Chapter 333: Newton’s Dilemma
Elizabeth wasn’t really that much surprised when she heard Michael’s response. After all, at this age, it was kind of expected.
Nowadays, it was quite easy to find even those teenagers that were just 12 or even 10 years old, already in a relationship. While there was a limit to what they could do in the relationship, it was still a relationship nonetheless.
So, it was not that strange to Elizabeth that Michael was already in a relationship, as he was already 18. And considering that Cynthia had passed away over 4 years ago, this was kind of to be expected.
And judging from Michael’s reaction, it was clear that Cynthia had never informed him about anything like this.
"Well, it is a pity. Regardless, if you ever change your mind, you can always come looking for me in the capital. I can arrange for a meeting between the two of you." In the end, Elizabeth could only sigh.
At the same time, she wondered what kind of reaction her daughter would have. After all, she had always been trying to make sure that her daughter did not end up in a relationship with someone else.
Since she was the one who had initiated the promise, she could not suddenly break it. Hence, she had to make sure that her daughter at least met with Michael, before she ended up in a relationship with someone else.
In fact, in the recent years, her daughter had been pushing her, clearly, she already had someone that she liked. But because of the limitation that she had, she could not start a relationship, though she was interested.
It was exactly because of this that Elizabeth decided to come and look for Cynthia, as the two of them had not talked to each other for over 4 years.
Now, it seemed, she could allow her daughter to get in a relationship. At least, Michael already had someone in his heart, so, it would not count as her breaking the promise that she had made with Cynthia.
Despite this thought, she felt kind of regretful. Even though Cynthia was not here, she really wanted them to be family. And Michael, being the only survivor of the nuclear family, it would have been great if he would have been her son-in-law.
Elizabeth herself had three children, the eldest being the daughter, 18 years old, and the other two were both sons, with one of them being 16 and the other one 13 years old.
She really liked that daughter of hers, and if she was given an option, she would not want her to be married by someone that she did not know about.
Obviously, it was impossible to clearly determine what kind of partner she would want to get married to in the future. And the character of that person, maybe she would not like it.
While she had not interacted with Michael for long, she still trusted that Cynthia would not allow her son to have a bad character. While she had already left this world over 4 years ago, it would be kind of difficult to change some of the things that Michael knew while growing up.
As she was still deep in thought, Elizabeth looked at the villa once again, before she asked, "So, coming to Brenton city, was this your mother’s idea, or was it a decision that was made later on because of circumstances?"
Elizabeth of course understood that Drenn city was full of crime. It was a small city, but the criminal activity in that city was very intense.
The police were nothing more than just a decoration, and they could not do anything to eliminate the criminals within the city.
So, at this point, Elizabeth thought that there was a possibility that Cynthia had left together with her husband and son to come to Brenton City, in order to avoid the chaos in Drenn city.
"I moved here a few months ago. We were still living in Drenn city 4 years ago." Michael shrugged as he responded.
This time, Elizabeth was silent for quite an extended duration. Eventually, she asked, "Have you already connected with the Santos family?"
That was the only thought that Elizabeth had at the moment. At least, this was the only explanation as to why Michael was here, and was doing quite well.
When she came to Brenton city, and got the address on where she could supposedly find Cynthia, she got the information about this residential community.
It was obviously a top notch residential community, where not just anybody could afford to stay here.
"No, I haven’t." Michael shook his head as he responded.
Despite the many questions that suddenly arose in her mind, Elizabeth did not ask any of that. Eventually, she just stood up and said, "Okay, I’m leaving. Here, this is my business card. In case you need anything from me, just make the call.
And by the way, if you change your mind about the current partner that you have, you can always try and see if you can get together with my daughter.
But of course, because you currently have someone in your heart, she definitely cannot continue waiting. So, it would be up to luck on if you come looking for her, and she’s still single."
Michael received the business card from Elizabeth, while simply shaking his head at her words. Changing his mind, the probability of that was quite low.
Still, he just smiled, and saw Elizabeth off. After he closed the door, he went back to the living room and sat on the couch, wondering about Elizabeth’s daughter.
From what Elizabeth had said, it seemed that her daughter was kind of waiting for him? Unfortunately, she was bound to be disappointed, because Michael had no interest in someone that he had never met before.
Even if he did not have someone else in his heart at this moment, it would be impossible for him to get together with that girl. That was unless they interacted a few times, and Michael developed an interest in her.
As for who was in his heart, it was pretty clear. Initially, Michael was not sure if he really had feelings for her. But as time went on, as they communicated when there was a chance, he realized, she really was there.
That was exactly why he had asked Onyx to make sure that all the information related to Kate was monitored all the time. In case of any unexpected and unfavorable changes, he should be informed as soon as possible.
...
"Father, what should we do now? Should I send another mutant to go and investigate about this?" Newton, standing in front of his father who was sitting behind the desk in his study, asked in a low voice.
Matthew, Newton’s father did not respond, as he remained silent, while observing Newton. This made Newton feel completely uneasy.
The incident involving what had happened to Bob had made some of his friends and arrangements to be foiled. This had even alerted the old man, who was already planning to retire.
Eventually, for the past few days, the old man had been quite active, especially when it came to the issues related to silent order syndicate.
He was mainly focused on the Blood Reapers syndicate, and the moves that it had made. But apart from knowing that both Nathan and his son Brian had gone to Brenton city, but eventually disappeared, they did not find much information related to this incident regarding Bob.
There was a possibility that the disappearance of both Nathan and Brian was the same situation that Gregory, the mutant that had gone with Bob to look for Michael, had faced.
Truthfully speaking, Newton really hated whoever it was that was involved in the disappearance of Gregory. If it had been someone else who had disappeared, even Bob, it would not have caused such a stir.
And right now, the thing that Newton hoped was that, the old man would not continue investigating this matter. If Michael’s presence was revealed, it would definitely cause some problems.
"Are you going to speak or are you going to continue remaining mute? If you don’t want to speak, I can help you by tearing that tongue out of your mouth." Matthew suddenly spoke in a chilling voice.
Those words left Newton completely dumbfounded and scared. He understood, his father never made empty threats. What he had said, if there was a need to, he would definitely do it.
But the thing that made him feel a chill in his heart was the question by the old man. At this point, his mind began spinning, wondering, could it be possible that the old man had already figured out Michael’s presence?
That was the only thing that Newton could only think, that would make the old man this angry. After all, he had handled most of the things quite well, and in case something had gone wrong, he was definitely not the one to fully blame for whatever might have happened.
Newton was extremely worried, but when he raised his head and looked at the old man, he realized that apart from anger, there did not seem to be any other reaction from the old man.
So, could it be possible that it was something else, or was the old man really talking about Michael? If he really was talking about Michael, could it be said that the old man would not be much affected by Zachary’s death?
To Newton, as long as the old man did not suddenly die due to the heart condition that he had, at least, they could deal with the other consequences slowly.
"So, have you made up your mind or not? Do you want to speak or remain mute?" The old man asked once again, his voice filled with impatience.
