Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 189: You Can Leave Now
"Mr. Bateman, we are from the Tomaville TV station. We would like to interview you on your heroic deeds." Finally, it was Lucy White’s turn. As soon as she stepped forward and handed over the microphone, little did she know that as she approached, Sophie Valen immediately recognized her as Janice Gladwell’s colleague.
Before Christopher Bateman could reply, she stopped him and said, "Mr. Bateman is tired today and needs to rest. Let’s meet another day."
As she said that, she gave a look to the bodyguard who quickly ushered them out of the room.
When Lucy saw this, she hurriedly called out, "Mr. Bateman, your wife, Janice Gladwell..."
Before she could finish speaking, Sophie immediately interrupted, "Chris, it’s time for you to take your medicine."
As she spoke, she reached out to take the medicine bottle and walked over to Christopher, but Christopher dodged her.
"I’ll do it myself." As he spoke, he poured out the pills and raised his head to pop down the pills. A bitter taste surged into his taste buds. He frowned and picked up the glass of water to take a sip.
"You can leave now." He said with an expressionless face.
Sophie did not anything more and except, "Chris, have a good rest. I’ll be back in the evening."
Christopher ignored him, staring at nothing in front of him.
Lucy returned to the TV station disappointed. As soon as she returned to her seat, she was called by Chief Gray.
"Lucy, what’s wrong with you? The TV station received complaints that you affected the patient’s rest." Chief Gray scolded her immediately.
"I’m sorry, Chief Gray. I didn’t do it on purpose." Lucy said.
"All right, you are also an experienced reporter. Why don’t you be more prudent? Don’t go again."
"Why?" Lucy did not understand.
"The Batemans said that if our TV station wants to interview him, we must send another reporter." Chief Gray said.
Lucy was enraged when she heard this. Sophie clearly did this on purpose.
She just didn’t want Lucy to go in. It was unreasonable, but it was not up to Chief Gray either. She could only accept her bad luck.
Lucy had just walked out of Chief Gray’s office when her phone rang. She saw that it
was Janice who was calling.
She suddenly remembered that she had promised Janice that she would send her a video of the interview. What should she do now? How was she supposed to explain this to Janice? She hesitated for a moment before answering the phone.
"Lucy, how was your interview today?"
Sure enough, Janice’s anxious voice resounded from the other side of the line.
Lucy immediately felt a bit guilty.
"I’m sorry, Janice. I was thrown out before I could get close to Mr. Bateman."
Hearing this, a trace of disappointment appeared on Janice’s face. She had waited for a whole day for Lucy’s video. However, when she thought of Sophie being in the hospital, it was expected.
She said, "It’s all right. I know you’ve tried your best."
Even though Janice said this, Lucy still felt a bit upset in her heart. She sat there alone for a long time, until the surrounding lights went off before going out. As soon as she walked out of the building of the TV station, she saw a familiar car parked at the door. She remembered that this car could be Benjamin Taylor’s.
Sure enough, when she walked closer to the car, she saw a person sitting in the driver’s seat. It was indeed Benjamin.
Benjamin saw her, opened the door and got out of the car. "Are you off work?"
Lucy nodded and asked with puzzlement, "Director Taylor, why are you here?"
Benjamin’s expression was awkward as he said, "I was passing by and somehow ended up parking here."
Lucy knew he was not telling the truth.
She said, "You’re not here to see Janice, are you?"
A trace of unease flashed across Benjamin’s face, but he did not give any explanation, which could be regarded as give tacit admission that Lucy was right.
As expected, Lucy frowned and said, "Don’t you know? Janice is not at the TV station."
...
"Not at the TV station?" Benjamin Taylor was confused.
"Yeah, haven’t you read the news recently?" Lucy White was surprised.
Benjamin shook his head. "I just came back from a business trip abroad."
"Oh, no wonder you didn’t know," Lucy said.
Looking at her expression, Benjamin realized something was wrong. "What’s wrong? What happened?"
Lucy hesitated for a moment before saying, "Janice is dragged into a case about a tortured dog. It’s a long story. In short, she very in need for help now."
So, Lucy told Benjamin about Janice being imprisoned by the Batemans. Benjamin frowned after listening to Lucy. How could such a thing happen? Suddenly, as if he thought of something, he said to Lucy.
"Thank you for your hard work."
Then he turned around, got into the car and drove away in a hurry. Lucy, on the other hand, stared at the departing car, feeling a little depressed. It was so late into the night. Since she had already bumped into him, why didn’t he send her off? Really.
Benjamin drove very fast, recalling in his mind what Lucy had just said. "Janice is now imprisoned in the Batemans’ villa in the suburbs."
He knew that Nathan Bateman did not like Janice Gladwell, but he did not expect that he would do such a thing. Thinking of this, made him drove even faster. Very soon, the car stopped in front of the Batemans’ old house. He opened the car door and alighted from the car.
"I would like to see Mr. Bateman."
Uncle Charlie recognized him and opened the door to welcome him in. In the study, Nathan Bateman was sitting there reading a book.
Benjamin walked in and said, "Mr. Bateman, I came uninvited. Excuse me."
Nathan Bateman glanced at him. "Have a seat."
Only then did Benjamin sit down.
"I heard that you imprisoned Janice." Benjamin said directly.
