Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 56: He Might Be A Swindler
Thinking of this, Janice tried to call him but no one answered.
She was a little depressed.
So, what did he usually do after she went to work?
No.
The more Janice thought about it, the more irritated she felt.
This was a question.
It didn’t matter if Christopher didn’t have money, but he couldn’t do anything illegal.
This was a serious question.
At the thought of this, Janice felt a prickle of disquiet.
But she couldn’t get in touch with Christopher now. What should she do? Just as she was feeling anxious, the phone rang. She quickly picked it up. "Janice, I’m in a bad mood today. Can you come out and keep me company?" Yvonne’s voice came through.
At this time, Janice was also in a bad mood. She said, "Yvonne, I’m sorry. I have something to do. I may not come."
"Ah? I see. OK."
Hearing her disappointed voice, Janice felt guilty. After all, she was her best friend.
She should stay with her best friend when she was in a bad mood.
However, what about Christopher?
She gradually realized that even if she asked, would he really tell the truth? Janice felt conflicted again.
Since she couldn’t get in touch with him now, she might as well go find Yvonne first.
Thus, she called Yvonne.
"Yvonne, send me the address. I’ll look for you."
After hanging up the phone, Janice went out.
When she arrived at the address Yvonne gave her, she found a small bar.
It was probably not open yet. When she went in, she saw the waiter preparing.
And there was only one guest, Yvonne, in the bar.
She walked over.
Yvonne sat there with a bottle of whiskey in front of her. She had already drunk one-third of it.
Janice frowned. "Why did she drink so much in the daylight?"
She sat down and asked, "Yvonne, what’s the matter?"
Yvonne sniffed and said, "Janice, here you come. I’m so upset."
"Tell me."
Janice quickly handed over a piece of tissue.
Yvonne took it, wiped her eyes, and said, "You don’t know how badly my father scolded me when I went back last night. He said that I was selfish. He also said that I disgraced the White family. Why did he care so much about such a bad man?"
Yvonne complained.
Janice reached out to stroke her back to comfort her, but her heart was also filled with melancholy.
She did not expect Yvonne would also suffer such things since she had a rich family. "Why don’t you speak?"
Yvonne complained for a long time. When she realized that Janice did not say a word, she frowned and asked.
Janice looked at her for a moment and then said, "Yvonne, actually, I’m not in a good mood either today."
Hearing what she said, Yvonne asked while wiping her tears, "What’s wrong with you?"
Janice hesitated for a moment and then said, "I think I may know why my husband was willing to marry me."
Yvonne looked at her and asked, "Why?"
Janice looked around and whispered, "He... maybe a swindler."
"What? A swindler?"
Yvonne exclaimed.
Janice quickly said, "Keep your voice down."
She looked around and was relieved when she found that the waiters did not look over.
Yvonne asked curiously, "Why did you say so?"
Janice then told her about the car.
...
"No way, a car worth more than 1.5 million dollars?" Yvonne’s face was full of disbelief.
The White family could be considered a respectable family in Tomaville. Even so, her father had only driven a car worth about 150 thousand dollars.
What did a car worth more than 1.5 million mean?
Janice was not surprised at all when she saw Yvonne’s expression. When she saw the price, she was even more surprised than her.
"Then didn’t you ask where his car came from?"
Yvonne asked again.
Janice shook her head. "He didn’t answer the call."
"Well, then why did you say that he might be a swindler?"
Yvonne was confused.
Janice said, "Think about it. He doesn’t have a job. Where did he get the money to buy such a good car?"
"You’re right."
Yvonne nodded.
Janice sighed, "Now I finally understand why he always read science and technology books."
"Why?" Yvonne asked curiously.
Janice said, "He’s not an expert in science and technology. Why does he keep reading those books? Because he needs to pretend to be an expert and deceive others."
Janice thought of a report she had made, which was similar to this before. It was a group of people who had mastered high-tech skills.
"But didn’t you say that he could design robots?" Yvonne asked.
Janice said, "That’s what he said. How could I know if he designed it?"
"You’re right. But you must be careful. Don’t let him know that you already know."
"Why?" Janice did not understand.
Yvonne said in a low voice, "If he were a swindler and you discovered his secret, he would be able to kill you."
