Chapter 11: Hero and Magic

After resting for a few days, Caelum finally decided to return to the game world.

He opened his game terminal.

A translucent interface projected into the air.

Scrolling through the list, he selected a game.

[Game: Hero and Magic]

[Enter Game]

A flash of white light.

Caelum vanished and entered the game world.

Hero and Magic was a Western fantasy style adventure game. Unlike the real time combat of Evolution Battle Royale, this was a large open world game.

In other words, players who entered earlier naturally had an advantage. That was one of the defining traits of open world games, and it was not very friendly to newcomers.

The reason Caelum chose this game was simple.

He suspected its power ceiling might be even higher than Evolution Battle Royale.

After entering, he found himself in a dimly lit space. Looking around, he could vaguely make out statues and architecture in a classic fantasy style.

"A temple?"

The game introduction began.

[Fearless hero, guided by fate, you have arrived at the Temple of Rebirth. The blessing of the Goddess of Fate will grant you the power to save the world.]

[Make your choice]

[Fulfill the duty of a hero]

[Drive away all evil and darkness]

[Player: Caelum]

[Level: None]

[Equipment: None]

Perhaps because he had not learned any magic or skills yet, his starting panel was almost empty. Even simpler than his start in Evolution Battle Royale.

A soft hum echoed.

Holy light bloomed from the darkness.

A graceful figure descended slowly. Her gentle and compassionate expression made her seem incredibly approachable, her beauty beyond words.

"Welcome to the Temple of Rebirth, fearless hero."

Light gathered in her hands, forming an elegant longsword. She handed it to Caelum with a smile.

"The path of fighting evil and darkness is filled with hardship. This is my blessing. I hope it will aid you on your journey."

[Obtained Equipment: Blessing of the Goddess of Fate]

"Now, begin your journey."

She spread her arms.

A teleportation magic circle appeared beneath Caelum’s feet and instantly transported him away.

What happened next was shocking.

"Phew."

After sending him off, the goddess’s expression immediately collapsed. One hand on her hip, the other fanning herself, she looked completely annoyed.

Gone was any trace of divine elegance.

"This is so annoying!"

"They’re just going to die soon anyway. Why not send them all straight to the underworld and reincarnate them? Why make me go through all this trouble?"

The more she spoke, the more irritated she became. After a while, she calmed down, then casually opened a betting pool on how long Caelum would survive.

As for saving the world?

What a joke.

Without darkness, there would be no light. Without suffering, there would be no need for gods.

"Come on, place your bets. I say this guy won’t last three years."

Several other goddesses walked out from deeper within the temple, all looking speechless. They silently judged her lack of dignity before placing their bets.

"Two years."

"One year."

"One month."

In short, with gods like these, the world was doomed.

Boom!

A massive rock crashed down not far from Caelum. Dirt splashed across his face. In the distance, the sound of battle roared as cavalry charged forward.

Caelum was startled.

"What the hell!"

He quickly found a slope and hid behind it. That damned goddess had dropped him straight onto a battlefield.

[1. Infinite Arsenal]

[2. Infinite Critical]

[3. Infinite Mana]

Infinite Mana was immediately ruled out.

Infinite Critical was decent, but compared to Infinite Arsenal, it fell short.

Infinite Arsenal was an unlimited storage space. It could store anything and forge materials into weapons, equipment, or items, unleashing power far beyond their original limits.

Its potential and versatility were immense.

[Infinite Arsenal selected]

[Enjoy the game]

Caelum drew the sword given by the goddess.

[Blessing of the Goddess of Fate]

[Type: Weapon Longsword]

[Traits: Sharp]

[Skill: Tier 6 Magic Goddess’s Mercy. Releases a powerful attack capable of destroying a mountain. Usable once per month]

Since the skill was tied to the weapon, even without any magic power, Caelum could still use it.

A thought suddenly crossed his mind.

"Can I reforge this with Infinite Arsenal?"

Strictly speaking, it counted as material.

He activated Infinite Arsenal.

A ripple formed in space before him. He placed the sword into it and began reforging.

[Reforging initiated]

His eyes lit up.

"It actually works?"

Excitement rose as he waited to see the result.

Soon—

[Reforging complete]

The space rippled again. A new sword emerged, vastly different from before.

It radiated authority, like a king ruling over all.

Caelum drew it.

[Merciless Goddess]

[Type: Weapon Longsword]

[Traits: Sharp, Durable]

[Skill: Super Tier Magic Merciless Fate. In the name of fate, grant all life equal death. Single use]

Super Tier Magic.

In this world, magic ranged from Tier 1 to Tier 10.

Super Tier Magic surpassed them all.

Some could permanently alter terrain or weather over vast areas. Others possessed overwhelming destructive power.

All were extremely powerful.

And now, the sword’s skill had jumped from Tier 6 straight to Super Tier.

"That’s insane."

Caelum immediately tried to reforge it again, hoping to exploit a loophole.

Unfortunately, once reforged, it could not be reforged again.

The sword remained unchanged.

A bit disappointed, he peeked over the slope.

Looking at the chaotic battlefield ahead, he felt an itch.

He really wanted to throw a Super Tier Magic into the crowd and see what happened.

That would be quite a sight.