"Why? You want to interfere in this?" Nathan raised his brows.
Benjamin paused then said, "This is your family matter, and it is not convenient for me to say anything about it. However, I think it is a little risky for you to do this. According to your son’s character, I am afraid he will not let it go."
Hearing that, Nathan put down the book and said, "I don’t mind telling you that my
son has already forgotten that woman." "Forgotten?" Benjamin did not quite understand.
Nathan stood up and walked up to him. He sat down next to him and said, "You’re not an outsider. I don’t mind telling you that my son has completely forgotten what had happened that day after he woke up, and he has never mentioned that woman again. The doctor said that he suffered from memory loss due to excessive blood loss."
Benjamin did not expect such a thing to happen. For a moment, he was too stunned to react.
"Thus, your opportunity has arrived."
Nathan patted him on the shoulder earnestly.
After leaving the Batemans, Benjamin kept thinking about what Nathan Bateman had just said.
"My son has forgotten that woman after he woke up. Your opportunity has come."
No, he did not believe that there could be such a coincidence. He did not believe it unless he saw it with his own eyes. So, he turned the steering wheel and headed for the hospital.
In the ward building of the hospital.
Yvonne White was on the night shift today. After checking the ward, she was had just entered the elevator when she heard colleagues talking about something.
"Have you heard? The one in the VIP room for surgery woke up yesterday."
"Really? That’s a miracle. A few days ago, he was even issued a Crisis Notice in Critical Care."
"That’s right. One will be blessed if he or she survives a great disaster."
The two colleagues were whispering to each other. A thought came to Yvonne and she asked, "Are you talking about the one from the Batemans?"
The two colleagues nodded.
Yvonne could not help but become excited when she heard this. "That’s great. Janice can finally relax now. All is good."
However, she had not seen her for a few days.
...
Yvonne White took out her phone and dialed Janice Gladwell’s number. However, a cold female voice came from the other end of the line.
"The cell phone you are calling, is turned off?"
Yvonne frowned.
Could it be that her cell phone had run out of battery?
While she was wondering, the door of the elevator opened and stopped on the floor of the VIP rooms which were on the seventeenth floor. Yvonne thought for a moment then decided to head out of the elevator. She asked her colleague for Christopher Bateman’s ward number and walked over. However, as soon as she reached the door, she was stopped by two men in black.
Yvonne was puzzled. "What are you doing here?"
"You can’t enter Miss," said the man in black.
Yvonne found it very odd and asked, "Can’t you tell? I’m a doctor."
She pointed at her name tag that also showed her work title. But the two men clad in black were expressionless.
"Not all doctors can go in casually just like that."
Yvonne was furious. "This is a hospital. Who do you think you are? I must go in today."
As she spoke, she was preparing to force her way in.
"What’s wrong?"
A woman’s voice suddenly came from behind.
When the men saw the lady, one of them reported, "Miss Valen, this doctor insisted on entering the room."
Only then did Sophie Valen walk forward. When she saw Yvonne, she instantly remembered that this was Janice’s doctor friend. She had been accompanying Janice for the past few days.
She said, "So, it’s you."
When Yvonne saw Sophie, she understood. No wonder they refused to let her in. It turned out that this white lotus was blocking her way. She said, "So what if it’s me?"
No wonder they had refused to let her in. So it was this conniving woman who was blocking her way. She said, "So what if it’s me?"
Sophie snorted, "I wonder why Miss White is here."
Yvonne felt that it was ridiculous. "What a joke. This is a hospital and I’m a doctor. Why do I need to report to you?"
However, Sophie had a mocking smile on her face when she heard her words. "Miss White, Chris needs rest. He can’t be disturbed."
Yvonne sneered. "I’m a doctor. I’m here for a routine check-up. How is that ’disturbing’?"
"As far as I know, you’re not among the doctors in charge of Chris, are you?" Sophie exposed.
Yvonne’s expression was slightly awkward.
"So what? Our positions are always on rotation. Can’t it be my turn today?"
Sophie felt that these words were too ridiculous and she said.
"Miss White, I think you probably don’t know yet. Chris’ doctor was requested by my father personally. Most of them are top experts, and people like you are not qualified at all."
"You..."
Yvonne gritted her teeth in hatred, but for the sake of not creating a scene at the hospital, she sucked it up. "Okay, you’d better stay here all the time."
She turned around and left angrily.
Sophie sneered and turned to enter the ward.
The more Yvonne thought about it, the angrier she became. "Why can that bitch strut around here? I don’t believe that I can’t get in." Just then, something hit her, she gave James Taylor a call.
"Where are you?"
"What’s the matter? I am in Europe."
"Forget it."
Yvonne hung up the phone.
James, who was in a meeting, was confused.
Yvonne calmed down. She felt that something was wrong. It had been a few days since she had last seen Janice. Logically speaking, if Christopher had woken up, then the one accompanying him should be Janice Gladwell. How could it be that sly woman? No, she had to get to the bottom of this.
Thinking of this, she called again, but Janice’s phone was still powered off.
Yvonne felt that something was amiss. But thinking back about how Janice had been treated in the hospital a few days ago, she decided not to think too much into the matter and got up to walk out of the hospital. However, as soon as she walked out of the hospital’s main door, she ran into Benjamin Taylor, who was about to enter the hospital.
