Chapter 274: Flame Demon Warlock
A Town Recall Scroll is worth thousands of Gold Coins.
The one Balaha had was bought by his family to save his life.
So when he took it out without a moment’s hesitation, everyone was stunned.
Li Wei took the Town Recall Scroll from Balaha and said, "I haven’t used my Teleportation Token. I’ll take the Town Recall Scroll to Teacher Sean."
"You all split up. Go find the Elders and have the Elemental Tower send a rescue party."
"Can you go alone?" Balaha asked, concerned.
"No one here is more suited for the job than me," Li Wei said.
With that, he took out his Teleportation Token.
Even though Li Wei wasn’t part of the mission, he had still been issued his Teleportation Token.
Using the Teleportation Token would activate the Elemental Tower’s grand Teleportation Array and send him to the Red Second Level region.
That was where Sean was.
The others watched as Li Wei vanished in a silver flash of teleportation light.
The rest of them rushed into the Elemental Tower, each using their own methods to contact someone for help.
RUMBLE! WHOOSH!
The sound of fiery explosions was unending.
Countless Undead were incinerated, turning to ash.
Sean stood tall in midair, his body wreathed in flames, his eyes blazing red.
The surrounding Undead, heedless of their own destruction, charged into the inferno, using their bodies to smother the flames.
Even though Sean possessed Power comparable to a Tier Five Mage, he was being pushed into a corner by the sheer, unending numbers of the weaker Undead. They were using a war of attrition to overwhelm him.
More than half of his Power was already gone.
And it had all been spent dealing with these fragile, weak Skeleton Monsters.
Powerful Death Knights, Abominations, Bronze Skulls, and Silver Skulls occasionally launched attacks as well.
It was impossible to defend against them all.
If not for the fact that Sean’s Magic spells were all Talent Abilities that required no Casting time, he would have fallen long ago to the relentless barrage of attacks.
Sean gazed at the Bone Demon in the distance and sighed.
’Looks like I’m going to die here today.’
There was no escape.
Unless reinforcements from the Elemental Tower arrived, death was only a matter of time.
The Bone Demon was a Tier Six Undead Monster, and the two bone wings on its back gave it the ability to fly.
Sean didn’t know Space Magic, and his own flying speed wasn’t fast.
He had no way to escape the Bone Demon’s pursuit.
The Bone Demon held back from attacking Sean directly, instead commanding the Undead to besiege him from afar.
It was trying to wear down Sean’s Power.
Otherwise, as a Tier Five Bloodline Mage, Sean was still capable of taking the Bone Demon down with him.
The Bone Demon was waiting for an opportunity, and so was Sean.
The Bone Demon was waiting for Sean’s Power to run out.
Sean was waiting for the Bone Demon to draw near so he could inflict a heavy blow and create an opportunity to escape.
If he could just destroy the Bone Demon’s wings, it wouldn’t be able to catch him.
Since the other Undead Creatures couldn’t fly, Sean would be able to get away.
Trapped in this predicament, Sean felt a pang of regret for giving his Teleportation Token to someone else.
But if he had to choose again, he knew he would make the same decision.
Sean didn’t know why.
’I carry this sinful bloodline, yet I insist on being a good person.’
’Is it out of guilt for my own bloodline?’
’Does it make me constantly seek redemption?’
The flames around Sean grew weaker, and more and more Undead swarmed toward him.
With a beat of its wings, the Bone Demon closed in on the battlefield.
Sean’s Power was fading fast, to the point where he couldn’t even fend off an ordinary Skeleton Monster.
Bony claws struck his Mage Robe, which flared with light as it blocked the attack.
The Soul Flame in the Bone Demon’s empty eye sockets flared, and a Bone Spear grew from the palm of its left hand.
WHOOSH!
The Bone Demon hurled the Bone Spear at Sean.
SHLICK!
The Bone Spear tore through the Mage Robe and pierced Sean’s body.
Sean collapsed, blood pouring from the wound.
The scent of blood sent the surrounding Skeleton Monsters into a frenzy, their attacks quickening.
