"I don’t blame them. If my husband didn’t try to save me, he wouldn’t have gotten injured. I can understand how they feel and why they are doing this." Janice sighed.

Lucy did not speak further on that topic after hearing Janice’s words. "Then what do you plan to do? Just stay here forever?"

Janice shook her head and said, "No, I will find a way but for the time being, I need to get you out first."

"Forget it. Their people are everywhere. It’s impossible for me to get out." Lucy signed.

"Don’t worry. I have a way." Janice tugged on her hand when she saw how discouraged she was. As she spoke, she smiled mysteriously at Lucy then stood up and walked towards the door. Then she said, "I’m going to call Christopher."

After a while, the door opened and a bodyguard handed her a phone. Janice picked up the phone and glanced at Lucy before walking off to the side of the room. After a while, she went out of the room and handed the phone back to the bodyguard. It was unknown what they were talking about but the bodyguard replied "yes" several times on the phone. After that, he hung up the phone and stared at Lucy.

"You can leave now."

Lucy was astonished and instinctively glanced at Janice. Janice’s gaze was filled with determination.

Lucy walked over to her and asked, "Did you promise them something for them to let me go? Janice, you can’t take unnecessary risks just for my sake." Lucy asked worriedly.

"Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing." Janice smiled.

Hearing that, Lucy nodded. She looked at Janice with reluctance. "In that case, what are you going to do after I leave?"

"It’s going to be okay. They won’t hurt me." As she spoke, she reached out to hug Lucy and whispered into her ear, "When you get out, remember to help me visit my husband at the hospital."

Lucy nodded and whispered into her ear, "I left something for you. It’s under the sofa I’m sitting on."

She walked off, turned and waved at Janice then left with the bodyguards.

Janice stood there and watched Lucy’s silhouette disappear before walking to the sofa. She remembered what Lucy said before she left, she rummaged through the sofa and found the mobile phone Lucy had left behind. Janice was quite emotional as she held the phone. Fortunately, with this phone, she could now know Christopher’s whereabouts at any time.

At the hospital.

"Where’s Janice?"

Old Mr. Allson woke up and looked around. When he didn’t see Janice, he was curious.

Amelia peeled an apple as she said, "I heard that they went to the police station to cooperate with the investigation. They should be back soon."

Old Mr. Allson nodded when he heard this and did not enquire further. Amelia fed an apple to him, and he tried to strike up a conversation with her. "How is Chris?"

Hearing this, Amelia’s hand peeling the apple paused and said, "The doctor said that all his indicators are very stable. I believe that he will wake up soon."

Old Mr. Allson nodded. "Very well then."

"Dad, let’s continue to eat apples." Amelia did not want her father to pay too much attention to her son, so she changed the topic.

Old Mr. Allson did not ask any more questions. He opened his mouth and ate the piece of fruit.

Suddenly, the door to the ward opened. Nanny Daisy rushed in and spoke excitedly. "Mr. Allson, Ms. Wanda, Mr. Bateman’s doctor said that he has woken up."

Amelia was stunned when she heard this. She stood up excitedly and said, "I’ll go take a look."

With that, she handed Nanny Daisy the apple and left in a hurry.

...

In the ward on the other side.

Christopher slowly opened his eyes and what came into view was a bright incandescent light bulb. The light was a little dazzling. He subconsciously reached out to block out the light, but he found that his arm was fixed and he could not move.

"Chris, are you awake?" A soft female voice floated into his ear.

He looked in the direction of the voice and saw Sophie’s faintly discernible face. She seemed slightly excited.

"Chris, are you thirsty? I’ll give you some water."

With that, she turned around and went to the water dispenser to get some water then hand it to him.

Christopher did not reach out to take it. Instead, he stared blankly at the ceiling, as if he was thinking about something.

Seeing this, Sophie put down the cup of water.

"Chris, you have been in a coma for three days and three nights."

"Three days and three nights?" Only then did Christopher frown and thought to himself, "I have been in a coma for so long?"

"Yes, you don’t know how anxious Dad and I were. By the way, he still doesn’t know that you woke up. I’ll call him now."

While saying this, she was about to get her cell phone to make a call, just then Amelia rushed into the room.

