I Reincarnated as The Protagonist's Best Friend
Chapter 64: Quash Isn’t Stingy
"Holy hell! Let! Me!"
Alan exclaimed as he tried to snatch the letter from Quash’s hand. He pulled it back before he could.
"Let me see you bastard! Do you know that this is the first time in 300 years that someone will be called up to the stage! At least let me open the letter!"
"Not here, in the Inn."
And with that, Quash made a run for it and Alan chased after him.
A few moments later, both of them were in Quash’s room. Alan snatched the letter. Quash didn’t resist this time. Alan opened the letter and started reading.
He didn’t disturb Alan because he was disturbed himself. In the novel, there was only one person who was called up to the stage to receive a reward. The Vampire Princess. She was given a title: Unparalleled One. And the reward for such achievement was that she can take any one item from the Academy City Treasury. Regardless of grades.
She was given that title because no one in the history of Academy City had ever been unchallenged despite being Rank 1 from the get-go.
Truly an Unparalleled feat. Because even if the rank 1 is strong, rank two or someone else challenges. But her fame and strength were like a wall of despair.
But the question was, why was he getting called up as well? What was his achievement?
His win streak? Could be. That’s the only explanation.
Quash pulled out his badge and looked at the numbers shown with a satisfied expression.
[20]
Win Streak: 500
500, a very satisfying number. Not a pair breaker like 501 or blue baller like 499. Just the perfect number.
As Quash was gloating, he noticed Alan staring at him blankly. Quash snatched the letter from Alan’s hand and started reading.
[Dear Quash Ogmore,
We are happy to notify you that you will be awarded with a [Title]. We have taken all your achievements into consideration and reached such a conclusion.
Please be mentally prepared. We wish you a prosperous future.
By,
Academy City Council]
Alan: "..."
Quash: "... Holy shit."
There was a heavy silence between them. Both processing the weight of the letter. Or more precisely, the words of the letter.
Quash had thought he would be called up, given some prize and would be asked to go home (down the stage). But never in his dreams had he thought he would be given a fucking Title!
A Title is more than just for show. In the Academy, a Title is a symbolization of Status. Not only are they respected wherever they go, they also get to enjoy privileges normal students can’t. He heard rumours that the amount of benefits a Title holder with a general ranking of 1001 gets is more than an Untitled rank one.
Mind you, starting from rank 1001, there is no privilege. They only get better monthly ACP (Academy City Points). If an Unprivileged person’s benefits rival rank one’s, one can imagine how awesome holding a title is.
But of course, Quash had no idea of the benefits of a Title. There was no mention in the novel because Alan never got one. And the only one who got a title was the Vampire Princess.
Quash and Alan stayed silent for a long time before both of them decided to drop the matter because it was hurting their brains. But instead, Quash decided to go shopping. Since he doesn’t have any suits for official business.
He decided to buy one for Alan and Elina as well. Because why not? He isn’t stingy. He is a good friend.
And after they got out of the Inn, they proactively forgot to bring Elina with them.
But regardless, they went to one shop, browsed for a few minutes, bought what they needed and came back. They realised that the trip would have taken longer if Elina were to be with them. Just cause she is a girl. And girls like to waste time by browsing. A nightmare fuel for both boys.
After they came back to the Inn, Quash had Alan deliver the dress to Elina. And he made Alan swear on their friendship that he will tell Elina that he was the one who bought the dress and chose it.
Half of it was true because Alan was the one who chose the dress. He just paid. But regardless, who cares as long as they get together. Everything’s fine.
Quash came to his room feeling like the ultimate wingman. But there was nothing he could do. It was physically hurtful to see Alan’s obliviousness.
After that... Quash slept. Yea. He ate before going to sleep though. He woke up in the afternoon.
Took his suit and went to a spa for beauty care. And the place where people dress up others for money. Tailor shop maybe?
He has no idea.
(A/N: Nor do I. ☝🤓)
After getting dressed, Quash looked at himself in the mirror. He wore a full white suit with white shoes. A red flower on his right pocket.
The suit itself was decorated with many ornaments. It cost him around 3 million Geanod. Although Alan was freaking out, Quash still managed to slap him with a suit priced over 1 million. Elina’s dress cost 4 Million Geanod by the way.
He really wasn’t stingy. But his heart tried to tell him otherwise for some reason.
’Is my heart rebelling?’
He couldn’t help but ask himself. But let it go because he was feeling good at the moment. He was living his dream. To flex his money. He couldn’t flex it by buying some super rare stuff because he is poor in the supernatural market.
But in clothes and cosmetics? Bet. He has enough money to be considered super elite among the normal people.
And who is gonna stop him from flexing?
No one.
With that, Quash stepped out of the shop. It was time to go to the Hunig Hall. Commonly known as Ceremony Hall.
Quash had told Alan and Elina to come as a pair. Alan didn’t understand and Quash didn’t elaborate. So, he made his way towards the Hunig Hall along with a sea of people.