Just as Sean was about to be torn apart and devoured, the Bone Demon let out a roar, and all the surrounding Skeleton Monsters halted and backed away.
The Bone Demon charged toward Sean, a greedy light in its eyes.
As it neared Sean, the Bone Demon was suddenly struck by a heart-stopping fear, a premonition of death.
Flames erupted from Sean’s eyes, and two curved, black-and-red horns sprouted from his forehead.
His skin cracked and split, revealing black-and-red musculature beneath.
In an instant, Sean had transformed into the spitting image of a Demon.
This was his bloodline—the blood of a Flame Demon.
A bloodline from the Abyss.
A sinful bloodline.
Terror filled the Bone Demon’s expression. It hastily beat its wings, trying to retreat.
"Flame Whip!"
A long whip of condensed fire formed in Sean’s hand.
With a flick of his wrist, the Flame Whip coiled around the Bone Demon, yanking the fleeing monster back toward him.
The Flame Whip seared the Bone Demon’s body with a loud SIZZLE and CRACKLE.
The Bone Demon’s pristine white bones were scorched black. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Seeing no escape, the Bone Demon turned and lunged at Sean.
Its ten fingers sharpened into long, slender blades and stabbed toward Sean.
Sean ignored the attack. He tightened his grip on the Flame Whip and gave it a vicious tug.
The Flame Whip exploded with astonishing Power.
The demonic flames burned through the Bone Demon’s body, and the Flame Whip constricted until the monster burst into several pieces.
A smile spread across Sean’s face.
With the skin on his face split open to reveal the black-and-red muscles beneath, the smile was utterly terrifying.
And yet, Sean’s smile was one of genuine joy.
Because he had figured it out.
In that moment, when he was on the brink of death, he’d had a moment of clarity.
It wasn’t that he wanted to be a good person in order to atone.
He was a good person, simply because he was.
The Flame Demon bloodline was a sinful one.
But that was just the world’s opinion.
The kind of person he was shouldn’t be defined by his bloodline, nor by the judgment of others.
He was who he was.
After killing the Bone Demon, Sean’s Power was completely spent.
The Flame Whip died out, and his Demonization gradually faded.
That single, explosive attack had consumed all his remaining Power.
Sean stood his ground, watching the Skeleton Monsters close in around him as he looked up at the sky.
"Dying like this wouldn’t be so bad."
"It’s just a shame I won’t be able to see you again... Father, Mother."
Sean’s father was human, and his mother was a Purgatory Flame Demon.
He used to hate his parents, hating them for the misfortune and the sinful bloodline they had given him.
Now, he understood. He didn’t hate them anymore.
He even missed them a little.
WHOOSH!
Suddenly, Sean saw a shower of fire rain from the sky.
Looking closer, he saw the fiery rain was actually a volley of countless small Fireballs.
The small Fireballs landed among the horde of Skeleton Monsters around Sean, setting off violent explosions.
In the blink of an eye, a huge swathe of Skeleton Monsters was cleared out.
Hope surged in Sean’s heart, and he squeezed out the last dregs of his Power.
BOOM!
A Flame Shock swept through the dozen or so Skeleton Monsters around him.
There wasn’t a single Skeleton Monster left standing near Sean.
A figure slowly descended from the sky.
When he got a clear look at the person descending, Sean froze in place.
"Li Wei!"
Sean never would have imagined that Li Wei would be the one to come and save him.
Li Wei handed the Town Recall Scroll to Sean.
"You go back first. I’ll cover you."
Holding the Town Recall Scroll, Sean looked at Li Wei and asked, "And you?"
Li Wei held up his Teleportation Token.
"I have a Teleportation Token."
Seeing this, Sean immediately tore the Town Recall Scroll.
Using the Town Recall Scroll required time to activate.
He couldn’t move during that time and could only rely on Li Wei for protection.
Li Wei glanced at the Flame Demon Horns on Sean’s head, which hadn’t yet retracted.
He asked, a little curious, "Teacher Sean, what exactly is your bloodline?"
Sean had already come to terms with it and no longer tried to hide it.
He smiled and said, "The bloodline of a Purgatory Flame Demon."