When Sophie saw Amelia, she instinctively put down her phone with a guilty conscience and nodded.

Amelia did not even bother to give her a glance as she ran to the side of the bed.

"Chris, my dear boy, you’re finally awake. I was scared to death." Amelia stepped forward and hugged Christopher tightly.

Christopher frowned uncomfortably. "Let go of me first. I’m about to suffocate."

"Yes, yes, yes, you just woke up." Only then did Amelia remember that he was injured. She quickly let go of him and wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. She asked, "Does the wound still hurt?"

Christopher shook his head.

"That’s good, but you still have to be careful since you just woke up." Amelia carefully backed away.

Christopher then asked in confusion, "Mom, how did I get into the hospital? And what’s with this wound?"

Amelia was startled by his sudden question. "You... don’t remember?" Christopher shook his head in confusion.

Amelia froze for a moment but she recalled that his injuries were too severe so it was normal for him to forget what had happened. She said, "Let me show you some news."

As she spoke, she swiped the screen across her phone and handed it over to him.

Christopher took the phone and looked at the few big words on the screen in confusion.

"In recent days, the city has solved the biggest dog abuse case. According to the police’s introduction, it’s all thanks to Mr. Christopher Bateman’s help that this case can be solved..."

Christopher’s eyes were fixed on the words and he frowned.

"So, I was injured because of that?"

"You can say that, but not entirely. The main reason is..."

"Chris, Dad said that he would be here soon."

Amelia was about to say that it was to save Janice that he got injured when she was interrupted by Sophie. Amelia was slightly unhappy, "What are you doing here?"

Faced with Amelia’s question, Sophie quickly replied, "Dad went back to the office and asked me to stay here to keep an eye on Chris, so I..."

"There’s no need now. I’m here. You can leave." Amelia warned unceremoniously.

Sophie pursed her lips and was about to speak, but Nanny Daisy rushed in. "Miss Wanda, the old man said he wants to get out of bed to visit Mr. Bateman. I can’t stop him."

Amelia hurriedly got up when she heard this. "Nonsense, how can he get out of bed? I’ll be right there."

With that, she turned to Christopher and said, "I’m going to visit your grandfather. I’ll come back later."

She left in a hurry.

She did not have time to care about Sophie.

After Amelia left, Sophie went forward and said, "Chris, are you bored? Do you want me to read the news for you?"

Her gaze naturally fell on the news article he had just skimmed through.

Christopher did not notice that Sophie was talking to him. He was just staring at the news and the words of the interview, lost in thought.

"Why? I don’t have any impression of this." He muttered in a low voice.

However, Sophie heard every single word clearly and she couldn’t help but be bewildered in her heart.

"Don’t you remember?" Thinking of this, she was delighted and asked, "Then... do you remember how you got into the hospital?"

Christopher thought for a moment but his face was full of confusion.

Sophie was about to say something when Nathan entered the room.

"Dad." She turned around to welcome him.

Nathan stopped and looked at Christopher, who was lying in bed, staring at his phone. He asked, "How’s it going?"

Sophie didn’t reply, instead she pulled Nathan to the side and said in a low voice, "Chris seems to have forgotten what happened before."

Stunned, Nathan asked, "Have you asked the doctor what’s going on?"

Sophie shook her head. "I just found out."

Nathan thought for a moment and said, "No one else is allowed to know this. I’ll ask the doctor."

With that, he turned to look at Christopher, who was looking down at his phone, then he turned and walked out of the ward.

After Nathan left, Sophie walked back and said, "Chris, you’re just fine. It’s better if you don’t look at your phone. How about I read it for you?"

With that, she reached for the phone in his hand, but was stopped by Christopher. He said unceremoniously. "Get out."

Sophie was stunned but she nodded with grievance.

"Okay." Then she turned around and walked out reluctantly, closing the door behind her.

However, when she thought of Christopher’s attitude toward her, she felt extremely indignant. Why did he still treat her like this when he clearly didn’t remember what had happened? Which aspect of her was inferior to that woman?

Sophie thought with hatred but she suddenly remembered something and turned to walk towards the doctor’s office.

In the office, Nathan was discussing with the attending doctor.

