicy details.

As soon as she arrived at the entrance of the TV station, she ran into Benjamin.

The two just silently walked past each other.

Benjamin planned to say hello but he saw that she kept her head down and wouldn’t even look at him.

Benjamin had his pride. Since Janice did not want to talk to him, he wasn’t going to force himself to be nice just to please her.

Otherwise, that would embarrass both of them.

He felt very uncomfortable, but he was more unwilling to sour the relationship.

Thinking of this, he continued to walk inside.

Later he met Lucy at the door of the office.

It seemed that Lucy was waiting for him for a while. When she saw him, she immediately went up to him.

"Director Taylor."

Benjamin took out the key and opened the door. "Come in."

Lucy then walked in.

"Director Taylor, do you know Janice’s affair?"

Hearing her words, Benjamin frowned and asked, "Janice? What’s the matter with her?"

Lucy had guessed that Benjamin didn’t know it.

She paused for a moment and said, "I didn’t plan to tell you this, but Janice is under scrutiny now. Her show hasn’t been aired yet, but there are rumors everywhere."

Benjamin was even more confused. "What rumors?"

Lucy bit her lips and continued, "The relationship between you and Janice. It has been spread all over the station."

Benjamin was stunned.

No wonder Janice looked weird just now. It was because of this.

He asked, "What the hell is going on?"

Lucy then told Benjamin what had happened at the press briefing.

Before Lucy could finish her words, Benjamin left in a hurry.

Staring at his departing figure, Lucy sighed in relief. She hoped Director Taylor could help Janice.

"Okay, that’s it. Let’s go on with the original plan."

In the office, as soon as Denise hung up the phone, Benjamin rushed in with anger. "Why did you do this?"

Denise guessed out what he was angry at.

"Director Taylor, you have just returned from a business trip. Why don’t you have a rest at home first?"

Benjamin ignored her words.

"I’ve heard about it. It’s about the warm-up press briefing."

"Really? This has nothing to do with me. The reporters have their freedom to ask."

Benjamin did not believe her at all. Only she knew about the relationship between him and Janice.

How could this have nothing to do with her?

...

He said, "Denise, I don’t care what your purpose is, but you should stop as soon as possible. The new show is about to be aired. If anything goes wrong now, both you and I can’t afford the fallout."

Denise didn’t take his words seriously at all.

"Director Taylor, maybe this is your chance."

"What do you mean?"

Benjamin was puzzled.

Denise ignored him and directly walked out of the door, leaving Benjamin standing there in confusion.

After Janice left the TV station, she called Yvonne. They had made an appointment through WhatsApp. They would hang out for a while at noon.

When Yvonne arrived, she saw Janice’s gloomy face and confusedly asked, "Janice, what’s wrong with you this time? Why do you look unhappy?"

Seeing her friend, Janice did not continue to pretend.

"Yvonne, I am tired."

"Tired?" Yvonne did not understand her. She just thought that she was referring to work so that she comforted, "Then take it easy. What about traveling?"

Janice wanted to explain.

But she was too weary to do so.

"Forget it. Come with me to the museum ahead."

Yvonne nodded and went with her. Later she asked, "What are you doing here?"

Janice said, "I want to buy some moisture-proof materials."

"Moisture- proof materials? But the materials in that museum are all for industrial purposes. If you want to buy some household materials, I can introduce show you some sellers."

Janice said, "What I want is the industrial kind."

"Well," Yvonne was curious about her desire, but she did not ask further.

After coming out of the museum, the two separated. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Seeing that there was still early, Janice went back to Old Mr. Allson’s villa.

"Grandpa."

When she entered the door, Old Mr. Allson was resting on a lounge chair. Hearing her voice, he turned to look at her kindly.

"You came back so early today."

Janice nodded. "Yes, I want to get something."

As she walked upstairs, she remembered something and said, "Grandpa, can you give me the manuscripts?"

Her words surprised Old Mr. Allson.

Janice continued, "I want to help you solve the storage problem."

He thought for a while and said, "Okay."

"Thank you, Grandpa."

In the afternoon, Janice returned to the TV station. although those rumors hurt her a lot, she couldn’t afford to keep missing work.

And even if she had that kind of previous relationship with Benjamin, it was ancient history.

She had no responsibility for announcing her personal affairs to the public.

Seeing Janice return to work, Denise was a little surprised.

She didn’t expect Janice to show her face again in the event of such rumors.

However, this was just the beginning.

She sneered and turned away.

As soon as Denise left, Janice’s phone rang. It was from Christopher. She picked it up.

"I’ll pick you up after work. Let’s go home together."

Janice glanced at the pile of documents in front of her, which were the contents of the next episode.

...

At this time, she was more eager to prove her own ability.

"I have to work overtime tonight. You can go home without me."

Christopher frowned and thought, "It seems that I need to make some food delicious to nourish her body tonight."

As soon as he hung up the phone, Rob came in.

"Mr. Bateman, it’s time for you to play golf with Mr. Pattinson."

Then Christopher got up to walk out with his coat in hand.

On the golf course, Daniel had been waiting there for a long time. When he saw Christopher who dressed informally came over, he went up to him.

"Chris, I haven’t seen you for quite a while."

Christopher frowned. "Quite a while? We only saw each other a few days ago." He walked over to adjust the angle of his club.

Daniel quipped, "It has been half a month. Since you got married, it has been harder for us to catch up."

While he was talking, Christopher had already waved his club. The ball successfully got into the hole. There were cheers all around.

Christopher stopped and looked at Daniel. "Why don’t you just say that you’re too busy dating various girls to meet me?"

Daniel sneered and stopped making fun of him. Then he started playing.

It was already past six o’clock in the evening when the game came to an end.

Christopher looked at the time and though Janice should finish working. So he put away the club and said, "I have to go."

"Why are you in a hurry? Let’s go and have a drink." Daniel said, frowning. Christopher said, "Not tonight. Maybe another day."

He handed the club to Rob and walked toward the locker room.

When he passed by the work area, he heard the discussion of several female employees.

"That’s so romantic."

"Yeah, creating a show for ex-girlfriend. ’Love Never Disappoints Us’. The theme is really romantic."

"I guess they gonna rekindle the past love."

"What show? I’ll watch it too."

"Here, it was on the magazine. The new show of the TV Station, The Tide of Love, will be aired on the weekend."

Hearing that, Christopher stopped in his tracks. He narrowed his eyes and looked at those female employees.

"The Tide of Love?"

If he remembered correctly, that was the name of Janice’s show.

Then he looked at Rob who was coming from behind.

"Find out what magazine they are looking at and buy one for me."

Then he walked towards the locker room.

"Yes."

Rob turned around and walked over.

In the car, Christopher who had already changed his clothes sat there and waited for Rob. He took a glance at the view out of the window.

The lights were already on outside.

Rob came over, sat in the driver’s seat, and handed him a magazine.

"Mr. Bateman, the magazine."

Christopher withdrew his gaze and looked at the magazine. He slowly stretched out his hand to take it.

He flipped through a few pages and found that it was a magazine about fashion.

He had never read such magazine before. If he hadn’t heard that there was the interview about Janice, he wouldn’t have taken a second look at it.

But he soon found the page covering The Tide of Love.

When he saw the contents, his face turned cold.
