Chapter 243: The Talents and the Upgrade Crystal

Kai’s eyes widened as Juno spoke.

’Telekinesis... a Master‑Grade Talent.’

He had seen many talents by now... Pathfinder, Sharpshooter, Mechanic, and even rare crafting talents, but this was different.

"You can control things with your mind or something?" Kai asked.

"That’s right..."

Kai nodded in satisfaction.

’Incredible. If he can truly manipulate objects with his mind, then that’s definitely useful. But how strong is it?’

He wanted to test it, but he also knew they were exhausted.

Hunger and thirst had drained them to the point of collapse.

"Alright," Kai said as he looked at the six foreign Survivors.

"We’ll talk more about your talents later. For now, everyone eats."

The survivors’ eyes lit up as Kai and his Guild members distributed the food packs. Cracked bowls and chipped jars were filled with steaming soup, dried fruits, and ration bars. After weeks of struggling, the shelter smelled of real food.

Children laughed as they sipped juice from the Superior packs, while mothers clutched them tightly with tears streaming down their faces.

As they ate, Juno explained further.

"My Telekinetic Talent automatically gave me the Gene Skill Telekinesis... It’s different from other talents."

Kai paused as he heard this.

"Wait... You have a Gene Skill by default?"

"That’s right. I think Talents like mine had that perk. There are others like me in the World Chat though. I saw some of them talking about it."

"Ah... I don’t regularly check the World Chat. I’m only checking the Chat at night before sleeping. I guess I’ll try to keep updated from now on."

"You should..." Juno said. He was genuinely shocked that Kai wasn’t always updated in the World Chat.

He remembered that when he reached Level 20, he’d always be in the World Chat, carefully considering when to use his limited daily chats.

Well, there’s no internet here after all. There wasn’t really that much to do if the enemies weren’t attacking them and if there was food around.

This time, however, it seemed that he had a lot of work to do.

Anyway, Juno continued to explain.

"I can move objects with Spirit Energy. Small things for now, but with training, I can probably push further. I just need more Skill Points"

Kai gently nodded... "That’s amazing." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Yes. It drains Spirit Points quickly, but it’s useful. I can lift weapons, block attacks, even throw debris. It’s why I survived this long."

Claire and Mei exchanged glances, clearly impressed. Even Steven looked proud to have Juno among them.

Kai then turned his attention to the other three Foreign Survivors. "What about the rest of you? Tell me your talents."

The first man, a burly figure with calloused hands, spoke. "Mine is Sculptor Talent. It’s... not combat‑related. I can shape stone and wood more easily, refine materials faster. It’s only a Rare Grade, but it helps with shelter repairs."

Kai nodded thoughtfully. "That’s still useful. Crafting and construction are vital for survival."

He didn’t expect to find a sculptor here...

"I hope that if you reach a higher level, your sculptures will have some kind of special effects."

"I was hoping for that too... Have you read about the Legendary Moonlight Sculptor?"

"Nah... Sorry about that," Kai replied, unsure if it was some sort of movie or drama...

In any case, the second foreign survivor, stepped forward. "I have Quick Feet Talent. Superior Grade. It boosts my speed and agility. I can outrun most enemies, dodge attacks, and carry supplies faster. It’s saved me more than once... But it heavily relies on my Stamina and Spirit Points. If I’m hungry, I can’t really run fast even if I have enough Spirit Points."

Kai gave a faint smile. "Got it... You will be well-fed from now on."

The man chuckled at that and hoped that it was true.

Finally, the third survivor, a quiet young man with soot‑stained fingers, spoke hesitantly. "My talent... is Pyromancer."

The word alone made everyone pause.

Claire’s eyes widened, Mei gasped, and even Alfie muttered in disbelief. "Pyromancer?!"

Kai’s brows rose.

’A Pyromancer... if that’s real, it could change everything.’

Seeing their reaction, the young man quickly waved his hand and clarified with an apologetic tone. "It’s only Common Grade. I can’t conjure fireballs or anything like that. I can make sparks, small flames... enough to light the night, cook food, or scare animals. That’s all."

The excitement in the room dimmed slightly.

The survivors had imagined a warrior who could burn through the A.I. Army with blazing fire. Instead, they had someone who could light campfires.

Kai studied him carefully.

’’Even a Common Grade Pyromancer has potential. If it were Rare, Superior, or Master Grade, it would be devastating. But Common... it’s limited. Still, fire is fire. And fire can grow.’

The others looked disappointed, but Kai’s lips curved into a knowing smile.

"You’re underestimating yourselves. Have you heard about the Talent Upgrade Crystal?"

The six new members of the Codebreakers exchanged confused glances. "Talent... Upgrade Crystal?" Steven asked.

"What’s that?"

Kai smiled as he saw their curious faces...

"It’s a rare item. When used, it can raise the grade of a talent. Common can become Uncommon. Uncommon can become Rare. Rare can become Superior... and so on. The higher the grade, the stronger the talent’s effects. For a Pyromancer, that means sparks could become flames... flames could become fireballs... and eventually, infernos."

The survivors stared at him, stunned. Vera clutched her chest and asked once more.

"You mean... talents can evolve?"

Kai nodded. "Yes. It’s not easy to obtain, but it exists. I’ve already used one."

The Pyromancer’s eyes widened, he was now filled with hope! He had thought that he was already stuck as a human stove forever!

"Thank you for letting me know! I will work hard!"

Just like that, the room was suddenly filled with hope.

Even the children sensed the shift in mood and started eating happily...

However, Mei couldn’t help but nudge Kai...

"Hey... I know you mentioned that before. But how did you get that Talent Upgrade Crystal?"