When Sophie entered, she happened to hear the doctor say, "Your son’s abnormality is probably caused by excessive blood loss and a partial amnesia caused by lack of oxygen in his brain."

"Can it be cured?"

"That’s hard to say. It’ll all depend on his recovery in the future."

Sophie’s eyes flashed when she heard this and she seemed to have thought of

something else. She hurriedly turned around and walked back, then took out her phone to make a call.

"You can come back now."

After giving instructions, she put away the phone but the corners of her mouth were raised happily.

In the ward.

Christopher leaned against the bed and he had put his mobile phone on the side. When he thought of the content of the news, he could not help frowning. Why did he not have any impression of those events, as if they had never happened? It’s so strange. What was going on?

He could not figure it out. Looking around the empty ward, he felt that something was missing. But what that was, he could not say.

At this time, the door opened. Christopher thought that Sophie had come back. He was about to tell her to leave again, when he turned around and saw his mother coming in. He had no choice but to restrain his emotions.

Amelia seemed to detect something. "What’s wrong? You look so angry."

...

Christopher didn’t say anything. He just shook his head and subconsciously looked behind Amelia, having the feeling that someone was following her.

"What are you looking at?" Amelia asked puzzled.

Christopher shook his head and asked, "By the way, how is Grandpa?"

Amelia replied, "He’s alright. Just old and more willful."

Christopher had only one more question, "When can I be discharged from hospital?"

Amelia replied, "How can it be that fast? Your back was pierced through, and it almost pierced your heart. You need to stay in the hospital for a while longer"

Christopher on the other hand, was a little agitated. "Staying here is uncomfortable. I want to be discharged from the hospital as soon as possible."

Amelia knew what kind of a person he was and she knew that she had to comply with his wishes. She said, "Okay, okay, okay. As long as the doctor says that you can be discharged from the hospital after a physical examination, I won’t stop you." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Christopher nodded, but glanced at the door again.

"Are you waiting for someone?" Amelia asked.

Christopher did not say anything and only looked elsewhere. He did not know what was going on, but he felt that there seemed to be someone missing.

"Are you looking for Janice?" Amelia seemed to sense something and said in a slightly annoyed manner.

Christopher seemed to be lost in his thoughts.

Amelia did not notice his reaction. She continue to say, "In the past few days, the police have called for assistance on the case. This case has caused a stir all over the country. Son, you being called a hero for what you did."

Christopher was not interested at all. He did not want to be a hero at all.

That evening, Janice received a call from Lucy. She hid herself in the room and answered the phone.

"Janice, I’ve gone to the hospital to find out. Your husband has woken up," said Lucy. "Is that so?" Janice was thrilled. "That’s great! Chris is awake! He’s finally awake!"

"Did you see him? How is he? Does his wound still hurt? Can he get out of bed and walk?" She continued.

"You asked me so many questions. Which one should I answer first?" Lucy frowned. Only then did Janice realized it. "I’m sorry. I’m too excited. Take your time." Lucy paused for a moment before saying, "Actually, I didn’t see your husband.

Someone is guarding the door and not letting anyone in. I was only able to ask the hospital staff."

"Oh, I see." Janice was a little disappointed.

Lucy continued, "But I’ve applied for an interview with the station. I’ll go to the hospital tomorrow to interview your husband. I’ll be able to see him then. Do you have anything you want me to say to him?"

Janice thought for a moment. "It’s okay. He just woke up. I don’t want him to get affected because of me."

"But, if you don’t tell him, how are you going to get out? You can’t possibly stay there forever, right?" Lucy asked worriedly.

Janice knew that if Christopher was aware that she was locked up, he would definitely come to rescue her. But that would definitely affect his recovery. After all, his injury was serious, and she had already hurt him once before. She could not afford to injure him a second time.

"I will think of another way to handle this matter. But I can’t let him worry about me right now."

"All right then." There was nothing much Lucy could say.

After hanging up the phone, Janice’s mood finally improved a lot. It didn’t matter if she had to suffer for a few days locked up, as long as Christopher could recover. Thinking of this made her feel much more relieved.

The next afternoon, Lucy went to Christopher’s ward with the interview team from the TV station.

When she went in, there were still other reporters in the ward, so she could only queue up and wait for her turn.
