Inner Thoughts Exposed: Reborn General's Farming Daughter Has a System
Chapter 148: Found
After seeing Xiao Jingran and Zhou Wenzhi’s group in the distance, Shen Yaojin excused herself.
"Yuxi, since your people have come, I will be going now." Shen Yaojin got up and dusted herself off, taking one firewood and put it on the fire.
The fire latched on to the firewood, burning it slowly. Shen Yaojin was using it like a torch.
"Sister Yaojin!" Xiao Yuxi hurriedly chased after her, grabbing her hand. "Where do you live? I want to repay you for your help!"
Shen Yaojin merely shook her head, not replying. Xiao Yuxi pursed her lips, disappointed. "Will we meet again?"
Judging from the way Shen Yaojin had expertly lit the fire by rubbing some dry firewood together, she concluded that the older girl had frequented this place.
She had the skills of surviving in the forest area.
"I don’t know." Shen Yaojin shook her head. She couldn’t resist reaching out for Xiao Yuxi’s hair, which was all messy but still felt soft to touch.
She was a few years younger, but she reminded her a lot of her brother.
"Uh... " Xiao Yuxi didn’t know what to say anymore. She could only sigh and told Shen Yaojin, "Alright... you have to be careful on the way home, Sister Yaojin. If you see the mother bear again, run away!"
Shen Yaojin nodded, and she turned around, walking away in unhurried footsteps. Yet, it took Xiao Yuxi a few blinks of her eyes until Shen Yaojin’s figure became small and completely disappeared.
She also turned to the fireplace, sitting beside it in a loss. Xiao Jingran and Zhou Wenzhi’s group had become closer.
"Second Brother, are you alright?" Xiao Yuxi called out worriedly. "Eldest Brother and Grandfather are on their way here. Xiao Xue has told me about it..."
The System would nod whenever she said something correctly.
She waited for a while, but received no response back. "Second Brother? Second Brother, answer me!"
Panic began to grip her heart, and she stood up, shouting, "Eldest Brother, Grandfather! Come quickly, something is wrong with Second Brother!"
Fortunately, they were already less than one hundred meters close, and the moment Xiao Jingran heard Xiao Yuxi’s shout, he immediately jumped, taking a few huge leaps until he arrived beside her in an instant.
"There!" Xiao Yuxi pointed to the hole in the ground. "Second Brother is inside. We just needed to pull the rope!"
Xiao Jingran peered into the dark hole; he could see nothing inside, but he could still feel Xiao Fenghao’s breathing. Then, they heard a pained groan.
"Hurry up and pull him, Eldest Brother!" Xiao Yuxi dragged Xiao Jingran to the direction of the rope.
She stood behind him, gripping the rope tightly as she explained. "Second Brother has his waist tied to the rope already. We just need to pull it."
Not long after, Zhou Wenzhi, Village Head Su, and a few remaining villagers hurried footsteps sounded. Although they didn’t know what these siblings were doing, they had their own guesses.
Some men and Zhou Wenzhi immediately took their position. A few stayed on the edge of the hole, and the rest helped the siblings to pull the rope.
"Let me do it, Xi’er. Just rest," Zhou Wenzhi told her.
Xiao Yuxi nodded. She bit her lip and finally let go of the rope, watching from the side anxiously. She ran toward the edge of the hole, staring at the darkness inside unblinkingly.
Not long after, a barely conscious figure emerged from the hole, and the men immediately grabbed Xiao Fenghao, pulling him out to the ground.
"Second Brother!" Xiao Yuxi ran to Xiao Fenghao’s side, putting her hand on his forehead to feel his temperature. Then, she hissed.
"Eldest Brother, he is burning hot," she muttered at Xiao Jingran who was taking large steps toward them. "Second Brother was talking to me normally before. Something must have happened down there!"
She quickly figured out that Xiao Fenghao was probably hiding his situation so that she wouldn’t worry about him.
Xiao Jingran crouched down, and Steward Xu was quick-witted enough to bring the oil lamp closer, illuminating Xiao Fenghao’s figure.
They flipped Xiao Fenghao around, pulling his clothes despite the increasingly cold temperature. Xiao Jingran pulled something, and then tossed it to the ground, his foot smashing on the insect.
"There are some centipedes and scorpions..." he pursed his lips.
"Untie his rope," Zhou Wenzhi told the men around them. They all carefully tried to find any remaining insects that were hiding in Xiao Fenghao’s clothes.
Xiao Jingran busied himself with the medicine, concocting the basic treatment with the medicine he had brought. Some parts where Xiao Fenghao had gotten stung were already turning purple.
Patiently, Xiao Jingran began to apply the medicinal paste on his skin. It would help to alleviate the pain and slowly neutralize the venom.
"Grandfather, let’s bring Hao’er to the area near the fireplace." Xiao Jingran muttered after he was done.
He merely administered the first treatment and still needed to continue. However, his medicinal herbs were currently lacking and missing a few important components. He would need to search them in the forest.
Xiao Fenghao’s feet was already turning cold because of the night wind. The men nodded when they heard Xiao Jingran’s words, and they began to lift the teenager onto the spot near the fireplace.
They were already prepared to camp in the back mountain, so they also already brought the necessities.
Xiao Jingran left to find some medicinal herbs after that.
"Grandfather, water," Xiao Yuxi requested.
She took the water pouch from her grandfather and tore her own clothes. After she wet the cloth, she put it on Xiao Fenghao’s forehead, hoping to reduce his hot temperature.
On the other side, Zhou Wenzhi pursed his lips at Xiao Yuxi’s action, but he didn’t comment on it. Instead, he reflected on himself. "Xi’er, if you need more cloths, just ask me."
In such a cold night, how could he let his granddaughter suffer?
Xiao Yuxi took care of Xiao Fenghao for a while until Xiao Jingran returned.
"Xi’er, how are you feeling?" Xiao Jingran asked his younger sister gently as he tended to Xiao Fenghao.
