Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 31: Do You Mind Visiting The Psychiatrist?
Christopher couldn’t help but chuckle.
"I’m just kidding. There’s some pre-packaged food in the fridge. Dinner will be ready soon."
He took the ingredients and went into the kitchen.
Janice let out a sigh of relief after he left.
She had no choice but to turn around and went to the living room. She was hesitating and wondering how to tell him about it.
She still couldn’t come up with a solution until Christopher finished cooking.
Christopher made two sandwiches and some mushroom soup. Although it was a simple meal, it was more delicious than the food in the restaurants outside.
At the dining table, Janice was eating her sandwich while staring at Christopher, who was sitting opposite her, hesitating on whether she should bring up the matter to Christopher.
Christopher saw her and knew that she had something to say. He asked, "What’s the matter?"
For a moment, Janice was startled before she asked hesitantly, "Um... Chris, can I ask you a question?"
Christopher nodded. "Go ahead."
Janice thought for a moment and asked reluctantly, "Do you... Do you mind visiting the psychiatrist?"
She proposed hesitatingly.
Christopher was drinking his mushroom soup and he almost choked when he heard Janice’s question. He took a tissue to wipe the soup from the corner of his mouth and lifted his head to ask.
"Why would you ask that?"
Janice felt guilty. She played with her food on the plate and stammered, "I... I have an interview with a patient. He has mental issues, but he doesn’t want to see a psychiatrist. So I thought of investigating this matter myself to see if people are willing to visit the psychiatrist if they are sick."
She was extremely frustrated after she said that. She didn’t know if she could fool Christopher with such a lame excuse.
She lowered her head guiltily at that thought. She tried to appear aloof and continue eating her sandwich. She didn’t even dare to look at him, for fear that he would see through her lies.
However, Christopher observed her reaction with a hint of amusement in his eyes. "No, if one is mentally ill, he should visit a psychiatrist."
He picked up the cup beside him and took a sip of water.
Janice stopped eating after she heard him. She looked at him and asked, "Really? You... really think so?"
Christopher nodded. "Of course."
Janice was relieved when she heard Christopher’s answer. If that was the case, then what she did wouldn’t be considered as invading his privacy since he agreed on his own will.
Janice thought and continued.
"How about this? Can you accompany me tomorrow and show him how it should be done?"
Christopher frowned. "Why me?"
Janice paused for a while and said, "Because... because both of you are men, and it’s more convincing if you do it."
After she finished her sentence, Janice caught him staring at her without a word. For a moment, she was a little flustered and wondered if he had seen through her lies.
Panicked, she continued.
"If... If you’re not willing to go, just ignore me and pretend that I’ve not said anything."
She lowered her head and ate silently.
Christopher stared at her as she lowered her head silently. Actually, from the moment she opened her mouth, he knew what she was planning, but he didn’t expose her lies.
He didn’t expect Janice to be so persistent to the point of wanting him to visit a psychiatrist.
It seemed that he would let her down if he decided not to go.
He smiled at that thought and agreed. "Okay, I’ll go with you tomorrow."
"Really? That’s great."
Janice didn’t expect that he would agree. She couldn’t control her happiness and their gazes met at that moment. She quickly turned away.
"I mean, thank you for accompanying me."
Janice said guiltily.
Christopher was silent.
"Yvonne, please make an appointment for me. I’ve made up my mind. I’ll take him there tomorrow."
...
After dinner, Christopher went to the kitchen to clean up, while Janice hid in the bathroom and called Yvonne secretly.
On the other side of the phone, Yvonne replied, "Okay."
They chatted for a while before ending the call.
Janice thought of something after hanging up. Even if she tricked Christopher to go to the hospital tomorrow, what could she do if he didn’t want to face his problem?
After all, they couldn’t tell the psychiatrist his problem in advance.
Janice couldn’t help but worry at that thought.
Nevertheless, she realized that a patient should be responsible for his own illness. It was useless for others to worry about his condition.
She could only pray that Christopher would let go of his pride and confess to the psychiatrist tomorrow.
With this thought in mind, Janice went to sleep.
It was a Saturday so they didn’t have to go to work. Janice brought Christopher to the hospital according to the appointed time.
When they arrived at the hospital, Janice was thinking about how she could cover up for her lies later.
After all, there was no patient to be interviewed and she could be exposed easily.
She thought about it all the way until she reached the entrance of the clinic. Finally, she thought of an excuse.
So she told him, "Chris, why don’t you go in and have a chat with the psychiatrist first? My interviewee has yet to arrive. After all, it’s not easy to get an appointment with the doctor. It would be a pity if the appointment was canceled."
Christopher knew what Janice was up to. He nodded and said, "No problem."
Janice thought it was weird since Christopher agreed so readily. She had thought that she would need to create more excuses and she didn’t expect that one excuse would be sufficient.
She hurriedly said, "Go in first, I’ll wait for him at the entrance." Christopher nodded and walked into the clinic under her watchful eyes.
Janice saw him walking in with her own eyes and sighed in relief. However, instead of going waiting for the interviewee as she had told him, she hid in a corner.
Christopher entered the room.
The psychiatrist looked up and was surprised. After all, she was a professional. With just one look, she could tell if the patient was mentally ill.
It was obvious that Christopher wasn’t mentally ill.
"Sir, are you here for a checkup?"
Christopher was silent. He sat down on the chair and said, "I have some questions on mental illness but I’m not ill."
"Ok, what do you want to know?"
Christopher paused for a while and said, "How can I eliminate fear in one’s heart?"
Outside the room, Janice was waiting anxiously.
After all, she had tricked Christopher into visiting the psychiatrist. She wasn’t sure if he would confess his problems willingly to the psychiatrist.
What should she do if he never disclosed? Would it prove that he wasn’t aware of his problems at all?
Just as Janice was deep in thought, she saw Christopher walking out of the clinic.
She was surprised. The consultation was quick.
She quickly went up to him.
"Christopher, why did you come out so soon?"
Christopher replied," Of course, I’ve finished the consultation."
Janice paused for a moment and asked, "What did the psychiatrist say?"
She realized Christopher was staring at her after she finished. She realized her slip of the tongue and quickly covered up by saying, "I mean... what did you say to the psychiatrist inside? And what did she say?"
She stared at Christopher carefully after she finished her sentence, waiting for his reply.
