Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard
Chapter 714 - 673: The Anti-Death Eater Front
To be honest, this room isn’t very big, with only a set of table and chairs, and a bookshelf reaching up to the ceiling.
But compared to most of the broom closet-sized offices in the Ministry of Magic, crammed with two or three people, this one is already considered top-notch.
For example, Mr. Weasley’s Department of Prohibition of Misuse of Muggle Items; he had been there once before, an office as big as a broom closet, yet filled to the brim with two desks. The contents of the cabinets were overflowing, and extra documents had to be placed wherever visible, making it hard to find a spot to step on.
Kael never quite understood why the people at the Ministry of Magic didn’t use the Undetectable Extension Charm to make their offices a bit more spacious.
He had also asked Mr. Weasley, but didn’t get an answer; Mr. Weasley just said it was fine as it was and he was already used to it, so there was no need to do anything extra.
Upon entering the office, Fudge took off his hat and asked, "What do you think of this place?"
"It’s quite nice," Kael said. "Does this mean I’m officially employed now? Does the Minister have any tasks for me?"
"Not exactly tasks." Fudge fiddled with his hat, "You’re only in your sixth year, and continuing your studies should be your priority."
Kael naturally didn’t believe these words; Fudge couldn’t have brought Umbridge here without a reason, there clearly was something to discuss.
Moreover, he was receiving 150 Galleons a month, and such a salary couldn’t be for nothing—Fudge wasn’t that generous.
This could also be seen from Cedric’s meager seven Galleons.
So Kael remained silent, quietly waiting for Fudge to continue.
Sure enough, a moment later, Fudge asked seemingly casually, "I heard from Albus that during the last task of the Triwizard Tournament, you saved Harry Potter?"
"That’s right." Kael didn’t hide it and said, "A Death Eater used Polyjuice Potion to sneak into the castle and took the opportunity to kidnap Harry."
"How did you find out?" Fudge asked, "I remember you were participating in the third task at the time."
"Because of the Triwizard Cup..." Kael said, "It had been turned into a Portkey, and when I grabbed it, I was automatically transported to where Harry was."
"Oh, I remember now." Fudge realized, "I remember after you took the Cup, you suddenly disappeared. To tell you the truth, I always thought that was part of another task."
"It wasn’t. I was sent to the top of a mountain..."
"So, you also saw You-Know-Who’s resurrection?" Fudge’s eyes flickered, staring unblinkingly at Kael.
"I didn’t see the process of You-Know-Who’s resurrection." Kael’s expression remained unchanged, calmly saying, "But there were indeed Death Eaters plotting something there, and Dumbledore arrived quickly to send Harry and me back to Hogwarts.
"Regarding what happened afterward, only Dumbledore would know."
Fudge said nothing, just watched Kael while fiddling with his hat.
He didn’t feel Kael was lying; after all, everything matched up... Kael disappeared after taking the Cup, and then Dumbledore also went missing.
And most importantly, if Kael had seen You-Know-Who, he wouldn’t side with the Ministry of Magic when Dumbledore publicly announced the resurrection.
Fudge’s expression was somewhat complicated, faintly showing signs of disappointment.
A month ago, the last thing he wanted to hear was news of You-Know-Who’s revival, but now, he hoped it was true.
Yet Fudge himself wasn’t sure if You-Know-Who really resurrected; the reason he released that report was because Dumbledore forced him into a corner.
Ten Death Eaters escaped from Azkaban simultaneously; using this point, Dumbledore could easily remove him from the Minister’s position.
Even though he kept his position for now, things weren’t easy. Since the breakout, lots of letters were being sent to the Minister’s office every day, not least among them were Howlers asking him to step down.
Previously, these Howlers were sent to Dumbledore.
It appeared that everyone believed this was a scheme he concocted... to stay in the Minister of Magic position.
As time went on, the voices grew louder, even within the Ministry of Magic.
There were ways to resolve this issue, the simplest being for You-Know-Who to show up in public once.
As long as You-Know-Who appeared, everything would naturally be clear.
But that wasn’t something Fudge could control, and subconsciously, he didn’t want to see that happen either. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
So all he could do now was find more people, especially those with fame, to substantiate it.
He had mentioned this to Dumbledore when he went to Hogwarts, but so much time had passed without any progress.
Clearly, Dumbledore didn’t want to help with that.
"Kael..." Fudge suddenly asked, "Do you believe that You-Know-Who has really returned?"
"Of course." Kael said, "After all, the papers all say that he rescued ten Death Eaters. If it wasn’t You-Know-Who, who would bother to save those people?"
"But many people still don’t believe it." Fudge said in a deep voice. "This mindset is dangerous. The reason I risked being ousted to announce this to everyone is to make sure people are well-prepared to face the impending war.
"But now many people insist that it’s for my own personal gain. If this continues, our efforts will be in vain."
