Chapter 154: Chapter 154: The Apex Restoration, Mending the Heavens

The battlefield was silent. Ten thousand shattered Astral Constructs drifted aimlessly in the zero-gravity void.

They glittered like frozen blue dust against the backdrop of deep space.

Lucifer stood on the balcony of Zephyria’s central keep. He ignored the floating debris. His void-swirling eyes were locked entirely on the massive chaotic expanse of broken white marble and gold suspended hundreds of miles above them.

The Celestial Stairway. The only physical path into the Silver Citadel.

"It really is a mess up there," Lucifer muttered and leaned his elbows on the cold stone railing.

"The Gods throw a tantrum and expect someone else to clean up the pieces."

Elara stood beside him and let out a quiet breathy laugh. The Twilight Sovereign’s iridescent armor shifted seamlessly.

"They always did have a flair for the dramatic. Smashing the bridge was supposed to be a permanent ’Do Not Disturb’ sign."

"We’re ignoring the sign," Lucifer stated smoothly.

He tapped his comms rune and connected to the Spire of Celestial Convergence directly above the keep.

"Sarah," Lucifer called out. "Are you locked onto the structural grid?"

"I have the blueprint, Lucifer," the Oracle replied. Her voice crackled slightly over the link. It was tight with the sheer overwhelming effort of mapping millions of tons of floating rubble.

"I can see exactly how the Stairway is supposed to align. But... the physical mass is staggering. You are looking at fifty miles of shattered bedrock."

"Just project the grid," Lucifer instructed. "Highlight the anchor points."

"Projecting now," Sarah confirmed.

High above the floating city, the massive violet crystal on the Spire flared. A sweeping translucent beam of pure starlight shot into the darkness.

The beam did not attack anything. It acted as a colossal three-dimensional projector.

The starlight washed over the fifty-mile debris field and illuminated the shattered chunks of marble and gold.

Faint glowing silver lines materialized in the vacuum and drew a massive complex wireframe of the original unbroken Celestial Stairway.

It looked like a ghostly architectural skeleton suspended in space.

Every floating chunk of rock was tagged with a glowing silver coordinate. It was tethered by a thin line of light to its exact original position on the wireframe.

"That’s a lot of puzzle pieces," High Ranger Celeste noted over the comms and her voice echoed from the lower battlements. "You want me to send the Rangers out with ropes and drag them into place?"

"You’d be pulling for a century, Celeste," Lucifer replied dryly.

He did not draw a weapon. He opened his Dimensional Vault.

Lucifer did not pull out a Mythic artifact or a devastating siege bomb. He reached in and pulled out a single glowing piece of standard aether-parchment.

It was a Basic Mending Scroll.

The exact same low-tier ten-copper-coin consumable that novice mages used to fix a cracked teacup or mend a torn tunic.

Elara looked at the glowing piece of paper in his hand, then looked back up at the fifty miles of shattered planetary architecture. She raised an eyebrow.

"Are you going to paper-cut the Heavens back together?" Elara asked and a faint teasing smirk touched her lips.

"I’m going to use the right tool for the job," Lucifer said smoothly.

He did not activate the scroll normally. He held it out in front of him and gripped it tightly with his iron gauntlet.

"System," Lucifer commanded. His voice dropped the casual tone and was instantly replaced by the low echoing rumble of the Void Monarch.

"Target: The Celestial Stairway debris field. Grid alignment locked via Star-Touched Oracle."

[Target Acquired: Shattered Planetary Structure.]

[Warning: Mass exceeds standard Mending parameters by 99.9%. Spell failure imminent.]

"Override," Lucifer ordered coldly.

He raised his right hand. The Gauntlet of the Void King crackled with fierce pitch-black lightning. He did not use the gauntlet to crush space. He used it to anchor his spell to the physical fabric of the dimension.

"Apply the Apex Multiplier to the Mending Scroll," Lucifer roared. "Maximize area of effect. Maximize tensile strength."

[Divine Talent: Apex Multiplier Activated!]

[Applying 10,000x multiplier to Restoration Magic and Spatial Reconnection...]

[Bypassing Safety Protocols.]

