I Can Level Up Infinitely
Chapter 59: Ability Assessment
Leon and Jenny walked into the Hunter Association. But the moment they stepped through the main entrance, a female voice suddenly called out from the side.
"Jenny?! Is that you?"
The moment Jenny turned and saw who it was, her expression darkened instantly. ’Why did it have to be her of all people...?’
"Who is that?" Leon asked after noticing the sudden change in her mood.
"She’s my classmate, Wendy," Jenny replied quietly.
Wendy was standing together with a group of people. Jenny quickly recognized most of them as her classmates.
Except for one.
A young man stood among them who looked to be in his early twenties. He had a sharp jawline, golden hair, and a tall, well-built physique that stretched tightly against his fitted clothes. Aside from the arrogance clearly etched across his face, he looked almost flawless.
Wendy strode toward Jenny with a mocking smile.
"What are you doing here, Jenny? Looking for a job as a cleaner?" she sneered. "But I don’t remember the Hunter Association hiring people for that."
Leon’s brows furrowed slightly at her words, but he remained silent. For now.
Jenny, however, looked visibly furious, her teeth grinding together.
"Shut your mouth, bitch," she snapped coldly. "Or this entire place is going to stink from the filth coming out of it."
Leon couldn’t help but flinch slightly at Jenny’s razor-sharp tongue. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Meanwhile, Wendy was practically trembling with rage, her hands shaking faintly as anger filled her face. She looked ready to explode, but then her eyes suddenly landed on Leon.
She blinked in surprise.
"Ehh? Who’s this handsome guy you’re hanging around with?" Wendy asked, narrowing her eyes suspiciously. "Don’t tell me you brainwashed him and are trying to mooch off him."
Jenny let out a cold laugh.
"You should replace your mouth with a trash can. At least a trash can occasionally holds something useful. But your mouth?" She smirked mockingly. "Nah. It’s amazingly consistent at producing nothing but garbage."
Then she wrapped an arm around Leon’s shoulder.
"He’s my brother."
"Brother?" Wendy froze for a moment. "Your brother? The one who is a piece of trash with zero talent and no awakened ability?"
Jenny’s eyes turned colder instantly. "Who are you calling trash, you bitch?"
Jenny lunged forward, clearly ready to grab Wendy by the hair and yank it out. But before she could do anything, Leon wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her back.
"Calm down," Leon said quietly before looking at Wendy’s group.
"I don’t see how the reason we’re here concerns any of you. You may be Jenny’s classmates, but she’s clearly not interested in talking right now. So we’ll be leaving."
His voice was firm and left no room for argument.
Without even waiting for their reaction, Leon turned around and guided Jenny toward the reception desk.
"You...!" Veins bulged on Wendy’s forehead as she failed to vent her anger properly. She immediately strode after them, the others following behind her.
"Wendy, calm down," one of the girls beside her said helplessly. "Why are you always so obsessed with picking fights with her? She hasn’t even done anything."
"Shut up. What would you know?" Wendy snapped. "That bitch has been playing hard to get in front of Sean this whole time. If it weren’t for her, Sean and I would’ve already been openly together by now." Her eyes turned colder. "I’m going to teach her a lesson. Whatever she’s here for, I’ll ruin it."
She stormed forward and stopped just behind Jenny.
Meanwhile, Leon was already speaking with the receptionist.
"I’m here for an ability assessment."
"Sure," the male receptionist replied politely at first. But after raising his eyes and properly looking at Leon, his expression turned slightly strange.
"You’re here for an assessment? Not a reevaluation?" he asked in surprise. "You look well over fourteen. How come you still haven’t awakened an ability yet?"
Leon shrugged lightly.
"I just had some bad luck."
"And now you suddenly don’t?" the receptionist asked skeptically.
"I think so," Leon answered calmly.
The receptionist sneered inwardly. ’Seriously, where do these kinds of people keep coming from? Don’t they have any shame? Just two days ago, some guy came claiming he was a B-Class knight. Turns out he was only D-Class, yet he still refused to accept it.’
Still, the receptionist nodded.
"Alright. Come with me."
He led Leon and Jenny toward a large chamber deeper inside the association building.
Wendy and her group followed behind as well. The guard stationed outside the chamber tried to stop them, but Wendy casually stated that she was accompanying her brother for his reevaluation, allowing them to enter.
Inside the chamber, the receptionist walked up to a person in a long white coat seated calmly in a chair.
"The next candidate has arrived."
"Assessment or reevaluation?" the man in white asked without even opening his eyes.
"Assessment."
"Alright," the man replied indifferently. "Explain the procedure to him."
The receptionist walked back toward Leon and pointed at a translucent pillar standing at the center of the chamber.
"You see that pillar?" he said. "Place your hand on it and channel your energy into it."
Leon nodded calmly and walked toward the pillar.
Wendy and her group were standing at the back.
"What are you planning to do?" the young man from earlier, the one who stood out the most among the group and was apparently Wendy’s brother, asked with a slight frown.
Wendy glanced toward the man in white robes. "Didn’t you say you know Mr. Nelson personally? That he’s practically your buddy?"
"Yeah," the young man replied cautiously.
"Then go tell him to fail that bitch’s brother," Wendy said coldly.
Her brother frowned instantly. "Isn’t that too much? And Mr. Nelson probably wouldn’t agree to something like that either."
"I don’t care. You have to do it." Wendy grabbed his arm and looked at him with watery, pleading eyes. "Please."
The young man let out a helpless sigh before finally walking toward Nelson.
Meanwhile, Leon reached the pillar and gently placed his palm against its smooth surface.
One second passed.
Two seconds.
Ten seconds.
Yet nothing happened.
A strange silence slowly spread throughout the chamber. Then suddenly, glowing words appeared on the screen embedded within the pillar.
>Ability: Nil
>Mana Pool: Nil
Before Wendy’s brother could even speak, Nelson announced the result.
"You possess no ability. You may leave."
For a brief moment, the entire room fell silent.
And then...
Wendy and her group burst into loud laughter.
"And here I was getting worked up thinking her brother was at least somewhat impressive," Wendy mocked while wiping tears from the corner of her eyes. "But I guess trashy blood really does run through their entire family."