Yvonne’s words made Janice tremble with fear.
"Kill me?"
"Is it that serious?"
"I don’t think he could."
However, she thought that she should not judge a book by its cover.
"Then what should I do?" Janice was flustered. She was planning to ask Christopher about it before.
Yvonne thought for a moment and said, "Don’t worry. Why don’t you pretend that you don’t know and investigate him secretly? You should find the evidence first."
Hearing Yvonne’s words, Janice felt that it was feasible.
When she got home, Christopher was already back. He got close to her when he saw her.
"You’re back."
He tried to take her bag, but she avoided it.
Christopher took back his hand in surprise.
Janice deliberately took a step back to keep a distance between them.
As soon as she saw him, she remembered what Yvonne had said.
So, would he really kill her?
Thinking of this, Janice couldn’t help but feel scared.
Christopher was confused by her strange behavior. So, had she already seen the information on the driving license?
Then his eyes darkened slightly, and he asked tentatively, "When you called me, I was in a meeting and didn’t see it. What’s the matter?"
Thinking of Yvonne’s warning, Janice quickly shook her head. "Nothing." Then she fled back to her room and closed the door.
Christopher wanted to ask her about her driving license, but when he caught up with her, her room was locked.
What’s wrong with her?
Christopher touched his nose and went to take a shower.
But when he came out of the bathroom, the door of the room was still closed.
Christopher felt that something was wrong and knocked on the door.
But there was no response.
He asked, "Janice?"
...
Inside the room, Janice was sitting on her knees on the bed. Hearing Christopher’s voice, she seemed to be frightened and tightly held the pillow.
She was afraid that he would take the spare key, so she replied quickly.
"What’s the matter?"
Christopher said, "It’s late. It’s time to sleep."
Janice paused for a moment and said, "You... go to sleep first. I... I have to stay up late tonight, so I may not sleep with you."
Hearing Janice’s words, Christopher felt a little uneasy. He didn’t know if Janice had seen the information in his driving license.
But when he thought that she might really have work to do, he stopped asking.
"Forget it. I’ll ask her tomorrow."
Then he said.
"Then go to bed early."
In the room, Janice walked to the door gently and listened carefully. She was relieved when she heard his footsteps.
Although she had escaped today, what about the future?
She couldn’t always hide like this.
Janice was irritated.
This night, Janice didn’t sleep well.
When it was daybreak, she immediately got up from the bed, hoping to slip away before Christopher woke up.
After washing up, she quietly walked towards the door. However, just as she walked to the door, Christopher’s voice came behind her.
"Why do you leave so early?"
Janice paused as if she had been caught as a thief. She was very nervous and quickly nodded.
Christopher said, "Wait a minute. Let me change clothes and drive you to the station."
He was about to go back to his room while Janice said.
"No, I don’t have to go out for an interview today. You... don’t have to follow me."
She quickly lowered her head and put on her shoes, then she said.
"I just put the driving license on the dining table." After saying that, she opened the door and ran out.
Staring at her figure, his eyes darkened. Why did he feel that Janice was strange today?
He walked to the dining table and found his driving license. He picked it up and took a look.
But he doubted whether she had seen the information inside.
Janice was listless in the morning. She was not only sleepy but upset. After all, Christopher mattered more to her than anything else now.
Before she figured it out, she couldn’t sit still.
However, how could she investigate such a thing? Should she secretly follow him like a paparazzo?
"Janice, what’s wrong with you today? You’ve been staring blankly."
Lucy couldn’t help asking.
Janice came to her senses and shook her head. "Nothing."
Lucy suddenly approached her and said, "I just heard that there is a beautiful woman in Director Taylor’s office. She seems to be the daughter of some group’s president."
Janice was not in the mood to care about this. She just replied with an "oh" in low spirits.
Lucy did not intend to stop. She continued, "Do you know what her relationship with Director Taylor is? Is she his girlfriend?"
Janice was annoyed at her words. How could she know if that woman was Benjamin’s girlfriend?
She had nothing to do with Benjamin Taylor.
She said, "Lucy, we’d better not pay attention to this."
She said tactfully.
But Lucy said.
"What else should we pay attention to? The show that has been stopped hasn’t started yet. Everyone is not in the mood to work, but caring about Director Taylor."