Lucifer flooded his entire Level 50 Archmage core directly into the flimsy piece of aether-parchment.

The Basic Mending Scroll did not burn up. It detonated.

A blinding explosive shockwave of pure golden restoration magic erupted from Lucifer’s hand! The light was so intense it completely overwhelmed the pitch-black Void-shield surrounding Zephyria.

It bathed the entire floating city in the brilliant glow of a localized sunrise.

The wave of multiplied healing magic shot upward and raced into the vacuum of space at terrifying speed.

It hit the debris field.

The reaction was instantaneous, violent, and absolutely spectacular.

Millions of tons of shattered white marble, broken golden pillars, and cracked statues stopped drifting aimlessly.

The golden light washed over them and physically latched onto the stone and metal.

The silence of space was broken by a massive deep grinding roar of tectonic realignment.

The chunks of debris did not float gently back into place. They were violently and aggressively yanked across the void.

A chunk of white marble the size of a castle shot through the darkness and slammed flawlessly into the jagged edge of a larger floating island.

The golden magic instantly fused the stone together and erased the crack entirely.

CRASH! BOOM! CLANG!

The sound of fifty miles of rock and gold violently smashing itself back together echoed down to Zephyria.

It looked like an explosion playing in reverse. Massive shattered archways snapped upright.

Golden stairs previously scattered across miles of empty space zipped through the void and locked into perfect ascending alignment.

Broken statues of forgotten deities were brutally pulled back into one piece, and their marble faces smoothed out as the magic erased centuries of damage.

Lucifer stood on the balcony with his right arm trembling under the apocalyptic strain of maintaining a 10,000x multiplied continent-sized healing spell.

The black lightning on his gauntlet flared wildly. It anchored the massive gravitational shifts required to move millions of tons of stone.

"It’s working!" Sarah shouted joyously over the comms and her voice broke through the roaring noise of the shifting rocks. "The grid is filling in.

The structural integrity is flawless."

"Keep the guide lights stead.!" Lucifer gritted his teeth and sweat beaded on his forehead. "I’m almost at the gates."

The violent high-speed reconstruction climbed higher and higher into the void.

The final massive slabs of white marble slammed into place at the very apex of the structure.

The golden light flared one last blinding time, and then snapped out.

The spell ended. The Basic Mending Scroll in Lucifer’s hand dissolved into fine harmless white ash and slipped through his armored fingers.

Lucifer lowered his arm and exhaled a long ragged breath. He leaned heavily against the stone railing with his Void Arcanist core rapidly pulling ambient mana to refill his completely drained reserves.

Elara stared up at the sky with her golden eyes wide in sheer unadulterated awe.

"You fixed it," Elara breathed.

It was no longer a chaotic floating junkyard.

A massive flawless breathtakingly beautiful bridge of pure white marble and shining gold stretched from the edge of Zephyria’s airspace. It arced miles upward into the deep black void.

The Celestial Stairway was completely restored! It looked like a gleaming impossible road built for titans, wide enough to march an army of millions across.

At the very top of the massive stairway, hovering ominously in the dark, sat a colossal shimmering barrier of pure iridescent divine law.

The Pearl Gates of the Silver Citadel.

"The path is clear, Warlord," Isolde’s draconic voice rumbled through the comms.

The Winter Sovereign was hovering near the base of the newly forged bridge with her five thousand Wyrms. "The road to Heaven is open."

Lucifer stood up straight and rolled his exhausted shoulders. The dark smirk returned to his face.

"Good," Lucifer said smoothly. "Tell Thrain to prep the main thrusters. We aren’t walking up those stairs. We are driving the city up them."

"Grand Marshal."

Celeste’s voice suddenly shrieked over the comms rune! The High Ranger was not reporting a successful alignment. Her voice was tight with sudden raw panic.

"Celeste, report," Lucifer snapped with his fatigue vanishing instantly.

"We have a breach!" Celeste yelled. The sound of heavy aether-rifle fire and the screech of rending metal echoed loudly in the background. "It’s not coming from above! It’s coming from behind us."

