Chapter 103: A Test of Strength
Wolfman dropped the metal dish he was holding and stepped towards Dr. Sally in shock, eyes widened.
Roy straightened his back for whatever reason, but Sunfire and Master Abraham remained focused on the meals before them, not surprised at all by this unexpected development. Dr. Gretsch, however, had the corner of his lips curl upward.
"SALLY!" Wolfman called out, and the lady in question wore an embarrassed look.
"I am fine now. Miss Sunfire healed me," she said. "As of right now, I am quite hungry..."
"COME. SIT. SIT!" Wolfman directed her to sit adjacent to Sunfire, beside Dr. Gretsch, and directly opposite Roy. This was the first seat on the left side of the table.
"Don’t force me," she said in a whisper to Wolfman’s grip on her hind arm, and he quickly apologized and let her be.
"SORRY."
Roy was curious about this unfolding of events, so he voiced out after she sat, "This is great, but Miss Sunfire, what about what you said about only using one Tear of Aria for this group? And also, what about Dr. Gretsch’s research?"
Sunfire bit down on her fork and spoke with food in her mouth, but measuredly.
"Didn’t you hear when Black Zero said no one’s going to get infected again?" she asked back with a grin. "And also, I might’ve burned this bunker down if I were around only men for two weeks."
Dr. Gretsch added, "Oh, and for the undeadening fever, I’ve given up on trying to find a cure for now. I saw how you looked at me when I proposed that idea. And thought it over."
Roy pointed at himself. "What? Me?"
Dr. Gretsch chuckled. "Yes. Sometimes, things seem logical and wise to do in this broken world, but we need to think about the future and the path we’re paving for the young ones like you. I don’t think I would like you to believe it’s okay to leave someone in pain and suffering when there’s an obvious cure for an uncertain research."
Roy was so surprised to hear this from Dr. Gretsch that he had no response and just mouthed, "Yeah..."
Wolfman nodded in agreement and even tapped Dr. Gretsch’s shoulder.
Since Roy knew Dr. Gretsch and Wolfman just over thirty-six hours ago, he noticed the executioner hated the doctor’s guts, even more so when he found out Embolden died because of the man’s corporate dishonesty of their purpose in this dead city. Hence, Wolfman agreeing with Dr. Gretsch... this was a first.
But of course, the D-Class Executioner should still be hiding his displeasure about Embolden’s death.
"Thank you," Dr. Sally said to him, and he just smiled and skillfully changed the topic by commenting, "Wolfman, your cooking is phenomenal. I didn’t expect it to be this good."
Wolfman opened his mouth wide and laughed.
"AHAHAHA! I AM WOLFMAN!"
"Why do you say that, even?" Roy asked, genuinely amused. "We know you are Wolfman."
"BECAUSE I AM WOLFMAN," he repeated with a wide grin.
Dr. Sally chimed in, chuckling, "I asked him the same thing. And he asked me..."
Before Dr. Sally could finish, Wolfman sat down beside Dr. Gretsch and pointed his fork at Roy.
"WHO ARE YOU?"
"Uh, Roy Mclloyd?" Roy answered the only way he could.
"ARE YOU STRONG?" Wolfman asked.
"I think so."
Wolfman grinned. "BUT I AM STRONGER. SO, I AM WOLFMAN, BOY MCLLOYD!"
Roy frowned. "Not boy. Roy."
"BOY!"
"Tch." Pissed, Roy just faced his meal. There was no point in going back and forth.
Sunfire scanned everyone at the table, grinning suspiciously before asking, "Then is Wolfman stronger than Black Zero?"
Wolfman’s ears perked up like a wild dog’s, and he answered sharply, "OF COURSE! I AM WOLFMAN!"
Black Zero merely scoffed and got up from his seat with an empty plate, having already finished his meal.
"Where are you going? You’re not going to say anything?" Sunfire asked.
Abraham didn’t bother looking at her and just retorted, "Find your entertainment somewhere else."
Bang!
Wolfman pounded his elbow on the table, his hand spread wide, and said to Master Abraham, "A TEST OF STRENGTH! HONOR ME!"
Black Zero paid no attention, put his dish in the sink, and headed outside, passively commenting, "Roy, wash all the empty dishes after everyone else is done."
Here, Roy’s ears too perked up. "WHAT?! No way! That’s not part of any training."
"Who said it is?" Black Zero spoke casually.
"Hell no! I’m not washing any dishes," Roy spoke with an extremely sour look. He already hated that this bunker didn’t have more modern robots that handled menial tasks like these.
"Wolfman, will you defend Boy Mclloyd’s honor?" Sunfire said to the brutish man with a fake serious face, fanning the flame of the conflict that was about to erupt.
"What?" Roy couldn’t believe she just called him ’boy’ too.
Wolfman felt called to defend the weak and palmed the table as he abruptly stood up. "BLACK ZERO. WOLFMAN IS THE DEFENDER OF THE WEAK AND HELPLESS..."
"I’m not weak and helpless!"
"...WOLFMAN PROTECTS BOY MCLLOYD. FIGHT ME!" He said, pointing his muscled finger at Abraham, who looked upon the bickering with nonchalance.
"No, not a fight. Just an arm wrestle," Sunfire quickly corrected, and Wolfman nodded.
"YES! BOY SHALL NOT WASH DISHES UNTIL YOU PROVE YOURSELF FORMIDABLE!"
Dr. Sally and Gretsch were already covering their ears because of how loud Wolfman’s voice was.
"Roy, are you part of this charade?" Master Abraham simply asked.
Roy glanced at Sunfire, who winked at him, and then he nodded fiercely to his Master Abraham’s question.
"Fine." The C-Class Executioner stepped back in and sat opposite Wolfman. Placing his elbow on the table, he said, "Let’s make this quick."
"YOU ARE BLACK ZERO," Wolfman nodded respectfully, and the two men clasped their hands together.
Sunfire held in her laughter and took out her mobile device. "I have to get this."
Bam!
In the next second, before anyone could even say "Go," the slam caved in that area of the table, and Mastar Abraham stood up immediately, while Wolfman stared at his hand in shock.
"I’m done here. Roy, you know what to do," he said, but Roy hadn’t even finished processing what had just transpired. No one had.
Dr. Gretsch asked Sally, "Did you see anything?"
And she merely shook her head.
"W-Wait! That’s not fair. No one said you should start," Roy complained and faced Sunfire, "Right?"
"He’s right. I was going to tell you when to begin." Sunfire nodded, folding her arms. Though she didn’t seem too surprised with the outcome.
"Wolfman, do you agree with them?" Master Abraham asked the man directly, a dark shadow hovering over the latter’s eyes.
"I do not. Speed is virtue," Wolfman replied like a normal person. "BUT AGAIN! HONOR ME AGAIN!"
Black Zero considered him and sat back down.
Bam!
But once again, the result was the same.
Tears flowed from Roy’s eyes, and he cried out, "Wolfman, you suck!"
"A-Ahem..." Wolfman cleared his throat in response.
"Lady Sunfire, won’t you try for me too?" Roy pleaded, but she shrugged and shook her head.
"I burn things and have a thick skin, but I’m not as strong as Wolfman, even."
Hence, the outcome was settled. Black Zero just smirked and left, whereas Wolfman shamelessly dropped his empty dish in the sink for Roy to wash.
Roy spent the next hour murmuring and washing dishes. "Tsk. So much for the protector of the helpless and weak... He sucks ass..."
Later that night, Pierre signed in again, and so did Roy.
