I'll Just Be Overpowered
Chapter 20: Did you know
Both of them looked at Ken like they were looking at some abomination. They eagerly wanted to take him down, but they had seen his speed and how fast he took them down; a brash attack would be the end of them.
’They are being precocious, tch.’ Ken wanted them to charge in carelessly; he wanted them to come and get their ass handed to them.
The two analyzed the situation, and the one with magic created a plan, a plan that was sure to work if they executed it properly. The plan was to use his flames to create a large wall of flame as a distraction, and then the other would act from there.
He stepped forward and thrust his palm forward, his magical formation showing.
"Run!" he yelled as the flames poured from his hands. The second attacker was sharp with it; he charged ahead through the side while the flames rushed at Ken.
’I have to admire their ability to actually make a plan this fast and work together, but something like this would never work, not in a million years.’
He was about to do something, but suddenly, vines ripped out of the ground, creating a wall that blocked the flames, and then another rushed at the attacker that was trying to flank Ken.
"Stay away from him!" A sharp and very angry voice tore through the air. Luna, she had arrived just now and saw Ken getting attacked. She didn’t want Ken to know that she was here, but a part of her kicked in, and she was not able to do anything about it.
The vine wrapped hard around the attacker, and without as much as a second wasted, it snapped the man right in two, her first kill of the day. She had taken down multiple of these people and yet never killed even one, but when it came to defending and protecting Ken, her mental barrier shattered, and killing became okay.
She let go of the body, and her eyes immediately moved to the one that had attacked with magic. When he saw how she had used magic, fear overtook him; she was not someone that he could even hope to fight against. He turned and began running, but her vine was faster. It grabbed him by the feet and lifted him into the air, about to slam him hard into the ground.
"Luna, wait!" Ken yelled, and she paused. She looked at him with questioning eyes, trying to know why he stopped her.
"I need one of them alive and well to question," Ken said in a calm tone, looking the attacker dead in the eye, and that alone made the attacker tremble with fear. He could already imagine the horrors that he was about to face.
Listening to Ken, she let him go, but she ensured she wrapped him in vines.
"Luna, what are you doing here?" Ken rushed to her and asked when the fight was over.
She looked down with sadness, like a child that had been caught doing something they were not meant to. She locked her fingers together, trying to find the words to say.
’She was worried about me enough to risk her identity, tch. I wanted to play dumb and act like I didn’t know what was happening, but in only one month she had grown a strong obsession for me.
The issue is if that’s healthy or not. I can’t lie to myself, I do find her beautiful, and it’s safe to say I could see us together, but I’m too weak for it now. Tch, but pushing shit like this away has never worked out well for anyone.
Sigh, for now, I’ll use the rose method, a small rose every day to show that I’m interested, but never the full bouquet to let her know I’m not ready right now. Cruel? Yes, but she chose to put her interest in me.’
He stretched out his hand and patted her on the head. Her eyes widened in shock; she looked at him, a mix of shock and confusion.
"Thank you for being worried about me; it’s nice to know someone cares that deeply for my safety." He said and then gave her a bright smile.
Her expression shifted, brightening up like a bulb. She threw herself on him, her hands wrapped around him tight with a bright smile on her face.
’The issue here is that the rose alone might be enough for her to think I’m ready, tch.’
After she finally let go, he turned and saw his brother standing there, looking at him. They had not spoken since that day; only his mother came. He normally accompanied her but stopped a few meters away.
"Thank you," his brother said. It had taken Ken some time to realize his name was Aiden, a pretty okay name.
"I was only protecting my family. You should really go check on Mum and sister; I’ll handle the rest," Ken said.
His brother looked like he had a lot to say, but he swallowed it and then stood straight, nodded, and made to run.
"Wait!" Ken called out. His brother turned around and looked at him.
"What?"
"Did you know about what Luca did?" He asked, plain and clear.
Aiden froze, but then he opened his mouth. "I knew Luca hated you. After all, you gained all the attention of Mother and the resources of the home due to your weakness.
He told me he wanted to get rid of you many times. There are times I wanted to tell, but then he would be disowned, and my judgment took control, a sick brother or a healthy one that could help us."
"That’s enough," Ken cut him short. "You saw me as dead weight; that’s fine. At least you didn’t do it, that’s what going for you." Ken said and then walked off with Luna.
"You don’t seem to like your brothers," Luna stated.
"They tried to kill me," he replied. Her eyes instantly went cold; she snapped her head back and looked right at Aiden.
Aiden was so frightened he broke out in sweat instantly.
"Don’t do that, Luna, at least not now," Ken said.