Lucifer spun around and looked over the opposite side of the balcony. He gazed down at the pitch-black Void-shield protecting the rear of the floating city.

"What do you mean, behind us?" Elara demanded and stepped up to the railing with her spear ignited. "The terrestrial plane is dead. There is nothing below us but ash."

"They didn’t come from the ground." Celeste fired back. "They tore a hole right in our slipstream. The Abyss followed us up!"

Lucifer’s void-swirling eyes narrowed sharply. He activated his Warlord sight and pierced the dark energy of the planetary shield.

He saw it.

Hovering silently in the absolute vacuum of space, directly behind Zephyria’s massive rear thrusters, a violent purple spatial tear had ripped open.

It was not a small portal for a vanguard swarm.

A colossal horrifying structure was slowly pushing its way out of the tear.

It was an Abyssal Dreadnought! It was a massive floating fortress of jagged black obsidian pulsing with sickly green necrotic fire, easily half the size of Zephyria itself. It looked like a flying rotting cathedral.

[System Warning: Massive Hostile Entity Detected!]

[Entity: Abyssal Dreadnought (Level 80 - Siege Class)]

[Commander: Baal, The Void-Devourer (Demon King II)]

[Status: Engaging Zephyria.]

"Baal," Lucifer hissed and his grip tightened on the stone railing.

"Who is Baal?" Elara asked with her eyes locked on the terrifying black fortress emerging from the rift.

"He is the scavenger of the Abyss," Lucifer explained rapidly and his tactical mind raced. "He doesn’t lead front-line invasions.

He waits until the defenses are broken, and then he moves in to eat the remains. He saw us moving up the stratosphere and decided to hitch a ride."

The Abyssal Dreadnought did not fire cannons or magical barrages.

The front of the massive black fortress opened up. Dozens of colossal thick tentacles forged of solid dark-matter muscle and jagged bone hooks shot out into the void

The tentacles slammed directly into the rear of Zephyria’s pitch-black Void-shield!

BOOM!

The entire floating city lurched violently.

The bone hooks dug deep into the magical barrier and physically latched onto the energy field.

The tentacles pulled taut and anchored the massive Abyssal Dreadnought firmly to the back of the human city.

"He is towing us!" Vexia screamed over the comms and her voice was frantic from the Aether-Forge. "The physical drag is immense.

The Void-Core Reactor is spiking! If he pulls any harder, he will rip the shield right off the bedrock!"

"He doesn’t want to rip the shield off," Lucifer stated coldly and drew the Blade of Ruin. The ruby-red light flared against the dark.

"He wants to use Zephyria as a battering ram to smash through the Pearl Gates. He wants to invade Heaven, and he wants us to open the door for him."

The massive tentacles connecting the two flying cities began to bulge. They were not just ropes; they were boarding tubes.

Thick corrosive purple sludge sprayed against the inside of Zephyria’s shield near the lower deployment bays.

"They are breaching the lower tiers!" Celeste roared and the sound of her daggers clashing against chitin echoed clearly. "We have boarders! Heavy infantry! They are pushing for the Aether-Forge!"

"If they touch the reactor, the city falls," Elara said and her golden eyes blazed with fury. She stepped toward the edge of the balcony. "I will drop down and clear the bays."

"No," Lucifer ordered sharply and grabbed her arm.

Elara looked back at him, surprised.

"If we both go down to the basement, Baal will detach from the lower tiers and drop his main forces on the command deck,"

Lucifer explained smoothly with his mind calculating the brutal geometry of a two-front war. "He wants the reactor, but he also wants my head. I have to split the defense."

Lucifer looked at Elara. "Vexia and Celeste hold the lower levels. You and Isolde hold the sky. Keep the Wyrms flying; do not let their aerial swarms land on the upper courtyards."

"And you?" Elara asked with her grip tightening on her spear.

"I am going to have a chat with the captain of that ship," Lucifer said softly and a cold terrifying smile broke across his face.

He did not wait for a response. The Warlord vaulted over the railing and plummeted toward the chaotic bloody battle erupting on the lower tiers of his city.

The Abyss had tried to hijack his ride to heaven. Lucifer was going to make sure they paid for the ticket.
